OT: When you might not live in a Hockey Town

Definitely cheering for a Pens vs Preds finals. I might even get to see a game in Pittsburgh AND in Nashville if that happens.

Pittsburgh loves hockey the rest of the nation (correctly) thinks it sucks. just look at the ratings.

Typical Old Guy rant. Go watch the Pirates with the rest of the 33 people who care.

in a perfect world......i step up to the number 1 tee box....stripe a driver to 80 yards....with a very approachable pin......

turn around, and tell TJ Oshe.....Holtby, Ovechkin and Wilson

"No, you cant play through.........."

Not sure about the correctly statement. Hockey is a pretty neat sport. I just dont care for it. You were correct though in that the national ratings are atrocious. Its life in Pittsburgh, a niche sport in most American NHL cities, and similar to lacrosse and volleyball in cities without a team.

Right, because 25-point blowouts and players airing beefs with Ray Allen on live TV is so much more entertaining. I recognize that not everyone is a hockey fan, but the intensity, physicality and late-game drama is pretty hard to match by any other sport. Tonight's Game 7 between the Pens and Caps is going to be an all-time classic and those of us who love hockey could care less if you aren't watching.

Lacrosse and Volleyball? The ratings nationally aren't comparable to the other Big 3 pro sports, but I don't see lacrosse or volleyball in prime time on Saturday night on NBC. Not NBCSN. N-B-C.

I'd argue that Pittsburgh loves hockey when the Penguins are good, which admittedly is pretty often of late. I used to get tickets with my buddies for $5 when the Pens and Flyers played in the 2002-05 range and the place was 25% Philly fans and only 80% full in general.

80% full is probably pushing it. There were plenty of nights during those years where there were no more than 3k or 4k people in attendance. Remember when they'd do "student rush?"

Oh yeah. That's how I'd get the Flyers tickets. $5 and I'd have to sneak in my own snacks. I can't imagine they still do anything similar, do they?

Student rush was never $5 AFAIK. It was $20.

I could swear I got my tickets for $5 in like 2004/05 with my Pitt ID. I could be misremembering, but it was def dirt cheap for a big rivalry game like the Flyers that historically brings fans out. It was definitely the Igloo and the Pens def stunk at the time.

outstanding........

The last time the Pens did a student rush game was all the way back around a month or so ago.

They don't do it for every game anymore, but they set aside tickets for some number of games every year to do it.
You beat me to this. This has been around forever. Just not sure many know about it or take advantage of it.

There was no season in 2004-05.

Dude, I've had a lot of beers in the past decade, plus, I am not a Penguins fan. I just know that I went to a few rush games for really cheap and there weren't many fans there. I graduated in 2006, so it must have been the 05-06 season.
