Pitt at UNC

I am concerned about UNC RB that's for sure... dude is a different animal. AJ Dillon like style attack on the ground, and I truly don't know if UNC runs him 25+ times how Pitt will stop it. UNC will win if they slow this game down to a time of possesion offensive approach. I'm not overly concerned with the QB's ability to make consistent throws.

It will definitely be a contrast in game management for sure - I think Pitt will have their successes on offense, but I need to see more consistency.
They won't slow it down to a TOP game, and it won't really matter anyway. Pretty sure we've lost TOP in every game, and lost it by a very wide margin against YSU.

Their QB is gonna have to make throws. Probably a safe assumption that we'll stack the box against the run and make them throw to win. If Pitt stacks the box and they still have success running... its gonna be a long day.

I worry most about a letdown. On the road as a slight favorite after starting 4-0. We've had one road game and came out sleep walking.

Oh please. You'd be citing National Enquirer headlines if they supported your position on something.
At least I don't cite someone who heard from someone who heard that Holstein should be a tight end.

A couple of weeks ago, Saban said Holstein was a good quarterback and he should know as he recruited him.

Twain was right.

I said that Bud Elliot stated on the Cover 3 Podcast that he heard from within the Alabama circle that multiple coaches on that staff thought he would never play QB and should consider a conversion to H Back. Would you like a link to the video?

And you don't believe in stats (per above), but you actually think Nick Saban was going to give him anything but praise and/or platitudes on GameDay? Holy smokes, man.

I mean, he's been worthy of compliments thus far. But let's please not start validating him by what a guy who had him on the 5th string last year said about him on a TV show.

Should be another great game!

I am headed there with my fam if anyone else is. would love to meet up.

UNC looks pretty good, QB is electric as usual, and good skill players, they played a half well on d, but they have one really good CB, and the rest have been suspect. basically, same UNC type team, good athletes, can win any game, can lose any game. I think this Pitt team is more equipped to win than last year, typically need to shoot it out.

Just got my tix today. We'll be heading up SAt Am from Charlotte.

If you are taller than 5,9” prepare to be very uncomfortable at Kenan
6'6 Yup was miserable last time we went and made more miserable when Mitch beat the Panthers on the last play of the game..........................

Anyone who knows our history with this team should not be overconfident about this game. I don't think they will be dwelling on their prior games. They will be thinking about righting the ship against an undefeated team in their home stadium. It is up to us to get off to a good start and put the pressure on them. If we don't, we are asking for trouble.

Carolina has more talent overall. Pitt has to actually coach something different on d vs them.

In other words, exactly what I said.

Don't pretend to know what I think. You aren't at my level.

UNC is always a tough matchup for Pitt, especially on the road. I expect no different this time. This is a great test for the new coaches on staff on how to prepare for a team following a bye week. I feel confident they'll have a good plan in place, just against a tough opponent.

I think Pitt's offense is a work in progress. They got the job done in crunch time against their 2 real opponents, but it sure didn't come easy.
The work in progress is much more on the defensive side for Pitt IMO.

Great ... in other words, you are saying UNC will throw 10 deep balls and get PI calls on 6 of them.

Im not worried about a let down. This team seams different (ie the comebacks and the blow out of YSU). I think they'll be fired up for the first big Conference game away.

I feel good about Pitt winning this one with relative ease but being a PItt fan you just never know

There are certain teams like FSU, UF, UNC, etc. that you have on quit watch.

You almost can’t even go by recruiting rankings, or how they played in Week 1, Week 2, etc., because it doesn’t matter.

They will be a shell of themselves by the time you play them. Is that this week for UNC? I don’t know. But after last week I could see it being.

Last weeks loss had to be crushing for them (Stealing defeat from the jaws of victory) against the cross town rival. Will be interesting to see how they respond.

I agree completely. Will they come out fired up trying to rally around a coach to be out the door or will they fold with a back up QB. Turnovers and PI calls are going to be huge in this game. If Pitt can get ahead early I really like our chances. If we get down or its close through halftime this may be like a lot of our recent visits to UNC.

Two weeks ago is when Brown got the team together and asked them if he was problem, because if he was, he was going to quit.

The Duke game was the “let’s go out there and win one for Mack-er” game. And they surrendered a 20-0 second half lead to one of their two rivals.

I've seen games at a shit load of college football stadiums, and Kenan is my least favorite. I just find it really sterile and boring, in addition to being uncomfortable.
And can be ultra hot if you sit in the visitor's section - like I did 3 times.

I hate that stadium.

I am very worried about this game. I almost wish they beat Duke last week. This is shaping up as another team with their season lost finding it for one game. Our record down there is horrid. All the emotions that will be played on with Helene's victims. It's a classic set up game. And it is so important because if we could somehow win, it sets us up really to have potential fantastic season. When was the last time we were 5-0? As the dude said in Platoon.....

The team still has talent and Pitt still needs to respect the opponent -- UNC of all opponents needs feared given our ACC track record with them. I still have nightmares of that BC game where Addazio was on his way out the door and AJ Dillion ran all over us. Or Syracuse against us last year shortly before Babers was fired, that had the TE at QB. Plenty of examples of Pitt losing to a team where the coach was on his last legs.

I expect this to be a very tough game to win. JMU got a ton of quick point off turnovers in the first half and then UNC had to play much more risky on offense causing additional turnovers. The Duke game is a rivalry game where anything can happen. This is still a very hard game on the road where we have historically crapped the bed.

It is supposed to be sunny and 80 on Saturday. Those seats under the upper deck look pretty attractive. I am 6'5 and going to the game so I'll look like origami in my seat. Hopefully I can find an aisle seat. Its not sold old yet and ticket prices are falling, even though its homecoming. I'll likely wait until Saturday morning to pick up my ticket.

All that might be true.
My only point was that this week is not the circle the wagons game.
Last week, coming off the JMU embarrassment and Brown almost quitting in the locker room and the team telling him he isn’t the problem and not to quit, was the rally around the coach game.

And they still lost. So if Pitt loses, it isn’t because UNC is having their Disney moment.

Yup if anything they way they lost to Duke was one of those soul crushing losses that cause a team to start doubting. In addition it looks like the fan base is starting to abandon the team so the crowd won’t be all that supportive

I also don’t expect Pitt to come out flat. I think this team is a bit different and is looking for respect.

I’ve been fooled by Pitt many times in my life so it’s likely I could be fooled again. But I have pretty good vibes about this one. I think Eli and company are going to have a very productive day

I think it's probably a bit too early for quit watch for UNC. If they had national championship aspirations and racked up two losses, sure. But they're still 3-2. If they come out and experience early success, they'll more than likely be completely engaged.

That could be true too. To me they are on quit watch, as this is obviously Brown’s last season as we are watching the wheels come off in real time.

When the game occurs that we all officially say, “they have all completely quit,” I’m not sure. That’s difficult to predict.

I think they're probably teetering to a point where if we get up on them early they could quit. But I suspect we could get a very inspired effort from them out of the gate. It'll be about weathering that. In my opinion anyway.

Brown has been terrible there and Pitt's QB a gamer, but
Pat's 2-6 vs them and yielded 40+ the last 2 yrs.
Pitt hasn't won in Chapel Hill in like forever. Maybe ever?
UNC +2.5

Remember that UNC WRs are perennially masters at getting away with push-offs. They will likely hit a couple TD bombs using this tactic.

I still think Pitt wins.

Go Pitt.
