Penn state had 6 chances to report Sandusky

Am I correct in that psu still hasn't released a Cleary report? I guess no crime ever occurs there

Exactly. Look the other way and hope he stops or more importantly doesn't get caught! That's all they really cared about

Yeah, I'm sure Paterno's well known dislike of Sandusky wasn't just due to personality clashes. But he didn't dislike him enough to risk the reputation of his precious football kingdom.

Nonsense. Jerry is innocent. There was nothing for Joe to know because nothing bad happened. This is a conspiracy because everyone in the world hates Penn State.

I just hope, beyond hope, that someday the truth will come out so the real victim, Joe's legacy's, can be restored!

Schiano and Bradley named in mcqueary testimony as well. They all knew. You know Schiano will never roll on paterno. I doubt scrap will either[/QUOTE]

I'd like to see Fran Ganter's deposition. Sounds like it could be interesting as well.

It has been clear to anyone outside the PSU bubble that PSU was a program that was a phony as a 3 dollar bill. What is also clear is money talks and no way PSU will ever pay the full price for it's despicable behavior. The political and monetary interests in the end call the shots.

I will play Devils advocate here and state that this is coming from the insurance company but there is too much smoke to ignore. Like I said above, they mentioned 3 separate coaches being told with one dead but one a current Tampa Bay coach. If that coach voucher for the story, "there is the truth."

Yes, it's coming from the insurance company because they want to avoid paying millions and millions of dollars out in claims. Their position? That far before 1998 (as far back as 1976 based on allegations in the released documents) that Penn State's head football coach and other school officials knew or should have known about reports that Sandusky had allegations concerning child molestation brought against him.

The insurance company is going to be a very difficult adversary because they do not want to take the huge financial hit for something that they are saying they should have been made aware of early enough to have done something about because PSU knew or should have known what JS was doing to kids.

It does say that one of the reports(1998) were told to the PSU Police, investigated and dropped by the DA Office, similar to the 2001 incident.

It simply does not matter that the charges were dropped.

In 1998, HE SHOWERED WITH A BOY. THE TICKLE MONSTER HIMSELF ADMITTED THIS AT THE TIME!!!!!

And his contract ended at the end of 1998.

I don't know how in the world that any institution (PSU) doesn't look at a situation where an adult showers with a boy, prompting a criminal investigation (regardless of how the investigation ended) and simply doesn't know that the employment needs to end. Period ... end of statement.

Making that worse is that his contract was up. It was an easy way to end this situation without any complications.

But no, PSU was in the running for the national championship in 1999, so they RESIGNED him. Can't be working with a new DC when going for a national championship.

To me, this is the clearest moment of gross negligence, and "football above all" culture, at PSU.

Yes, kudos for them for finally being compliant with the Clery act 15 years after it was signed.

The whole thing is just so disgusting.

And only now because they are being watched and therefore are forced to. Otherwise, it would still be "All's well in Happy Valley"!

No. There has to be a more sinister reason to keep him around. Why the heck wouldn't they just move him down the road and make him someone else's problem? Sandusky wasn't that great of a coach.
Because once you $tart covering up you become as vulnerable as the criminal and they couldn't afford that. By making Sandusky look like he retired to do work at Second Mile feed their delusional self image. If McQueary hadn't spoke up Jerry would still be doing his deeds

Self-induced. I am rolling on the floor in laughter. Thanks for the good laugh. The Cult members have rioted, filed lawsuits, accused the victims of chasing $, and done everything under the sun to fight for Paterno's innocence and try and turn it around as though they were the victims. There is nothing that would change their minds, and I mean nothing.

Ironically, if they had suspended football operations immediately when the scandal broke, actually cleaned house in the athletic department and university and filled the vacancies with individuals outside the incestuous PSU fraternity, and restarted football a year later for the 2013 season, they'd be heading into their 4th year of rebuilding, probably little worse off competitively than they are now, and with a completely different national view of their institution and program. I don't think anyone would have been able to complain or hold any newly revealed issues against them if they had ever shown any sort of real institutional commitment to changing the underlying cultural issues. Unfortunately, the culture of football dominating the university marches along unabated, and the vast majority of their fans and alumni certainly wouldn't have it any other way.

Self induced death penalty of their football program would send a strong message to the victims and show that they are serious about getting healed.
I would stand up and applaud. None of the players would get hurt because they could transfer or just get a free education at PSU. This is what a school with a strong moral compass does.

