What’s the story with Cleveland? They’re in a division race with a young lineup. Is it the name change or something else (e.g. disgust at not increasing payroll)?
I bet the Pitt men had better attendance at Ambrose last night than the pirates did some games this year.
edit: reported attendance last night was 2,000.
The Pirates get less than that for some games. Pitt soccer is also at over 200% capacity
I think more people need to hear about O’Neill Cruz’s exit velocity. Then they’d surely not have attendance similar to college soccer games.

the block C on their hats. Maybe itll change in a few years.
The fact that they are drawing what they are with the product they are putting on the field is flat out amazing to me. They shouldn't be getting 1k a game with this team
Personally, I think the new name is cool but could’ve been much better. Should’ve learned into the ‘Guardian’ identity more, like having an actual mascot instead of using a flying baseball. Obviously, Cleveland fans would’ve been against it either way, but still.
The name Cleveland "Guardians" sucks. It just does. It is one step above Cleveland "babysitters". The Cleveland "Steamers" would have been a better choice. At least that name has some history.
They had a sellout streak from '95 - '01 that I believe held the all-time record for any team as of that time. Those were some pretty loaded (both with talent and steroids) teams.
True dat. I can’t figure out why. The Indians are the only Cleveland team that figures out how to stay relevant almost every year. Having said that, going to a Guardians game is kind of a pain in the ass. Even worse than Pittsburgh. Terrible traffic getting there and home. The parking kind of sucks, especially getting in and out of garages. And the quality of food offerings pales in comparison to PNC. But still, the team is pretty good with some great young players.
I will say not to underestimate the Guardians name though. Lots of irate fans. It started with when they got rid of Chief Wahoo. Now I totally agree that Chief Wahoo had to go. Horribly racist logo. But the Indians name isn’t that bad. While I’m a tiny bit Native American, I don’t identify as such, so maybe my opinion doesn’t really count here. But I was totally fine with the Indians name. Redskins on the other hand…not so much.
Spiders would have been a great choice, and would have had the potential for some great logos.
Guardians is the kind of thing that someone trying way too hard to be clever comes up with.
I think they shot themselves in the foot when they were so late to getting rid of Chief Wahoo. Had they done it much sooner, I think they could’ve spared the ‘Indians’ nickname, similar to the Atlanta Braves.
Technically, the ‘Guardians’ nickname has some history since it pays homage to the Hope Memorial Bridge that’s right across Progressive Field. Had they used those ‘Guardians of Traffic’ as inspiration for a logo, like the below pictures, it would’ve been much better.

Pirates suck, baseball sucks, I almost never watch it ever, but why would you want that? I still love the city of Pittsburgh, and if the Pirates ever make the playoffs, that's the next MLB game that I watch, losing a 140 year old MLB team, with 5 WS Championships, multiple hall of famers and a great history from 1876 to 1992 LOL

As far as Cle - I get there is tradition with the name, and it has no racist intention. But the problem was it’s just incorrect. Imagine how dumb it would look if some folks landed in China, thought they were in Italy, and started calling folks Italians. Then hundreds of years a logo says “Italians” with a Chinese lookin dude on it.

Spiders is great because you could have made them scary, cute, etc... Lots of ways to go with that. And it would have been specific while still being unique. Guardians is vague and stupid.
Their attendance has never really recovered from the fire sale they went thru after that run.
You cannot commit genocide and then name sports teams after the people you murdered. I am sorry that people like to name their teams after Indians but it's simply wrong. Now, if a specific tribe like the Seminoles is ok with it, then ok.
No. And it's not nearly as nice, either. It was built more like New Comiskey Park and less like the intimate venues that came later. They took out entire sections in the upper deck and replaced with those weird boxes to reduce capacity.
They don't. But what they do is show that if (and it's the big IF), they can get him to better recognize pitches and learn what to swing at and what to lay off that he has a chance to reach his huge potential.
They need to get someone working with him on things like pitch recognition and situational hitting, and honestly I don't know that there is anyone on this staff that is up to the task.
