Pitt - 1......Akron - 0

We should have won 3-0. Definitely better than the now 0-5 Akron team.
A few missed opportunities that should have been goals. Overall good play. Clearly Akron isn’t the same Akron. Our current record is 2-3-1.

ACC network is doing a good job with televising. Just need to get commentators to improve.

As crazy as it sounds, Pitt didn't do that badly against WF - although the 2-0 score doesn't reflect it. They created plenty of scoring opportunities but they just couldn't beat a damn good GK. They're definitely going in the right direction.

Nice! I watched Akron play Maryland last week, Maryland won, 1-0. Maryland I believe is #1 though? Akron is loaded with foreign talent. Anyways, I get a Pitt vs. BC game this Friday on Comcast, so I'll get to see them play, but I have to DVR it, My daughter's team is playing right at the same time. LOL. :)

Wow. What happened to Akron?!?!
While I don’t know how this Akron roster compares to last year’s team that lost in the NCAA Final, last year’s Akron start to the season isn’t all that different from this year. Last year in their first 6 games, their only win was a 1-0 win vs Pitt in a game that Pitt had an argument for being the better team or in the very least at the same level.

So I wouldn’t minimize this win by the Panthers. It’s still Akron, and they will likely get better as the year goes along, and if they peak at the right time, they will be right there in the end.

Very good win.

Some non-soccer observations of Urbanic Field watching the ACCN broadcast of the game last night....

It struck me last night, similar to the mistake of placing cameras on the same side of the students when the Pete was built, Urbanic's primary camera angle excludes any notion of a crowd since the angle is focused on the side opposite of the stands. Prior to the ACCN, I recollect Pitt bringing more of the crowd in the stands into frame in the lower part of the screen, but maybe I'm just imaging that. It also means the big turf Pitt logo at midfield on the stand side is almost never seen on camera. A field flip at some point may be a good idea unless they can create a short section of stands to hold an energized student fan club section opposite and extending along the existing camera setup. Yes, I understand the press box is on top of the stands making any change to the camera set up difficult unless something is built on the non-stands side or the top of the baseball stands to house cameras.

I do like the new field's stripping and the new video board looks great.

However, as currently framed by cameras, the big empty wall on the Pitt baseball batting/equipment facility needs a giant Pitt logo for soccer (and future women's lax) broadcasts. It is currently a big empty space that is begging for something for these broadcasts, because frankly, the building just looks like a big unattractive concrete block. Which leads to my next point.

This isn't a new thought, but on camera, the stone material used to line the walls of the Petersen Sports Complex looks like cheap concrete blocks. This is true in Cost Field too. That is unfortunate because it is not cheap concrete blocks when you see it in person. But some time in the future they should consider resurfacing the walls with something more aesthetically pleasing to the camera and more representative of the campus aesthetics. After all, these sports are going to be on national TV more and more thanks to the ACCN and these images represent the entire campus for many that might view them. Would faux limestone blocks mimicking the Cathedral look better? I don't know, limestone blocks may need some more texture than that but it currently looks cheaper than it really is on broadcasts and doesn't allude to really any significant campus architecture. But I think it is in the university's best interest to have something more attractive here as these are the only outdoor athletic venues that will get sustained camera time.

15 foreign players on the team. They did have some opportunities. I question our goalie, boy did he have some close calls. The Akron pressure on our defense when we played out the back was aggressive and made me a bit nervous when the ball was at the goalie's feet. Once the ball hit the mid field we were very dominating. Lots of scoring opportunities, a questionable offsides, one poor angled run that should have been a goal and a lazy trailing run that would have been a goal. I'd say Pitt dominated the game for sure, and really seemed to have some solid midfield.

This isn't just a Pitt camera placement issue or ACC Network issue. I've now watched about 20 games both male and female college games on ACC network and other networks. Every game appeared to have the cameras placed above the crowd and never showing the fans except an occasional head that gets in the way. I think much of this is because the sideline with the team benches don't have anywhere to place the camera above. They don't have a boom or observation option behind the bench. There are cameras on the ground that sometimes get the fans, but usually very limited.

Maryland soccer stadium has fans visible. of course they have an 8000 capacity and seats all around the field. The place was pretty full for Akron.

What is really awesome. The fact ACC Netwotk has so many soccer games televised.

Was watching Clemson Fordham game last night. Watched a few others the past 2 or 3 weeks. I love watching the Olympic sports on the ACCn. They have done a good job.

But now it’s part of my YouTube tv and means it’s on my channel list and always available.
I had it all last year, but decided not to pay or change anything, I guess I'll get it back eventually? I'm in no rush. I'm not going to jump every time they say jump.

Really nice road win to start the weekend against a solid Boston college team
I watched that game, Pitt played really well, won 2-0.

I was stunned by the "stadium" and "crowd", it was comparable to girls Class C high school stadiums and crowds, and community college games in my area. My daughter high school stadium is bigger. Surrounded with trees! Just like some of the high school stadiums I'm talking about.
