behind an under performing Ian Book. Book has two years left. Meaning the earliest Jurkovec sees the field is 2021. Why bother . Graduate and transfer the hell out and play next year.

ND is signing a top 5 QB in this next class too.. nothing wrong with being a backup QB at ND, that's a pretty nice set up.. no pressure, free schooling and the perks that go along with it..

Are you sure about that? ESPN lists Book as a senior and a guy I know was saying last weekend that Jurkovec would likely be starting next year. I assumed he knew what he was talking about.

Book's a redshirt junior; he didn't play as a true freshman in 2016. Notre Dame is just weird in that they don't call players "redshirt" players until they're redshirt seniors.

ND always lists the academic year, not the athletic year. He has one more year.

Agree but that is a lot of money on the table by not getting tape for the NFL.

You get on a NFL team at league min of $450,000ish a year. Stay on a team 4 years as a Back up and not only do you have over $1 million (assuming you save and not spend) after taxes and agent fees etc and you also qualify for the pension at that point. You are still young enough to start your life work way ahead of most people in your age group.

There is no reason why he should settle on being a career ND back up.

Yeah but plenty of things can happen. He can transfer out and book tears his knee in summer camp and now ND has a wide open spot that he could have had if he stayed.

He's stuck behind Book because
1. Book has only lost two games ever as a starter, one basically in a tsunami last week
2. Phil is struggling with his throwing mechanics. He tried to redo his motion and it went poorly so he reverted to his high school style wind up and is still pretty inaccurate.

He is the backup QB at ND who is 2 class years behind the starter. When Book graduates after next year, its Jurkovec is the starter for his last 2 years. I would guess that this is playing out exactly how the Jurkovec family planned. Not many people can say they were a 2 year starter at QB for ND

You don’t go to ND to sit on the bench!
well ND signed a QB last class with offers from Clemson and they have one lined up for this class that is a 4 star guy with offers from every school in the country and a top 5 QB. two of these guys will have to sit on the bench when '21 comes around. I bet if you ask their families, they are preparing for their son to be the starter in '21..

you are right, no one goes to ND to be the back up but guess what, many end up there.

Help me out here...who is the last QB ND or Brian Kelly placed in the NFL? Genuine question.

Great question. he has recruited top QB after top QB and has no NFL starters to show for it. Yet many consider him a great QB coach. not sure why.

Whenever I read threads like these, or the ones about Foster, or any WPIAL stud who goes elsewhere and sits on the bench for a game...

I basically feel link yinz guys think Pitt's recruiting pitch is "come here. We suck. We have no talent and you'll start immediately."

and he treats his QB's like crap, constantly pitting them up against each other and dropping one at the slightest screw-up. The kid who transferred to UCF was supposed to be their next big thing until he wasn't.

Jurkovec looked ok in mop up time. Had a very nice TD drive/pass, but an embarrassingly bad fumble that most likely has a few GIF's made of it already. Thinking he might be another Joe Felitsky, a local guy who gets passed over at ND. He's a big kid but didn't look like he had much zip on the ball but it was a pretty small sample size.

Given that he went to ND and chose to play for Kelly, wouldn't mind a bit if he spends his career there buried on the depth chart. Never understood wishing locals well who went to play for the competition.

I would kill for Pitt to have an average QB and not Kenny "87th out of 92 in Passer Rating among Division 1 QBs with 150+ attampts" Pickett.

major schools recruit a top flight QB every year. Most allot 5 scholarships for the QB position alone. Not sure why any kid doesn’t understand that when they sign. If you don’t want to compete sign where you can win the job or it’s just given to them.

hey, i agree. worse things in life than getting free room and board to hold a clipboard on a sideline with a backwards baseball hat on for four years. sign me up for that.

Uhhh.....graduate in 2 years?

And before we start the “Jurkovec to Pitt” threads, this is the same guy who said Pitt was the most negative recruiter he encountered in the process.

I guess Narduzzi was trying to tell Jurkovec about Kelly and ND and he didn’t like it...

No thanks...
i don't remember that but i'll take your word for it. that's kind of crappy to hear if true though. us doing the negative recruit angle, especially on Notre Dame..

Don’t think he could beat out Kenny for starting QB at Pitt.

Yeah he said Pitt had "the staff that negative recruited the most" and sort of scoffed. if he's telling the truth, not really a smart move considering the popularity of Notre Dame among some local athletes and their parents.

Jurkovec hasn't looked like the next Dan Marino so far but he is only a redshirt freshman and is the 2nd team QB at Notre Dame behind the returning starter and only one play away from being the starter ...... much was expected from him out of high school but I certainly wouldn't call him a flop at this point in time .... let's see how he develops in the next couple years.

Can you provide a link for this? I don't remember this at all.

It was on a CBS Sports interview, not sure how to find the unedited version anymore. It wasn't like a long thing, I think he just said "Pitt was the most negative staff" or something when asked that question (which is probably a not so nice question for a reporter to ask.) Maybe someone else can find it, sorry.

He wanted to goto ND since he was a kid. It was his dream school. No one could have recruited him away. He will never leave, nor should he, nor would I if it were my dream school. Just like Mica Parsons at Penn State. No one could recruit him away. Wouldn’t matter if it were Jimmy franks or you as the head coach.
