Now that 2016 is coming to an end, a tip of the cap to the obvious and no argument winners of the local sports team of the year, the Pens. What a friggin joy is to watch them. Obviously talented, but the way they play.

It has been a few years, but even after winning the Cup last year, the Pens seem like a team still reaching its heights. This is the team we all hoped for with Sid and Geno. Both players have rightfully regained their positions as top 5 players in the sport. Sid is the undisputed, inarguable best player in the world. Geno is also right there, I can easily say he is the second best player in the world. Add Kessel, Hagelin, Bonino, etc.....the underrated D corps of Letang, Dumolin, Daley and the emergence of Justin Schultz along with the depth and talent in the net. Wow.

How fun this is. Every Pens game is must see TV. Who knows how this season will play out. Right now the Metro conference in the NHL just very well might be the single strongest division in any sport history, with 5 of the top 7 spots in the latest ESPN power rankings coming from this conference, but it is a fun ride.

This team reminds me of the Pens circa 92-93. Every game, any game, they aren't out of it. Their firepower is unequalled. And their their best players are playing the best hockey of their careers. Enjoy it folks. It doesn't happen always like this though we are spoiled. We see how fleeting a quick hit to the head or shot can change things.

But as a hockey fan., especially of the local franchise, right now it is Nirvana.

You forgot Hornqvist. Trading him for James Neal seemed like a loss at the time, but IMO his grit sets a tone and gave the Pens the edge they were lacking up front.

Not only are they fun to watch, but it's also enjoyable to follow them off the ice. They have such great personalities and it seems like they all like being around each other. They are also always going good things in the community; they really are the perfect representatives/ambassadors of the city to the rest of the country.

And now what tops it off is the Pittsburgh Gold full-time :)
