Beat the Caps.
Pens have better depth this season in forwards and d man.
Any predictions from anyone ?
go Pens

They’re definitely better than last year, but so is most of the East, outside of Ottawa.

Same story as last year. A TON of offense, we could have easily had 10 goals. But Defensive gaffes at critical times & shaky goaltending.

Play was too sloppy by both teams, too much scoring. I can’t wait for a couple weeks from now when the play gets better.

Nice bounce back in the 2nd and 3rd for Letang, he looked like dog shit in the 1st.

Sprong is good enough for 2nd PP unit, but not to get a regular shift. Sullivan frustrates me with his favorites and dog houses.

I hope Murray can get that glove at least respectable.

They could win it this year. So much talent. Just have to clean things up defensively or get great goaltending. We’re going to score a ton of goals again

The Pens should win every game by a shut out.
It is the Caps. They scored 7 the night before too.
They only scored 6 this game. The Pens scored 7.
MAF allowed 5 goals in 16 shots, Murray 6 goals in 36 shots. Before and I am cutting some of you off...because some of you still want to make every game a referendum on the goalie choice 2 years back.
The Pens scored 7 goals against the Stanley Cup champs, against Holtby.
Letang taketh aways sometimes, but a good, healthy Letang giveth a lot of times.
This team is incredibly deep.
Game 1 of 82. Relax.

You’re right, Murray’s glove hand and over all play isn’t a concern.
Nor is his durability.

Defensive giveaways in our defensive zone isn’t a problem.

Let this sink in another hundred times.

The concerns with Murray have nothing to do with fleury.
Nothing .
It’s about Murray.

The book is out on him, he either needs to improve - or he won’t be in the league long.

Comments have nothing to do with last night(missed game)..... but the Pens are much deeper team this season and should be better.

Definitely need to cut down on the turnovers, hopefully defense improves and hopefully Murray regains his form. From what I read about last night, none of that really happened but it was one game against another really good team.

I hope we don't have to endure alot of 7-6, 8-7, 6-5 games this season.
Ok we won but Murray needs to step it up or this will be a long season.
He will be a great goalie for the PENS but has to get focused soon rather than later!

Last year Mrs Buffett and I gave him a break since his father died and he had some injuries to deal with.
Those events had a big impact on him, his play/concentration last season according to Penquin team reports. Anyone gets that.

He's fully recovered from injuries and we hope his father didn't die again this season.
Let's play hockey Murray!

I had a single Canadian guy ( Finance Mgr Canada based in Canada) who worked for me and he would blow threw his vacation early in the year.

One year he said I need a week off my mother died. Sure. Later in the year I need a week off my father died. Sure.
The next year right around beach season his mother died again???

"it's five o'clock somewhere"
Signed: Mr Buffett
Go PITT & CSU Rams!

It's not just Murray, maybe not much Murray at all. I watched only parts of the game while it was 3-2. I actually didn't see a goal during the time I watched, which seems amazing. But in that short time he saved their bacon a few times on careless giveaways, blind passes, sloppy breakouts etc. It's just the classic run n gun Pens mindset that often delivers stunning goals, but heartburn too...

Still exhaling from last night’s game. Murray’s performance is worrisome based on what happened last year, but it’s only one night and it’s not like Holtby was any better (and that’s one night after having a shutout). The defensive commitment that was missing quite often last year was missing again last night. Overall though, there was a significant amount of offensive skill on that ice last night and I’m glad the NHL rules and current style of play allow for these types of games like the old days. There was a 15 year period where the Devils and Panthers of the world inspired clutch and grab, boring hockey.

One can acknowledge that the Pens' Stanley Cup hopes will be derailed by poor goaltending does not mean one is necessarily making a statement on the goalie choice from two years ago.

Murray must be better. @steel_curtain said he'd be the greatest goalie ever. He needs to prove it.

Just some comments ........

- Nice to beat the Caps but hard to tell too much about the team after one game.

- Some concerns I had coming into the season ...... 1) Goaltending ...... will Murray bounce back to Stanley Cup form this year and do we have a good enough backup goalie to take over if Murray goes down for an extended period ? ...... 2) Will the defense improve ..... will Letang improve after a down year, will Jack Johnson fit in and help, is the young kid from Finland that they signed (Riikola) good enough to help ? ..... 3) Are our 3rd and 4th lines better ? ..... 4) Will Sprong have a breakout year ?

- Goaltending ...... Murray certainly wasn't great but on 5 of the 6 goals he was at least in good position ...... the 1st goal where there was a shot from the slot which was wide, hit the boards behind the net and quickly rebounded out right on the stick of a Cap to Murray's right who one timed it in before Murray could push across toward the post is the one he wasn't in position to make the save ..... that was a tough play but he hesitated slightly in pushing toward the post and the puck was in the net before he got there. Even if he doesn't hesitate, I'm not sure if he gets there in time anyway but he would have had a better chance ...... the other 5 goals he was in good position but 2 were deflected in which are tough to save, 2 were great shots high over the glove hand which were not easy saves but if you are in good position you hope to have a decent chance to make the save on those, the other goal was Orpik's shot from the blue line which was a bad goal. Again, only one game, let's see how things go.

- When you give up 6 goals, the defense probably wasn't good, although I was encouraged by Letang with 2 goals and I really thought Jack Johnson played well ... his breakout passes were really good, he was the only defenseman that didn't have a giveaway in the game (team had 15), he had 2 hits, 2 blocks, and did OK on the 2nd power play unit. Johnson had the 2nd most minutes of the defensemen...... a good 1st game for him.

- 3rd line of Brassard, Rust, and Simon played very well.

- 4th line was a little suspect and I don't think Sprong played at all 5v5 in the 3rd period.

Again, nice win, many things to improve upon, only one game, let's see how things develop.

This Team will not make the Playoffs with Murray playing All year.. His Glove Hand is the Worst in Hockey.. it’s comical how 90% Of shots are directed there by opposing teams. All 4 goals given up in preseason were there.. I’m thinking his left hand is paralyzed and hasn’t informed the Team

Too bad they can’t transplant Jeff’s good arm on Murray

-They must of changed the boards at the Penguins games. These boards are like spring boards, the puck fires hard off any time it touches them for crazy bounces. I know Detroit used these back when we played in the Stanley Cups. Now ours fires possibly even harder. This is weird watching this.
