Pitt at UNC

Get off the Schneid!

Paul Dickson, The Dickson Baseball Dictionary, third edition (2011) has the following entries for schneid and schneider:

schneid A game, series of games, or period during which a team has been shut out or a batter has gone hitless.
schneider To shut out. ... ETYMOLOGY. According to Harold Wentworth and Stuart Berg Flexner (Dictionary of American Slang, 1960), the term came originally from the German and Yiddish "schneider" for one who cuts cloth, or a tailor. On its way to baseball, it appears to have become a gin rummy term for preventing an opponent from scoring a point in a game or match.

Kamara and Hayes were troublemakers at Pitt.
See ya.
I’ll have to take your word on Kamara. But Hayes beat his gf and was a general pain in the ass about NIL. Hayes may have helped bolster our DL this year, but no one was going to confuse him with a Pat Jones or Ejuan Price either.

And now Kamara has opted to RS and transfer from South Carolina. Good luck to him. I’ll stick with Louis and Biles.
He didn't get much playing time at USCe, and I feel he wouldn't have gotten much playing time this year if he had stayed at Pitt.

It will be interesting to see where he suits up for in his 6th year. I say, "suits up" because if he's planning on staying in the P4, I'm not convinced that he will get much playing time anywhere.

Hayes was more hype based on potential than actual production. He probably would have been better than the dude they got from Clemson but he also would have been a distraction in the locker room Sam O from what I can tell isn’t setting the world on fire at UC either. I suspect he’ll transfer out at the end of the year.

No, he wouldn't have "probably" been better; he would have been better. What did he do in the locker room that makes you so confident he would have been a distraction? I know he had an off the field incident, but I'm curious what you know that makes you claim he would have been a distraction in the locker room.

It’s always a rationalization.
More talent is always a good thing

The offense may not always bail the defense out .

On the way out he said he didn’t think the team was good enough to win. Do you think a guy who isnt team first which is the culture Pitt has would be “ good “ in the locker room?

There’s a guy in Pittsburgh who says we want volunteers not Hostages

Hayes would have helped, but there is only so much NIL money. He apparently got several bumps in NIL and kept coming back for more. There comes a point where you tell them go.

Kamara and DeShields weren't needed, that much is pretty clear by now.

Good on Beamer for making that public. This stuff needs to happen and get out there so the risk begins entering the decision process.

The one who hasn't won a playoff game in almost 9 years? Hayes led the ACC in pressure rate last season. The dude from Clemson can't get on the field even though the d-line depth is paper thin. The fact that we were willing to give Hayes multiple NIL bumps should tell you how much he was valued. I don't care what he said after he left the team; he would be a welcomed addition to this defense.

So with Hayes would we be more undefeated by now ? Would the defense have given up less than 17 points to UNC ?

I didn't realize it was a 5-game season and there isn't any room for improvement. If we go 9-3 and lose two one-score games, will I be allowed to say that Hayes might have made a difference?

It is what it is, and obviously he left the team in a doofus fashion. But let's not pretend like his presence would not be welcomed or that he and the Clemson dude, who will likely be finishing his football career at a lower level, are tit for tat.

Pitt won 3 games with Hayes last year. Just saying. So it’s debatable how much if any difference he’d make this year

And the Angels have been below .500 for nine seasons in a row with Mike Trout, six of which included Ohtani - two of the best players in baseball history. Would you like 9,000 other examples as to why your statement makes no sense, or can we stop at that one?

It's almost as if this isn't an individual sport or something.

Here's a fun one:

Pitt's records by season with Curtis Martin, the NFL's 6th all time rushing leader:

6-5
3-9
3-8
3-8

But yeah - let's throw the baby out with the bathwater as we struggle to understand the concept of nuance.

Hayes aint no Curtis Martin Talent...................Those 10 tackles and 1 sack are quite impressive though.

And that's a straw man. Your insinuation was that Hayes sucks because the team was 3-9 with him here. So Curtis Martin, who had 607 touches while at Pitt, must really suck under that logic. Of course, the only thing that sucks in this case is your logic.

My argument is Hayes is an incremental improvement at BEST. He wont sniff the NFL. Glad to help the helpless

Hmm, okay. Cause the dude you compared him to can't even sniff the ACC. Might want to tell Pitt they're dummies for offering Hayes multiple lucrative NIL deals then.

UDFA at best. There are literally dozens of Hayes in CFB who have better motors and are More consistent If he hadn’t been at Pitt no one would know who he is
So long odds ?
Sounds you’d pay out at least 10-1 ?

We would regardless - he was a local star who won played for Westinghouse and made the playoffs as a city league program .
