Patrick Jones with the sack in the senior bowl

Was vicious.

all the guys playing well.

He needed to play well, as he was listed as a guy who had a bad week leading up to the game. Almost assuredly out of the 1st round now, someone is going to get a bargain around the late 2nd round.

He didn’t have a bad week,I saw several people saying he did really well this week

The color guy on TV must have said he had a bad week 3 times. I don't know.

Was fun watching Morrissey vs. Weaver for one play!

Yeah he was pancaked blocked once and dominated the rest of the week.

In fact the Steelers met with him, along with the Giants and Lions

ESPN didn't give Jones good grades at all..

"While Jones is still a bit of a project on the edge based on his traits, his production over the past two seasons is a big part of his appeal. He had 17.5 sacks over the past two seasons. But his experience in Mobile started poorly when he checked in with only 32-inch arms despite being 6-4, which is well below the desired length for an edge defender.
It didn't get much better when he hit the field against the better tackles at the Senior Bowl and that production disappeared. He only won 11% percent of his reps on the week in the one-on-ones and looked out of his depth when asked to rush from the interior. Jones came in as a possible first-rounder but now looks like a late Day 2 possibility."

Who cares about one rep or two. Jones has a ton of tape showing that he can play football very well. He will be fine and get a good contract to start.

Everything I heard out of the major outlets was he struggled all week.

One thing that scouts aren't going to use as a denominator is sacks. It's winning reps. A case in point is Jarvis Jones. He played in a 3-4 where he was being stunted all over the place. I remember naysayers were pointing out that he rarely wins straight up 1 on 1 matchups. However, he put up a ton of sacks. Then he had a horrible combine. Still drafted in the 1st round but was a complete and utter bust.

I don't know Patrick's win rate, but I do know we create a ton of our pressure with our zone blitz.

Quinn Meinerz is a stud. Apparently he made a number of D1 players look bad last week.

As for Patrick Jones, I have seen 3-4 other clips of him going against other guys in Mobile. It wasn’t as bad as against Meinerz, but he got handled by tackles from Cincy, Western Michigan and that huge kid from Northern Iowa.

Practice stats are the absolute worst. There have been UDFAs at Steelers training camp who looked good when matched up one on one, then as soon as they got in game action they disappeared. Jones film will speak for itself. I never saw him mentioned as a first-round prospect, so I'm not quite sure where ESPN was getting that information. High end I've seen is first and low end fourth.

High end you've seen is first? So how haven't you seen him mentioned as a first round prospect? Those are the same thing.

I saw him at the tail end of the first in a number of mocks but now it's all second or third. There was more than one source saying he had a bad week. Not a good sign when he was mentioned at the outset of the broadcast as having a lot to prove.

Wow, a football player lost a battle. Unheard of in the sport’s history.

I think Jones could play OLB in the Steelers’ system. Coming down a little in weight shouldn’t be an issue.

I get you and I remember that you called Jones before the Steelers drafted him. You said that he was going to suck essentially. And, you were right. Jarvis Jones, I mean.

FWIW, I think Patrick is a lot better than that guy. He seemingly dominated 1 on 1 at times during actual games. He even put up a sack in this one. He is generally a load and clearly is a solid athlete.

I am not saying the guy is a first rounder, but I would be plenty surprised if he did not have a nice NFL career. He fits the profile and is a guy that by all accounts works hard.

I expect our Jones to have a similar career as Jabaal Sheard. I never thought Patrick was bad or even average. I was a huge Sheard fan and I really like Jones. I think Patrick is a real good player. I'm just playing some devil's advocate.

I'll tell you one guy who is coming into the team who is under the radar but I expect him to really surprise is the kid from Central Valley. I love his film and his style of play. I think his best days are ahead of him.
