Looking at Pat Narduzzi's coaching record at Pitt against some ACC opponents and breaking it down, just wondered your thoughts on it.

Vs. Boston College 1-3 (0-2 on the road) - to me that should be better with a home game against them this year
vs. Clemson 2-3 - to me that's better than expected as good as Clemson's been under Dabo Swinney
vs. Duke 7-1 - good work
vs. Florida State 1-1 with a road game coming up this year
vs Georgia Tech 6-2 with a road game coming up this year about right I'd say
vs. Louisville 3-2 acceptable with a home game against them this year
vs. Miami 2-6 hard to judge since Miami has so much talent but doesn't play up to it, with a home game against them this year
vs. North Carolina 3-6 should be better
vs North Carolina State 0-2 with both losses at home with a home game against them this year
vs Notre Dame 0-4 not surprising with a home game against them this year
vs Syracuse 8-2 acceptable with a road game against them this year
vs. Virginia 6-2
vs Virginia Tech 5-4 with VT down from the Frank Beamer era, should be better against them
vs Wake Forest 2-1
Bowl Record 2-5 disappointing ending the season on a down note too often against lesser teams
vs Big 10 teams 1-6 (Iowa 0-1, Penn State 1-3, Northwestern 0-1, Michigan State 0-1)
vs SEC teams 1-1 (Tennessee)
vs Big 12 teams 4-5 (Oklahoma State 0-2, West Virginia 2-1, Cincinnati 1-1, UCF 1-1)

How do you think Pat Narduzzi's done against those schools?

I think pat usually wins the games he should and even occasionally wins games he shouldn't. He doesn't have atrocious losses but does have some bad ones.

I tend to think given where we are in the world of college football, a bit right where we should be, maybe a tad under achieving. Throw a lot more NIL money then expectations go up.

Being 1-3 to BC pisses me off. They’ve owned us since the early 80’s.

See, I think he does have some pretty atrocious ones. Two years in row, UNC only had a single P5 win... and both times it was us. It also doesn't get much worse than losing to Wake in 2023 (their only ACC win that season) and Syracuse that same year (particularly when you look at how badly we were thumped) when neither of them had a real quarterback playing the position.

And that's not even counting the disheartening beatdowns, of which there have been many. Notre Dame has outscored us 103-10 the last two games. Oklahoma State was up on us 49-0 at halftime and could have easily dropped 100 if they felt like it. But there have been plenty of more drubbings.

Overall this is about right. The out of conference is pretty embarrassing and really illustrates how bad the ACC is. 3-8 vs the other power conferences compared to a winning record against the ACC.

Being 2-3 vs. Clemson is pretty impressive considering they have been one of the best 2 or 3 programs in the country during Narduzzi's tenure. They have won 2 national titles and made the playoffs the second most of any program since the playoffs era began.

The record against Miami and UNC is bad considering they have both been equal to or worse than Pitt over the last decade. I get annoyed when people say how "talented" they have been. That talent doesn't seem to show up against anyone but Pitt. If they were actually as talented as people claim they are then their records would have been a lot better than the mediocrity they have produced over the last decade.

Syracuse and BC are odd because they feel like very similar programs but we have dominated Syracuse and been dominated by BC.

Pitt also drew the lucky card when they got put in the Coastal and Syracuse went to the Atlantic... and then we got Syracuse as a crossover opponent even on top of that.

Our ACC record is pretty good considering our athletic department budget, facilities, attendance, NIL budget, recruiting footprint, etc. But our non conference record of 6-12 against other power conference teams (or 6-16 counting Notre Dame as non-conference) has been really bad. And many years, that either put us in a before the season even got rolling and/or ended the year on a frustrating bowl loss.
