Chryst 31-6 as their head coach, Hornbrook (Pitt verbal and three star QB) and likely four year starter, and seven coaches who coached at Pitt with their assignments at Wisconsin include: Jo Rudolph offensive co-ordinator and line coach, John Settle (rb's) , Chris Haering (special teams), Inoke Breckinfield (defensive line) Ross Kolodziel (stren. and conditioning ) and Mickey Turner ( tight ends coach) and offensive quality control coach Jon Budmayer.

It just shows you how difficult it is to recruit and win here.

When PC was at pitt, he was coaching against the other team and he was coaching against the pitt admin/BoT. BoT and Admin are not interested in trying to win.

That says there is something wrong with Pitt not just the coach. Although the best Pitt teams in a while were recruited by Chryst so maybe we under rate him especially as an offensive coach and run game coordinator.
and he took a bad rap for defensive recruits and some were really stretches but i believe his staff recruited the following who were in NFL camps this summer - Price (not sure who got him to transfer) Soto, Jarrett, Bradley, Pitts , Webb and Galambos and whoever else i forgot.

Pitt was Chryst’s Practice facility, nothing more. I don’t fault him but he never intended to be here long term.

Pitt is a football dead end bad stadium, small fan base, small budget.
We are the Pittsburgh Pirates of college football.

Jarrett and Price were Graham recruits.

By the way, Wisconsin held Iowa to 66 yards in total offense today. Yes, 66 yards. 5 first downs.

To take it a step further, how about the former Pitt coordinators and assistants absolutely killing it:

Chaney
Canada
Huxtable
Norvell
Gibson
Rudolph

The worst decision Pitt ever made in this 30 plus yr twilight zone was not hiring Barry Alvarez, instead Posvar staggered into the locker room of the Sun Bowl and handed the job to Paul “ Buddy “ Hackett.

And Barry played the pin heads at Pitt like a bass fiddle getting Coach Cheese the HCing experience he needed to take over the W program.

Pay back to Pitt for Barry was a dish best served cold.

Chryst wasn’t the Moose Lodge mumbling bumpkin some posters on here like to keep saying he is was. He’s a good coach who would have had our program in a much better place.

he would have had he not left. You guys leave that out. Some fans insulted him after he left. Sour grapes stuff. But again, he left pitt. You guys post this like we pushed him out and that's simply not true.

19 - 19 at pitt. That's his record.

Where did I say that. My point is a lot of fans were all over him for his mannerisms. And that was while he was coaching here.

They didn't recruit Price, Jarrett or Pitts. They deserve every bit of the rap they earned for poor recruiting.

Another thing that the yinzers here have to deal with is that there is only 1 PA player on their roster, and he is from eastern PA, so all the BS about recruiting local needs to die. There are much better players outside western PA.

There are about 20 players from the wpial that this roster would love to have, playing and succeeding on other rosters who are much better than us. But yeah, let's ignore Pittsburgh kids, great strategy.

You recruit locally and out of state. It's not one or the other, our staff can visit local kids AND take planes to Florida.
There is talent in Western PA, but those kids are surrounded by negativity towards Pitt. There are a lot of PSU, WVU, ND, OSU fans in the area. The media is constantly taking shots at Pitt. The Gameday atmosphere sucks. Pitt’s own fans do not show up. Then you have some kids that simply want to leave the area or do not like an Urban campus. Pitt is not ignoring Pittsburgh kids. It is just an uphill battle. Even Wanny struggled as time went on.

I agree with this but it doesn't mean we should just put up the white flag and move on.

Narduzzi is not giving up, but you cannot just wait around. I will say - next year’s class is pretty weak. We will need more emphasis elsewhere for that class.

I'd argue that while Canada is good, he is not having anywhere near the season he had offensively at pitt. I think he will do really, really well there, but the point totals pitt was putting up last year were just off the charts, LSU has a great RB in Guice and the SEC has some really tough defenses, but while at pitt, a middle of the pack ACC team, his offense did enough to win every single game in the regular season.

let me point out something. canada had a career year last year. he will never again have a year that good. don't get me wrong, its not a slight towards matt. he has kept steady employment as a OC. unlike our current OC.

we averaged 41 points per game last year.....and we lost 5 games. think about that for a second and let that sink in.

PC got some great OJT here. Made his mistakes as a novice HC at Pitt’s expense. Just like Barry Alvarez hoped for and planned it.

No reason to think about, last year's lack of defense has been discussed adnauseum.

When you average that many points per game, that should be a one-loss season at worst, especially when you consider two of their wins included Penn State and Clemson.

Don't discount Pederson's role in making it very difficult for Chryst. At Wisconsin, the AD wants to win. Pederson wanted control above all else.

The decisions at Pitt about the amount of athletics funding allocations are made well above the AD level. There is no "carte blanche" spending available to try to spend the way to football success at Pitt.

So yes, SP had to be a very difficult AD for Pitt HFC's to work for. But in large part, he was only following orders from above. Especially w/r/t the budget for football spending. It's hard for any Pitt fans to comprehend why he was hired for a second tenure as Pitt AD. Only MN can answer that. Unfortunately we can't re-write history.

The only 3 of those guys who were/are legit players were BC-before Chryst. You’re touting Galambos, Bradley and Webb? RUFKM?

No I definitely agree with all of that. Like I said I think he'll be good at LSU, but it's damn near impossible to do what he did last year ever again. We should've been playing for a national championship last year, that's how good the offense was. We legitimately could've been in the playoffs with a slightly below average defense. To go 8-4 in the regular season, that defense was historically pathetic.

I thought that last year was the year when we went toe-to-toe offensively with Penn State, Oklahoma State and Clemson. Plus with Virginia Tech and Miami, both Fuentes and Richt were in their first year at those schools playing with previous coaches players and I knew they'd be better in 2017 than in 2016. Last year the stars aligned and Narduzzi's defense sucked for a second straight year, right at the near bottom of the entire FBS.

I'd have to look at the numbers, but was the defense really that bad in 2015? I remember how god awful it was in 2014, almost as bad as last year's, and then narduzzi in 2015 actually improved the defense a lot.

2016 though, definitely, it was way, way, way near the bottom. I mean it was his second year as a head coach, that's 1 negative already that dampens a year where everything could've aligned right. But still, they really only needed a defense that could make a couple stops here and there and not get torched on every single long pass they saw, their offense rarely got stopped. And now this year our offense is really struggling and the defense at times looks worse than last year's even as an overall unit.

Same people who thought this school was too good for Jamie Dixon lol.
They deserve what they're getting.
Problem is they really don't feel guilty at all.
They can go to some art show opening in Squirrel Hill in their hipster glasses and be complimented on not being too yinzer.
