Pitt Baseball sweeps E. Michigan

Nice start to the year. We are 5-0 against mid-majors and 1-1 against high majors so the competition hasnt been great but Pitt doesn't always win these games as we know so this is a good sign.

Indiana State won the Missouri Valley Conference last year and got to the Midwest regional. Pitt pounded them in the opener.

This team is filled with JUCO players including Jordan Anderson, who is the highest rated player to ever play at Pitt. A far different team from last year.

They wont tear up the ACC, but they will be much better than last year.

The outfield, specifically, has the chance to be one of the better ones in the ACC with Hess, Anderson, and Popa. The fact that it allows Washington to move full-time to DH has been huge so far. Anderson's hitting hasn't translated yet, but you can see the speed on defense and on the basepaths.

Pitching has held up for the most part, too, which was where most of my preseason question marks were. Corcoran has looked like a #1, and the two JUCO kids in Gilbertson and Myers have been more than capable so far, too.

Hard to ask for a better start to the year - even the loss to a ranked Ohio State team with a stud starter in Lonsway wasn't too bad. New threads look great, too.

Well Pitt pounded their own former player, Colin Liberatore from GCC who never could make the rotation for Pitt so its not like they beat a high level pitcher. Good to hear the team is improved though

He was the primary mid-week starter as a true freshman, and then took a redshirt year. That's not too bad - and then had an excellent junior year and was named first team all conference for a team that made the NCAA tournament. Didn't even have a terrible game in the regional against the future CWS winner Vanderbilt - 4 runs over 6.1 innings with 8 strikeouts.

I dont remember him pitching much at all for Pitt but I don't follow the team too closely. I remember wondering why he wasnt pitching. How many games did he pitch?
