I wouldn't have watched but I saw a social media post from Clairton complaining about the lack of coverage. I mean Channel 22 The Point televises a Friday Game of the Week live and we know Root does WPIAL games. How could South Fayette vs New Castle be televised in Week 5 but not actual WPIAL Championship games? Seems unfair to the kids.

Not sure why the WPIAL doesn't sell all 6 games as a "package." If Root wants the 3A-6A games, it has to do the 1A and 2A games the next week. If they dont want them, Channel 22 never has any programming, they'd be glad to buy a WPIAL Championship TV package I'd think. The WPIAL should consider moving to Channel 22 anyway because Root only shows 2 live championship games due to Penguins conflicts.

I was at the Pitt game, so I didn't notice, but that's too bad if they weren't on. I know I get annoyed when the WPIAL title games are on tape delay because of a Pens game.

Root has the rights to the WPIAL the penguin game conflict plus a commitment to college game made it impossible. WPIAL looks really bad for breaking up the finals the way they did.

Yeah, obviously they should have played all six games on the same day at the same site. 7, 10, 1, 4, 7, and 10. I mean sure, a 7 AM start would really suck for those kids (and 10 AM is no peach either). Too bad. And sure, if you get a couple of overtime games that last game might not start until midnight or so. Suck it up, kiddos.

Because 1A and 2A champs enter the PIAA semis, they had to be played a week later so you couldn't do 6 on 1 day.....or 1 weekend.

Still, the WPIAL should have packaged all 6. If Root didnt want 6 over 2 weekends, Channel 22 may have and could have did the night games lives instead of on tape-delay.

The 3A champ also enters the PIAA semifinals, but the WPIAL decided that they wanted them to play the weekend before so there would be four games that day instead of three. Because of that Beaver Falls had a week off this past weekend.

As to the packaging, they did package all six games. And all other playoff games. In an exclusive deal with Root. No one else is allowed to televise WPIAL playoff games. It's not like they decide this on a year to year basis. They have had a contract with Root for several years. The current television deal predates the PIAA decision to go to six classes. Perhaps when the current deal expires the WPIAL will do something to ensure that all six games are shown. My guess, however, is that if doing so cost them even $1 of right's fees that it won't happen. Because the WPIAL is all about milking that playoff cow as much as possible. It's why you have teams with three or even two wins making the playoffs. Don't make any money off of regular season games plus make money off playoff games equals more playoff games, even if it means allowing teams into the playoffs that absolutely suck.

7 am start? What time would those kids have to get to the stadium to warm up for a 7 am start?

Who cares? It would make it so that all the games could be televised on the same day from the same site. That's a really important factor, doncha know?

Maybe just have those kids pull an all nighter. Practice for when they get to college.

Sorry Joe. But, unless my sarcasm meter is broken, this is the dumbest post I have read this year.
You want high school kids to play what is likely the biggest game of their careers at 7 am ????
"Too bad" and "Suck it up, kiddos"
I stand corrected: Dumbest post in history.

Yeah, you really didn't get it. I was responding to the post that couldn't understand why they broke the games up, and showing how absurd it would be for them to play all the games at one site on one day like they have in the past.

OK....sorry about that.
Nobody has ever accused me of being the bright bulb in the box.
Please accept my apology.

I would say your sarcasm meter is indeed broken...
