Penn State OL coach leaving

Do not understand why Pitt's flagship does not have more Pitt graduates. The only ones that are Pitt alum are Dickerson, BOSTICK, Ziese??? Of course Bill Hillgrove is a big Pitt fan. But then you have Pitt critics Hagman, Filaponni, Ron Cook ( who did NOT vote for Fitzgeald for Heirmann) . You think Thr Fan would make a greater attempt to have more Pitt friendly guys.

Simple PITT doesn't have a School Of Journalism.

They should add that major.

So the PITT Flaghip station picks for the schools that have a major in Journalism.
Listen to The Fan for more than a few hrs a day. They dont appear to coordinate the programing. All the hosts repeat what the other guys said. A below avg sport radio network.
I like Ziese at night the others are very average and mostly unprepared for what they talk about.

PITT's Flagship Station 93.7.
Taking on some water ?

True but never understood why you need a degree to talk sports

Limegrover was fired. The O line could not pass block with Clifford rarely having a clean pocket to throw out of. As the season wore on there was no improvement, and it’s a veteran O line to begin with. Can’t even pick up basic stunts. It was particularly bad against Memphis where Penn State’s 4* players could not handle Memphis’ 2 stars. They could run the ball, but pass protection was an adventure. Once the new OCord was hired, the writing was on the wall

Unfortunately as a Pitt fan I think the o-coordinator hire from Minnesota is a very good one. Funny though local media never comments on PSU coaching turnover as they are now on their 4th offensive coordinator in 6 years.

In fairness, two of those offensive coordinators ended up leaving to take FBS head coaching jobs, so it's hard to ding turnover when guys are getting promotions (regardless of whether those head coaching stints end up being successful).

Anyway, just looking at their starting OL this year, they probably should have played closer to what we saw at Pitt in 2016. I don't think anyone would argue that they were at that level...but there's a lot of talent and experience in this group to end up being a pretty middle of the pack big ten offensive line.

LT: Rasheed Walker, RS FR, #65 overall, 4 star, first year starting
LG: Steven Gonzalez, RS SR, #337 overall, 4 star, fourth year starting
C: Michael Menet, RS JR, #28 overall, 4 star, second year starting
RG: CJ Thorpe, RS SO, #89 overall, 4 star, first year starting
RT: Will Fries, RS JR, #434, 3 star, third year starting

PSU hired BC's OL coach yesterday. I saw that BC had 9 all ACC linemen over the last two years. Is that due to good coaching or was it more related to a great running back or a combination of both. Either way it seems like a tough loss for BC.

Just for comparison, 2 of Pitt's offensive coordinators got what most people would say are promotions getting lots more money and a coordinator position with SEC powers Georgia and LSU, Yet some people bring that turnover up

I don't think it the running back because they also only gave up 11 sacks all season.

Leaving a coordinator position for another coordinator position at a different school is still seen as a lateral move when it’s P5 to P5.

Leaving a coordinator position for a HC position is seen as a promotion, regardless of the level.

And you would be wrong. There is nothing lateral about getting a big time raise, perhaps doubling your salary and moving from a P5 school to a blueblood P5.

What you are saying is if the offensive coordinator at say, oh Rutgers was offered double his salary to become the offensive coordinator at Alabama you wouldn't view that as a promotion. Sure . . .

You’re not looking at the average P5 schools with that example, you’re looking at extremes. The average P5 school is not Rutgers or Bama, it’s Pitt. And if the OC at Pitt takes the OC job somewhere else, Pitt looks like a stepping stone to the general public. No one thinks this when an OC takes a head coaching gig, cause the title is different, and everyone will say that he’s looking to take “the next step in his career.”

LSU and Georgia are not average P5 programs - they are bluebloods who are among the four teams that have played in the National Championship game the last 3 years.

I don't believe any rational person would deny that getting a big raise and moving from the offensive coordinator position at Pitt to the offensive coordinator position at Georgia and LSU is a promotion. It is. You are being obtuse if you think it is not a promotion.
