Pitt/Clemson— where were you when the kick went through the uprights?

@bayardstreet was unsure how to post a personal video, so I created this link. This is him capturing the game winner from his seat in Death Valley. A pretty cool experience for sure. I’m sure others have a story. What’s yours?

I was on the other side in the Pitt section. I didn't realize there were Pitt sections on each side. FWIW, that was probably the most Pitt fans I've ever seen at a non-local away game. I also have a video from that kick is pretty wild. I was going crazy and in the commotion I must have kicked my kid's water bottle and we never found it. My wife was like "you made us lose a $30 water bottle." I said "why would you pay $30 for a water bottle."

Walking out of the stadium, it was like a morgue. The Clemson people were very nice and congratulated me like a million times which was weird. This couple got into a very loud argument over the game. The wife was saying he shouldn't take it so hard, its just a game, etc. They were going back and forth and then he stormed off without her. Classic stuff.

Best thing about that night is if Clemson scored 40+, everyone gets a free Bojangles sandwich. I mean how can you beat a Clemson W in Death Valley and free Bojangles. Man, its making me wang to go again.

I was at the game! Near top of stadium, more to the right. Best night ever. There was a guy with our trip who took video which we were in but he wasn't sure how to send it to me. I was hoping this was it. Clemson fans were so nice I asked if they were give us a beer if we beat them, I did get one on the way back. My most favorite trip, wonder if we can pull this off again Saturday. I had tickets down below but sold/traded them to someone to sit up high with our group. I missed getting on the field, they allow fans on for a period of time after a game. If I would have known.

That’s awesome.

myself I was in a bar with a few other hardcore Pitt fans. I had that exact moment on video too but I couldn’t find it to share here. My kids HS team had won a huge game that day in the state playoffs (on the way to a state title) and a bunch of us were already celebrating in a local establishment. The Pitt win was the cherry on top of a great day. It’s a day I’ll never forget.

Same side of field as you but on 50 yard line suite with my son and 40 Clemson boosters. As soon as ball went through uprights I looked at him and we looked at the angst on all Clemson faces and ran out of the suite. A It was AWESOME! My only regret is we didn’t go down on the field...

Forgot we went on the field after. Man, that was awesome. Got some unbelievable pictures.

Many thanks to FKThomas for his technical assistance. I told him I haven’t cut and pasted since the second grade. Paper and glue back in the day.

my family and I drive back to Atlanta after the game as we were there visiting my son. That was the best two hour car ride I can ever recall. I stopped after the exiting traffic jam at a Wendy’s on interstate 85 and bought 5 large chocolate frosty’s. When we got back to mid town Atlanta I dumped the wife off at the condo and headed across the street to a place called World of Beers for a victory mug of suds

Same side as you, was fairly low in the section but it was still way up. Those steps / seats were pretty steep.

I was sure he was going to make it. Blewitt like Kessman was money on the long ones. Expected to catch some sh!t leaving the stadium, but kudos to the Clemson fans as they were classy.

We thought Pitt lost, but listened on the radio as we drove to dinner from Greensburg to the Main St Wine Bar, in Stahltown. Sat in the parking lot as the kick was good. Had a great celebratory dinner with wine.

Sitting around 15 yard line upper deck (man is clemson stadium steep up there) towards the side blewitt was kicking. Clemson fans were the best. They were super nice before the game and extremely nice after. Offering congrats. It was funny, got back to the hotel just north of clemson (I forget the city) and all of the hotel workers were offering congrats and asking about my experience. Outside of covid, I will do every subsequent trips to clemson. Great experience all around.

Also was never offered more free alcohol that day walking around the stadium. It was great.

I think 4 friends and I are right beside guy that took first video. We have a video thats pretty good as well. I need to find and post. Best game and night we have ever experienced on the road by far. Never forget that one

In Hawaii watch the first half but once they were trailing at the half went to the beach. Walked into a bar just as the kick goes through the uprights. People are in the bar saying Holy Shit can you believe that and I was going crazy.

In the end zone also. My wife wouldn’t watch. She had her eyes covered and wouldn’t stand. I told her to stand up and watch because this kick is going to be good. I will never forget the look on her face when it went through. In typical Pitt fashion while I was celebrating with everyone else I paused and somehow convinced myself Clemson would return the kick for a touchdown. I didn’t truly celebrate until we tackled the kick returner.

We returned to our hotel in Greenville and went out. The streets were definitely subdued. When we were entering a restaurant for dinner a group of Clemson fans were leaving. One of the men in the group said to me “ thanks, you guys are the reAson we are going home early tonight”. They were very nice about it. We also went on the field and I have a picture in front of the hill and scoreboard with my wife. I had it framed and it is a prized photo in my man cave. It was a great day!

Superb story.

We were on the same side of the field with the goalposts on our right. Couldn't tell from the angle if the kick was good and could only tell because the Pitt band members in that endzone were the only ones celebrating.

