Total fraud

Beat decent but not great teams Illinois and SMU at home. Beat a mid-major in Arizona. That's the resume. I hope Big Game James sends thank you letters to the CFP because they had no business being seeded ahead of a team that beat them at their place and were given an extremely easy draw.

Exactly. Give them a different draw and they don't make it out of round 1, let alone the quarters.

What a joke. They need to change that and I say that knowing that Pitt could possibly benefit from a Top 4 seed. Give the conference champs a Top 8 seed and guaranteed home game. That's fine. Lets say we go 10-3 one year and win the ACCCG. Giving us an 8 seed and hosting 9 seed LSU is fine.

- Didn’t beat OSU.
- Didn’t win the Big 10 Championship.
- Didn’t win the National Championship.

It’s the same as every other year for them.

They'll be in the CFP every year. They wont lose more than 2 going forward. Recruiting is too good and Franklin is literally one of the best coaches of all time when favored.
He’s amazing. It’s like peak Jamie Dixon plus, if that makes sense. He’s gonna win a ton of games, literally no shot at winning it all. A hilarious Groundhog Day for Penn Staters. It’s not the worst spot to be in, but he just cannot beat a team with similar or more talent, really ever. It’s nuts

It sure would be nice if Pitt "didn't do anything" and made it to the national semi-final.

Jamie Dixon is a good comparison. Dixon very rarely lost when favored. He has fallen off some but for a time, I bet he would rank as one of the best coaches of all time when favored. Franklin is literally in that discussion. He recruits so freaking well that its nearly impossible to lose to Maryland or Purdue. And he should thank Pitt, Maryland, Rutgers, UVa, and VT for having pathetic football programs. Franklin doesnt even have to recruit against those teams for NJ, DMV, Hampton Roads, or WPA kids. He's just selecting who he wants because those programs dont like football. I'm not sure there is as populated an area as a circle drawn from NJ to WPA down to Hampton Roads and up with such inept football programs. The players are all there to be had but PSU picks first, ND, Mich, SEC get a few and the home teams get the leftover scraps. Shouldnt be.

And all things considered, this really was their year. No SEC power (all due respect to Texas) looming over the field. They got the cake draw of all draws.

And this ND team is nothing special. They are probably like 9-3 if they played in the SEC, but again, their talent level is close to Penn St, so Franklin loses.

They will go 10-2 or 11-1 next season, lose in the playoffs, probably Round 1. Rinse, repeat, forever. Again, that might be fine for them, but it’s crazy how he just can’t win a big game against similar talent.

As for Jamie - he DID beat quite a few teams with more talent (more games in basketball) but we really never had like a “wow” crazy loss in the tournament. We almost always won the first game, could never beat a higher seeded team.

ND was favored by 1.5 and the metrics show he is one of the worst coaches of all time when an underdog. The difference is remarkable.

yeah, but alot of those money underdogs were single digits and mostly because his record sucks in them.
Rarely due to less talent etc.
He's a leader at having to explain endings of games like the miriad of other bad coaches.
They hit the lotto with dropping divisions and expanding playoff., but eventually he still couldn't get out of his own way.

REALLY????? Give Pitt the $$$$ and resources that st penn has. Frankieboy choked again, especially when given the easiest path in the tourney. SMH
I am not defending PSU or Franklin. What Pitt fan would not take a berth in the semi-finals, even if they "didn't do anything?" PSU did enough to get there, how they did it is irrelevant.

I doubt that they would ever get a better draw than this year. I'm sure they will be back playing the yearly schedule they play, but, even if they manage to somehow beat Ohio St. they still won't have a path tailored to them like this year was.

Yes, we would take it of course but PSU is in a higher weight class. They are probably Top 10 in player payroll and all they have to show for it are home wins over Illinois and SMU and a neutral site win over Boise State. They underachieved.

Dixon was a #1 seed twice and failed to make a Final Four.

True. Franklin is similar to Dixon in some ways but a key difference is that Dixon beat many teams more talented to earn those 1 seeds. Franklin beat a bunch of girls teams and them was gifted an extremely easy bracket based on a technicality.

Franklin took over a scandal-ridden dumpster fire. After 11 years, he still has his program relevant and competing at a high level.

Dixon inherited a solid Pitt program and sustained it for 8 years. By year 11, Pitt basketball was irrelevant again nationally.

Edit: franklin left a scandal ridden program to take over a scandal ridden program....

Glad to see you are still carrying his water after all these years

There was no cover up at Vanderbilt. What happened, happened & it was turned over to police and the guilty parties never played another down at Vanderbilt and the Justice system took care of it.

I agree with most of this but the Bradley loss in 2006 surely stung.

So was the Pacific loss. It was an 8/9 game, but it wasn't really competitive.
Not so much actually. That was a really good Pacific team with a Pomeroy just about the same as ours.

However, I do agree that we didn’t play well. It was a really unfortunate setting in Boise where they got there easily and we had to take three plane trips. We actually did walk throughs in the airport instead of a practice court.

I’m not making excuses as, like I said, we didn’t play well which was typical for Dixon in the NCAA tournament. But just because they were “Pacific” doesn’t mean they were a pushover because they certainly were not.

Please. He took over a blue blood, who went 7-5 the year before and there were no sanctions when he took over. Not exactly a dumpster fire

Regarding Dixon...

Other than the 8/9 Colorado game, did he or Howland *ever* beat a higher seed?

They were certainly no strangers to losing to lower seeds. Kent State, Marquette, Bradley, Michigan State, Villanova, Xavier, Butler, and Wichita State.

A stigmatized dumpster fire. At the time, a lot of people said they would never be relevant again.

Not one person said that and if they did, they were idiots. They got a 2 year bowl ban and lost a couple scholarships. Franklin inherited a fine situation.

Would Narduzzi take that?
Narduzzi would get a severe nose bleed at that altitude.
Franklin nearly got the Nits into the national championship game with junior high wide receivers and his QB having a poor game.
If PSU elected to cut the chord for some reason, Franklin would not be unemployed long.

I'd take Franklin over Narduzzi
