Pitt 24 Referees 12

Are you going to mention those 2 BS personal foul calls against GT in the first quarter, on possessions we scored on?

Didn’t think so. If those calls had been against Pitt this board would’ve gone into free fall.

The second one was a good call. You’re not gonna get away with hitting a guy who’s running out of bounds especially a quarterback in today’s football. I don’t care what the announcer said

I hate it when ignorant fans blame referees for being out to get their poor team and coaches. It’s a crock of $hit. So some objectivity is in order. Those first two late hit calls were garbage and put us in scoring position both times. I wonder what they think of the refereeing on the GT board.

I’m glad we got the win-we needed of bad. But maybe some of you that want to blame the refs for making this a closer game should look elsewhere for the explanation-like the 3 point second half offensive explosion.
Sometimes the refs just suck. They certainly did today. GT could have been called for false start on pretty much every offensive play. I think they called 1. On Pickett's int there was clear pass interference on the DB and he never turned for the ball while running into the Pitt WR trying to come back to the ball. You hit a guy OB or a QB clearly going OB and it's a penalty. The guys in stripes suck ass today.

You must be a real hit at parties

i wouldn't have called either but they were both close. There was two or three other late hits that could have been called. I thought the non PI call was bad and the missed holding call on the return horrible. They also called some questionable holds on Pitt. Overall the Ref's weren't horrible but I did think Pitt got almost all the calls go against them in the 2nd half

The refs missed much altogether, but missed many more important calls affecting Pitt.

Also, did the GT QB actually even cross the plane on that first TD they were given (after the officials review)? It wasn't shown again at the stadium after the TD was called.

The one was pretty obvious, they called him out of bounds there, you can’t proceed to hit someone after that.

The one where Pickett was about to be out of bounds though, really bad call. I get that he’s a qb, but no way is anyone even considering throwing a flag if that was a rb, because there was absolutely nothing unnecessary about it.

The problem with the first one is that our player continued running as if he was still in bounds. What is the defender supposed to do there, just let him go in the hope that either the official calls him out or that if he doesn't you get a correct replay review to move the ball back? He was in bounds and tiptoeing the line when he got hit. Not a penalty.

The one on Pickett was even worse. He wasn't out of bounds yet when he got hit. What happens if the defender backs off and Pickett plants his foot and cuts up field? Then the defender looks like an idiot and his coaches are going to let him have it. And rightly so. He has to make that hit there to make sure that Pickett goes out of bounds.

I thought the personal foul penalties on GT were bad calls

That said the non PI call on the flea flicker play was awful. They missed a blatant holding call on the return as well

The face mask penalty was not bad but marginal

There were people on here yesterday that actually thought the late hit on Pickett was a good call.

The refs were lousy for both sides in my opinion.

For some reason PITT fans always seem to think PITT gets screwed by the officials every football and even basketball games.

I always say if the officials are bad they're bad for both teams.

If you were at the game watching the big screen replays most of the calls especially the calls that were challenged went the right way!

No problem with the facemask call, missing the blatant cheap shot by the GT lineman on Weaver at the end of the play was bad.

I agree, especially on the Pickett one. Like I said, no way it’s called if that’s a back or receiver. Just because it’s a qb, doesn’t mean the runner (as we’ve seen with Pickett) has to have a qb’s mindset running the ball. Like you just mentioned, could change his mind last second and cut up field. I kind of laughed and smiled at the same time when we got that one.

The first one though, kind of a gray area where the offensive player has a huge advantage and idk what they can even do about that. It’s very unfair to the defender, but I’ve seen that penalty in very similar situations called a lot. To the officials it’s basically the same as blowing the whistle when a qb is wrapped up, then he spins out and runs a few steps and gets clocked, penalty called.

You may not agree with the call on Pickett but you’ll see that penalty again. They’re not going to let someone launch themselves into a player sprinting out of bounds.

We see that play 25 times every single game and that’s the first time I’ve ever seen it called.

If they start calling that you will have players faking going out of bounds and it will make the game a farce.

I’m not saying it’s good for the game but we’re going to see that call again.

Clearly a penalty...your anti-Pitt ...fan Pitt fan nonsense not withstanding.

I would guess you call yourself a "realist"...the rest of us say asshat or hater.

I'll put both my "Pitt fandom" and my knowledge of the game up against yours any day of the week.

Being a Pitt fan does not require you to be an uninformed homer.

That identical play happens in every game multiple times, I don’t see how they could continue to call that without entirely changing the way the game is played.

What are the chances that he's one of the guys that if that call went against Pitt he'd have been jumping up and down screaming about how the refs are always out to screw us?

I resist the urge to be a homer, but if that same call went against Pitt in a key situation I would probably lose it. It was the strangest call I saw all weekend, which is saying something.

I did question the head linesman especially on the hold on KP's interception, he did say he missed it and would be told about it on the re-evaluation, he did ask if he was held and turned and my answer was absolutely.

I also thought the PI call on Ford was really weak especially given the non call on the flea flicker
