PennLive ran an interesting survey question

Sorry Chains it's not about academics anymore it's about the product on the fields and courts.People don't turn on their TV sets to watch the debate teams.

You're obviously right Pizzaboy. Additionally, I would add they are not mutually exclusive. I would reference the quality of Louisville's incoming class took a positive step change in ACT scores after they joined the ACC. Pitt's egghead administrators live in a fantasy world that Pitt is a "near ivy". Sorry, good public. Want to improve you academic perception? Go Private.

I look forward to WVU in the ACC. I think it is just a matter of time.

Pitt and WVU went to the ACC as a package-together-and it would have happened but Cuse found out and went to Boston College to advocated for them and they were accepted instead of us.

Why advocate for WV? If the shoe were on the other foot do you think they would care if we were spending money and time flying across country to play volleyball? Our admin at the time took care of Pitt, theirs didn't. Could you imagine if it were the other way around? I know for some of you, Pitt can't do anything right, even when it does!

Being in the B-12 has been ok and it was our only home I will always be thankful for them. But frankly the games mean nothing to me. The younger crowd will grow up with thinking the big games are OU/UT but not me. The big games for me Pitt/VT/Cuse/Maimi. Heck I even miss Guido week. But by far the most important game is the brawl. I thought I would really get up for PSU but when it was announced I was ho hum and still am.

That never happened ! Truth is Syracuse and UCONN were a package deal and BC blocked it. Pitt replaced UCONN thanks to BC and not because of any brilliant move by Pitt. We got lucky, and prior to the ACC offer Pitt declined an offer from the Big 12.

Well I am not going to argue with you because it doesn't matter at this point but this it was explained to me and I even read it on your board from one of your big boosters. So I am getting this from both sides

Luck and Pederson approached Marinatto at the annual BE AD meeting and asked him how the football expansion was going.to which Marinatto replied they decided they didn't need to expand (which is why Miami had left) and weren't looking for candidates. Luck and Pederson then decided they would go to the ACC together which they did. The rest is in my earlier post.

Believe it or not WVU is trying really hard to improve their academics.Wvu was created for the needs of WVa residents. It admitted almost all of the applicants who were residents of the state.Lots of these students weren't college material and dropped out but a new bunch took their place every year.Lots of borderline students that could of never got into Pitt or PSU Main got degrees from WVU and prospered in their field. This was what WVU was meant to do and it did.Dr Gee s doing his best to upgrade the academics down here. We'll never get to Pitt and PSU's level but we're getting better.

Based on Penn State's mantra "Pitt's not our Rival... We're Unrivaled....Blah, Blah, Blah " They ran a survey asking what is a bigger rivalry game for Dear 'Ole State: Pitt vs. Penn State or Ohio State vs. Penn State? The results 74.8% of the respondents picked Pitt vs. Penn State.

The missing part? They need to run the survey in Columbus, OH and ask: Who is Ohio State's biggest rival? Michigan or Penn State. I guarantee you that 99.999% of the respondents would answer Michigan.

Given this FACT: I think Pitt and WVU need to focus on cleaning up the unhealthy aspects of their fans in the Rivalry and renew the Pitt - WVU game "Backyard Brawl" on Thanksgiving Weekend. In fact, I think the ACC would be wise to offer WVU admittance to the conference full time.

Pitt and WVU have a great rivalry also and can develop it for the long haul. Let Penn State be "Unrivaled".
Yes, I really don't care if Penn State and Pitt play again and it does bring out Pitt fans but where do they go after the game is played? Almost seems liek the ex-wife who keeps showing up. But I respect the fact that many Pitt fans love the rivalry.

If Pitt-Penn State can be played every year if would be worth bumping West Virginia for. But West Virginia and PItt have only committed to a handful of games

With ooc games, the ACC doesnt need to admit wvu. Pitt can rotate games between Notre Dame, psu and wvu and still maintain " rivalry" with all schools. It's the old "absence makes the heart grow fonder" mantra.

I disagree. Not much fun having no in-conference rivalry.

Who knows? I am not sure if this revenue stream model is sustainable. Football is under attack for its effects. Cable TV is dying. People are going to question more and more as we look on ways to conserve energy, why conferences aren't geographic like they used to be?

Just alot of factors in the next decade or two which will change everything.

One other thing, having Pitt/WVU as a conference rivalry is great for Pitt, great for WVU it is great for the region and interest in college football and it would be great for the ACC to give another marquee matchup.

And WVU has natural rivals with VT and Louisville, Syracuse and even UVa to some extent. I don't know about yinz, I would much rather watch WVU/VT or W VU/Louisville than Wake/NC State or GT/BC.