I credited the win to the random Clemson fan who came up to me before the game and handed me an Iron City to drink as we walked to the stadium.

I have video of the end of the game celebration in the Pitt section. Is there an easy way to upload or do I need to create a link?

We were in the second row on the 20 yard line nearest the goal part of the winning kick behind the Pitt bench. I was just happy that Pitt hung with Clemson with a couple minutes left. Then the unthinkable happened. What a great day and win. Maybe someday in the near future a win like that will actually mean something for Pitt in the national standings. It was a great memory, but in the long run, really didn't mean much for Pitt.

Post the video!

You weren’t there or you would post it

We had a similar angle and could only tell they made it when blewitt started jumping up and down.

Pitt side. Upper deck about halfway up. 35 yard line or so.

Great trip and game. Wonderful experience.

A couple of other things about that trip that I’ll always remember:

We stayed outside of Greenville. There were a bunch of us from our tailgate group who stayed there. Nice motel. But several months earlier one of the guys from the group asked all of us at a Pitt home game tailgate if we were interested in a charter bus service that ran from a Home Depot parking lot near our motel, to the game and back.

We needed I think 30 people minimum to charter the bus. Cost was like maybe $35 each? Anyway it was a very reasonable price all things considered. We had no problem getting the required number to sign up. (We have a pretty big tailgate group and a lot of them went to Clemson). BEST IDEA EVER!

It was like having our own party bus. Full of Pitt fans. Getting into the campus and parking areas at Clemson on game day is difficult due to location of the campus and the traffic congestion. But the bus had a designated parking spot. It stayed there all game. So we brought our own food and beverages and tailgated before the game. Then of course, afterwards! Having a designated driver, we partied all the way back to the Home Depot lot. Took a couple of hours for the bus to get back the 30 or 40 miles or so with all the traffic. But being on the bus we didn’t have a care in the world!

The other thing was on Sunday morning another couple we travelled with went into downtown Greenville to look around. Very nice smaller city. While the wives were in a shop my friend and I walked around outside and bumped into Chancellor Gallagher and his wife. We had Pitt gear on so they stopped and greeted us. We chatted for a good 5 minutes about the game and some of the other nice ACC trips and venues. (I had also seen him at a Duke game).

So it was a memorable trip. As well as a fun one and a tremendous win. Hope to do it again when normalcy returns. The people and the crowds make it a lot more fun, IMO.

I spend most Saturday's at my dad's place watching CFB with him and my brother. Traditionally, we have a cigar on the swing at halftime of the 3:30 game. I was watching updates on my phone and at the end of the 3rd I told him that Pitt had a chance to still win. We caught the kick in his living room. Moments later my friends and I decided we would go to a bowl if it was close to home. Pinstripe Bowl was a good time despite the result. My dad posts on here occasionally too.

I was at the very prestigious Indiana University of Pennsylvania because one of my best friends from home, was to turn 21 that night and was having a get together. I’d say by kickoff most of us were already half in the bag and others had started to come over to start the night a little earlier. People keep pouring in.

By the fourth quarter that apartment was shoulder to shoulder, with a few of us standing around the TV watching. When the interception with six mins left and yelling holy ****. Some girl who was a friend of a friend came up to me and asked when the game was over to let me know if they had won so she could text her dad congrats or some sad faces because he was such a big fan. Needless to say, she worked her way back over for the final possession. Kick goes through I told her some about being a good luck charm. Turned out to be a really fun night and fast forward a few years and we got married this past summer.

Best story of the DECADE!!

At a tasting party at Boyd and Blair Vodka listening on phone. High giving with Craig Gob when the kick was good.

I was in a suite at the Arena for the Pens-Leafs game. I was a guest, via a good friend in the beer business, of North Country. Watched the first half of the game on the computer and then TV waiting for my friend, then listened on the radio in the car on the way down to the Arena. When we got to the suite, I switched the TV to the Pitt game and enjoyed a few North Country beers. Several others joined in watching the game but as faceoff approached, the TV was switched to the Pens game. We took our seats and another Pitt fan I had been chatting with sat right behind me. We were both trying to follow the game on our phones but I was having trouble getting it on mine. The other guy told me they were lining up for the kick and then he said "he made it" and I couldn't believe it. We high-fived and I had a smile on my face the rest of the night.

In Barcelona, woke up and read PITT won...completely shocked, had to check it again, and again...

Checked emails and it was like a birthday...fans from all over, celebrating with the good news!

Eventually saw all the replays of the game, and marveled at how well we played...the winning FG, Conner’s great stiffarm, the long INT return...all great highlights!

As always, proud to be an alum!

Hail to PITT!

Grew up in Pittsburgh, and now live in SC. I had my three best friends from home come down for golf and football. We were sitting in a friends (former Clemson player) seats. I will always treasure my pic with Blewitt on the field after the game! .