I honestly think ( to take this argument further ) if Paterno would have gone to Sandusky's house and killed him with witnesses, he would have been a hero and never convicted by his peers. He in fact did the Polar opposite of my ridiculous scenario.

Even worse, he didn't have to kill him. He just had to tell the police to go after him. And yes, he had that sort of pull. Sandusky would have been done.

To recapture many prior posts, Paterno could have actually been a hero if he wasn't such a self-absorbed, single-minded, megalomaniac.

One thing I've never understood about the PSU lunatic fringe's claim that this is all a set up against JoePa is this - Why would they do this to JoePa and PSU??? For all the rotten things that JoePa is, he did play a pivotal role in PSU's development as a university. And his name alone brought millions of dollars in to the university each and every year and not just to the benefit of the football program. So the question of motive in all of this is a major missing piece of the puzzle. Their anti-JoePa conspiracy claims would be a lot more believable if they could offer up a motive.

It's all Pitt fans. Didn't you hear? Even though there are only a couple dozen of us.

Before the whole story came out and we all thought that 98 and 2001 were the only incidents, I said that all JoePa would have had to do was this - tell the 3 stooges that if they don't report it he'd call a special news conference and ask every major media outlet to attend at which he'd report everything he knew and the fact that he told the 3 stooges to do something and they refused. Simple as that. Action would've been taken and Joe would actually have earned the reputation that the cult has bestowed upon him.

I've heard that from time to time. But that doesn't explain the actions of their own board of trustees, none of which are Pitt fans. If the cult wants me to believe that this is all an anti-JoePa witch hunt, they'll need to explain the motive behind it.

Step 1: Disconnect your brain from reality.

It's sad and beyond troubling that they cannot and will not accept this happened.

By the end of the day, every major journalistic entity on Earth will write an article someway stating that Joe Paterno was told about this in 1976. They still won't care.

I hope the state honestly shuts down the school at this point.

There is none. It's just denial and paranoia on the part of some of the "cult" fan element, plain and simple. They don't - they CAN'T - believe that everything they were told by their idol and icon starting in 1966 was a lie. That the folks running the football program actually knew about JS for decades and let it go and covered it up. So they fabricated imaginary reasons; like others are just so jealous and envious of the alleged utopia they called "Happy Valley" that they instigated all of this just to bring Joe down.

Read a few of the comments on the Washington Post article. Some of the sick bastards are saying that this kind of thing was the norm back in the 70s and people looked the other way as opposed to going to the authorities.

Would be interesting to see if some of these assistant coaches who witnessed anything are now deposed. I doubt they admit to anything this far after the fact but who knows.

Apparently Paterno didn't attend Sandusky's retirement function. This was seen as odd at the time, but makes perfect sense in retrospect. But of course, because it was good for the program, Sandusky was allowed to keep full access to PSU football, and was still bringing children to practices even after McQueary reported his observed incident.

Paterno attended Sandusky's retirement function, BUT it was noticeable that he left early. When questioned about his early exit...Paterno replied he didn't want to take away from Jerry's celebration.

You can dig out the article about it from the Post- Gazette about a day after the event.

I'm sure you are right...I know people that were at it and commented about his absence and how inappropriate it seemed at the time. Then or shortly thereafter, there was a well talked-about chill in the air between the two. Certainly leaving a retirement function early for someone with such longevity and importance to your work is considered normal behavior for a boss.

In 15 years from now, after thousands of pages of additional damming evidence is released, the Cult will still be saying "we just want the truth to come out."

I can't help thinking of Ray Gricar as more and more of these revelations come out. I don't know how he met his end (or if he is still out there) but one can't help but wonder as the scope grows.

Would not surprise me at all that Gricar threatened to blow this up. The ups powers couldn't
handle the thought of it and paid to have some New York mobsters visit Ray!

What will we call the 30 for 30 on this? The Secret Life of Peds?

Also, for a laugh riot of denial, check out Fat Scott's Twitter feed.

No matter how much of this disgusting evidence is revealed it will not matter to the majority of the cult that is PENN STATE. The only people they are upset with is McQueary and Freeh. And that F-ing statue will be back soon. These people simply don't care
When presented with overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing, it's amazing that people simply have the ability to deny. An awful lot of this going around these days.
