Our defense is going to vastly different in 2 years

We better hope so. Our offense is going to look a lot worse after losing Canada.

Without our offense this past year. We would of been 3-9 instead of 8-4.

We potentially have 5 guys that are going to get drafted this year from the offensive side of the ball. Canada did a good job, but a big part of his success were those guys.

I think many Pitt fans are really going to miss Canada.

His offense was able to keep teams with a lot more talent off balance. Something Chaney couldn't do with the exact same players. Who now makes 950,000 at Georgia.

There was a reason why LSU offered the guy a ton of money. He can flat out coach.

All anyone needs to do is look how many times we were flagged for a illegal shift or illegal percedure. With all the shifting and motion we used. My bet is not many.

Sign of a well coached unit.

Yea just ask North Carolina State just trying to be a balance. There are other good OC. The offense will be different next year just because of personnel. It still has a chance to be good. The QB is key. Which Canada had a good one.

You really don't know that it's going to look a lot worse. Canada is not the only OC in the universe.

There is no question at all that Canada did a fantastic job here. The next guy will be different and we are unlikely to score as many points but that doesn't mean we won't score any.

There is no evidence that our offense will be vastly worse. Sure there will be a drop off, at least at the start, but there is talent replacing talent. Our RB core will need to step up and one of Browne and MacVittie will need to emerge, two things I think will happen. Our WRs will be better just for the fact that Weah will be a legitimate deep threat from day one as opposed to starting off shakily last year and the rest will have another year under their belt. Tight end should be solid with Clark and Reeves. Line is losing a good bit but there are solid replacements waiting to take over.

It all comes down to picking a good OC which I'm confident PN will do. If the defense takes a step toward there is no reason to believe we can't replicate our success next year even if the offense is less explosive.

The new DE imo is a couple years away, but definately has the tools to get it done.
It had better be. Nowhere to go but up from this year. Looks my forward to getting some bigger, better athletes in the secondary and at LB. We all saw what happened with our lethal combo of too small and too slow at those spots.

And with all due respect to Galambos, Caprara and Idowu, those guys just aren't P5 caliber LBs. I have high hopes that a couple of these young guys are ready to grab their spots with both hands a,d not let go for 3 years.

Hoping we have an even "average" pass D next year... No more embarrassing displays like we saw several times this year.

No question Matt Canada did a outstanding job w/our offense in a very short amount of time. But make no mistake that the players he inherited allowed him to take on this highly evolved, constant motion offense that demanded that each player be totally dialed into the most fundamental aspects on each & every play. The fact that our pre snap penalties were almost non existent, the timing & execution was beyond words, etc.
Coach Duzz recruits the type of kids very much the same way as PC did...they both went after highly intelligent, self motivated athletes. Maybe we did not always get the highest ranked recruits but we have gotten players who are very mature for their years & take on responsibility away from the confines of the staff, locker room, etc.
People need to start getting away from constantly praising the star ratings & look a bit deeper into what kind of young players we are getting too mix w/ their character, maturity, self motivation. etc.
Not only were we not just improving the type of athlete we were getting but we also became very selective on what kind of individuals went along w/ their athletic ability.
Kids like Dojo, Biz, Conner, Orndoff, O'Neill, Officer, etc. all have something major in common they are not high drama, high maintance kids who need to be babysat at every stage of their lives.
This is so much more important than anyone gives credit too. These kids were the ones who made it even possible for Matt Canada to attempt to run the type of offense he did let alone be as successful as it was after less than a single year. And we had so much more athletic talent than anyone on this site saw coming into this season.
Point is our recruiting has been a raging success when anyone takes the time to step back & look at the high quality character mixed w/ the athletic ability of players the past 2 staffs have brought in. There is much more in common between Coach Duzz & PC philosophically when going after a type of individual person / recruit to build a successful program around than what separates them.
And they both understand that building any program is more of a marathon than a sprint. Coach Duzz proved this by staying pat on his defensive scheme regardless of the pressure, desire to change, etc. of this past season. And the offense has started to show it's metal w/ the maturity & development that the O-Line & specialty players have displayed this year.

Pitt recruiting was suspect under Chryst. But in the last two years and this year Narduzzi has brought in better material and we will see the benefits of that starting next year. Like Narduzzi said, can't wait to see how the group looks next year. Hamlin, Coleman, Garner, Miller, Pugh, Pine, Camp,Watts. Wheeler, Weaver, Jones, Reynolds, maybe Gilbert all are defensive talents.

Ironically, what jumps out for me in Coach Duzz's recruits has been --

SPEED, SPEED, SPEED...

Go Pitt.

Actually, Narduzzi took one look at what Chryst left him and realized he didn't have the QB or defensive personnel to be competitive in a P5 league, so he began offering any grad transfer QB with a pulse and tried to get immediate JUCO and transfer help at DE. He followed it up by a recruiting class loaded with defensive prospects. Chryst had left him a defense that wouldn't do credit to a lower-tier MAC team.

Like all coaches, Narduzzi is trying as hard as he can to bring the best players he can get into his program. If he could bring in nothing but 4 and 5 star players he would.

So enough with this BS about how we are targeting lesser rated, higher character kids. It's such a slappy argument. He's going after the best players he can realistically have a shot at getting. Period. If that means offering a questionable character kid who got thrown off the Maryland team for repeated disciplinary violations like he did last year, so be it.
