OT: Tomlin starts fast but fades.

The windows likely closed. They’ve been passed up by other franchises, the first of which is Indy who will dominate for several years to come. The Steelers have nothing to build around on defense and an aging OL on offense. Time to clean house. Starting with AB, the toxic QB, the enabler Tomlin and the incompetent Colbert.

I know that sounds harsh but nothing they’ve done in a decade gives me confidence that they can build something out of this.

btw...that’s my first fire tomlin post ever. Not because I think he’s the sole reason for this team’s failures, but because it’s now apparent this this team is in a rebuild mode and he’s not a builder. He needs to go coach a talented underachieving team and see if he can get them over the finish line. This job now requires other skill sets and other decision makers.

This post is gold.

Latest mock no longer shows the Steelers taking a LB or CB.

Now.....its a WR from Ole Miss

Just further evidence that the fallout from AB will result in a rebuild sooner than later.

Which leads back to Tomlin.....is he the coach to build a championship caliber team? Or, is there someone better out there?

Furthermore ,

Without AB, the margin for error (assuming they are in the playoff hunt) becomes decidedly more narrow.

And....with Tomlin famous for 1 if not more WTF losses a year, steeler fans should have a pretty good idea of what next year will look like.

Outside looking in again.

He wont get canned, but it probably is time to go.

Frustrating about AB. Best case scenario, we trade him for a first rounder where we get rid of a top nfl WR and draft a mid first rd WR, where hopefully he can be 1/2 as productive as AB.

That’s best case.

I just don’t think it matters. I’d love for them to make one more run at it next year, but they had the best RB and WR in the game and couldn’t win a playoff game, what makes any of us think they have a run in them when other teams have gotten better? Wait til this Colts teams spends that 100 million that they have under the cap. This steeler team has no shot.

No that's CRAZY, "The Toxic QB" IS the team, without him they suck for years to come. I'd keep AB, talk him into staying, Tomlin will stay because of the MORONIC Steeler Way. But to me Ben stays as long as he wants, HE IS THE TEAM, when he goes 7-9 will be fantastic, 5-11 the norm. I'd talk to AB and make him play out his contract, of course, Ben who is the main reason for all success in this century, basically top 3 or 4 in the NFL behind the Patriots, if he hadn't been drafted, they'd still be selling "One For The Thumb" t shirts, anyone in a hurry to let him go and SUCK INSTANTLY is an idiot. He's the 2nd most important Steeler in history. He's to the 2nd Super Bowl Era, what Mean Joe was to the 1st, the catalyst who without, they'd have won NOTHING.

Fathead... locker room cancer

I’m just going to pretend that your post didn’t contain an insult.

But by all means, if they think they can plug some holes and contend for another year, then keep the toxic QB and make a run at it. You never know what can happen. But let’s not ignore the rest of the league and what they’re doing. Watch what Indy does this offseason. The Steelers are more likely a good bit away from competing for a title and keeping Ben for a few more years is more likely a bandaid that will just retard the rebuild. And it’s a bandaid that isn’t real popular in that locker room.

It's way more possible with him than without him, it's ridiculous to think otherwise.
It’s ridiculous that you think people are saying that they can. Nobody said get rid of Ben and win a championship.

CHAMPION, HALL OF FAMER, SECOND MOST IMPORTANT STEELER EVER.
Underachieving egotist who hasn’t won anything since the Steelers beat a crappy Arizona team back in the dark ages. Yinzer legend for sure.

I’ll ask again. When you look around the AFC, which you probably haven’t done, do you think the Steelers can get through it and then face the best that the NFC has to offer?

Can he win them a championship in the next three years?
What a joke... without one of the best defenses in the league to counter his dumb TOs and a first class running game he’s never been able to win squat.... unless you are into regular season wins and beating up in the Brownues and Bengals

Once the old leaders left the team or retired and Since Ben became the locker room leader, the team has underachieved.

Yes, absolutely, I think this years team could of done it, with a decent kicker and normal game day coaching. It's not out of the question. You do realize that they where probably 3 or 4 made routine FGs from being 12-4 this year? Not even factoring in some GAME LOSING bad calls vs. SD and NO that where horrific.

The great Cowher defenses never won crap, he carried the team in XL and XLIII seasons. Even in XL, he wasn't great statistically, but he lifted them up and carried them on his back with his passing game vs. the #1, 2 and 3 seeds to get there, he even made the game saving tackle to prevent Fat Boy Bettis from being ALL TIME LOSER.

I would not take too much stock in mock drafts. Those are not based on any kind of inside info. Even if they trade AB I doubt they go # wr.......although Ben does seem to pull a lot of weight in the draft.

But they weren’t 12-4 were they?? And even if they were, the year before they had the kicker help them to a 13-3 record and got embarrassed in the playoffs.

Ultimately if the Steelers agree with you, they’ll make a go of it. I just don’t happen to agree at this time. The trajectory of this team looks to be headed downward, the game day coaching isn’t going to change, the division and the AFC are passing them by and the QB who isn’t well liked in his locker room will likely have one less weapon at his disposal.

By the way, yesterday Ryan Clark mentioned team meetings that were held when he was a Steeler that were called to address “the Ben problem” in the locker room. Anyone know what he was talking about?

I'd rather make a go of it, I'd rather have a few more 10-13 win years, even if they fall short in the playoffs, it's better TV entertainment from September to January, I'm not in a hurry to try to rebuild out of desperation for the "ultimate goal", and last time, it took them 26 years between Bradshaw and Ben to get a REAL QB, in 26 years, I'll be 85 if I'm still living, so personally, I'd rather ride with this group for a year or two more, even if they fall short, in this league, I still think they have at least a slight chance. So we can agree to disagree, I'd rather delay losing seasons and give NOW a shot as long as we still have a REAL QB. And I'm not convinced they will get rid of AB as many of you are.

Trade Tomlin!!!!

That’s what Poni is saying right now. His reasoning is that you’re about to lose the best coach on your staff in Munchak, who is respected by every player in the locker room and beloved by the locker room cancer, Ben. Trade Tomlin, get a return, and promote your best coach.

His rationale is that the Ravens are shopping Harbaugh...and the pirates once traded for Chuck tanner.

its a miracle that Munchak stayed on with us, at a position coach, for as long as he has..

Munchak may be a good OL coach but to pine for him to be your head coach is simply amusing.

You keep saying this. Who is saying this nationally?
There’s been so much noise that it’s hard to keep up. If you have a twitter timeline like I do, then I’m sure you have seen plenty of it if you chose to read it. You can start with guys like Steven A Smith and Colin Cowherd. But the problem for me is that I don’t put much credence in any of it. The local guys know better than the national guys. The local guys are in and around that locker room. The national guys only pretend that they know. All of this said, The key takeaway is that the sentiment is everywhere. Right. Wrong. Educated or ignorant.

I agree, he wasn't that great as the Titans coach.

I'd get a guy like the Rams coach, a young, offense first mind.
