I posted this in another thread... but I think it needs its own thread.

Here's the first 29 games of every Pitt head coach since Sherrill:

Narduzzi: 17-12 (11-5 in ACC)
Chryst: 16-13 (6-9 in BE/ACC)
*Graham: 6-7 (4-3 in BE)
Wannstedt: 13-16 (6-9 in BE)
Harris: 11-18 (5-12 in BE)
Majors 2: 8-21 (4-12 in BE)
Hackett: 12-16-1 (no conf)
Gottfried: 16-12-1 (no conf)
Fazio: 18-10-1 (no conf)

There is little to zero doubt that Narduzzi is the best Pitt head coach since Sherrill. Fazio's record is slightly better in his first 29, but he inherited a Top-5 team with Dan Marino at QB from Sherrill.

Patience.

If you're calling for Narduzzi's head, it is time to step away from following sports for a bit. There are things wrong in your life that need to be fixed - most likely, your mental health.

Amen Brother.

Id add that since wanny no coach has had bigger wins without any mind boggling losses and has actually had a decent record the first two years.

anyone who can watch the game on Saturday and not believe that massive changes are in order are the ones with mental health issues. If Saturday was an aberration then I could see taking that mindset; Saturday was an accurate portrayal of Pitt's defense the last 16 games. You would seriously have to wonder if major high school powers would have done better against Ok State's offense. I really can't remember watching a P5 defense get completely destroyed like that.

And again it wasn't an aberration Pitt's pass defense was a nationwide laughing stock last season too, it was just that some of us thought it would get better this season. Not worse. And if he has better players on the bench why in God's name is he not playing them? Getting humiliated and laughed at in front of everyone doesn't do much for recruiting.

One game doesnt make or destroy a program...........hiring the wrong coach can

Just this saturday...

- Louisville (a P5 defense).... gave up 613 yards and 47 points at home against Clemson. And while Clemson is a better team than OkSt, OkSt is a better offense with a an experienced QB (not a QB in his first road game like Clemson)

-- The Fightin' Matt Canadas of #12 LSU (a P5 defense).... gave up 465 yards (285 rushing) against unranked Mississippi State.

- The Fightin' Scott Barnes' of Oregon State (a P5 defense).... gave up 431 yards passing and 52 points to unranked Washington State.

- The #25 UCLA Bruins (a P5 defense).... gave up 560 yards and 48 points to non-P5 Memphis.

- The BC Eagles (a P5 defense).... gave up 611 yards (515 rushing) at home to Notre Dame.

- The Fightin' Fraud Grahams of ASU (a P5 defense).... gave up 615 yards (543 passing) and 52 points against Texas Tech.

- Illinois (a P5 defense).... gave up 680 yards and 47 points to non-P4 South Florida.

- Missouri (a P5 defense).... gave up 577 yards and 35 points *AT HOME* to freaking Purdue.

Those were all just *THIS* weekend.... and with the possible exception of Louisville, NONE of those teams played a team with an offense like Oklahoma State's.

If you haven't seen P5 defenses that were completely embarrassed, it is because you aren't watching *ANY* college football except for Pitt games.

Yes... big changes need to be made.... but Narduzzi is the guy to MAKE the changes - he is not ONE OF the changes, like your idiotic post said.

did any of those schools give up 7 touchdowns and 49 points in one half of football? And that really doesn't even tell you had bad it was and how easy OK State made it look.

OK State could have scored 100 points and gotten 1000 yards of total offense on Saturday had their coach wanted to be a dk. Pitt would have NEVER stopped them on defense, that is how pathetic a display it was.

Oklahoma State is going to do that to a lot of teams this year, not just Pitt.

There's no doubt about it that it was a horrendous defensive performance from Pitt. But you have to have perspective.... Calling for Narduzzi's resignation is the height of NOT having perspective.

lets review;

1) A large number of defensive players on Saturday were Chryst recruits. Most of them are smurfs....and all of them has competing offers from such powerhouses as William and Mary, Western Michigan, Eastern Illinois and Villanova.

2) The most experienced players from Narduzzi's recruiting classes are redshirt sophomores

3) I cant imagine a more prolific passing offense in the country let alone on our schedule.

the OP is correct, and you are whining.

As I stated in an earlier post......when Hamlin came in (and the game was out of hand)...we saw the foundation of our future defense (along with Camp, Pine, Watts, etc) . And it is abundantly clear that this defense is going to be stout in the next year or two. Anyone who is selling Narduzzi short will be eating crow.

It sucks to have to be patient.....but the past disastrous decisions are in play for now......but they too will fade.

Narduzzi is the coach to elevate this program and he will.

PS. I will repeat myself....his biggest challenge is to find a playmaking quarterback.

Hey I hope you are right with regards to the defense.

I like Duzz and stated it many times over my constant bickering about Pitt the past 2 weeks. As much as I like Duzz and think he is a good fit for Pitt, and I do not want a new coach because A) I believe Duzz needs time to get his recruits to be more experienced, B) just for stability reasons , and C) I don't trust the administration to make a good hire so we could end up with someone way worse.

With all that said, I believe this is a huge OFF Season for Duzz. No I am not talking about recruiting either, though that is important. Everything I need to know about Duzz and the new administration is the coaching staff. Some of these guys need to go, they are not up to snuff. I respect loyalty but I will be pissed if Duzz is loyal to a fault and keep a few of these bums. The administration also better be willing to pay for some top assistant coaches. I know we cannot afford $1.5 million on coordinators but Pitt should be paying top 1/4 in the ACC for coordinators and other assistant coaches.

Unless he wants to lose his job he can't afford to be loyal to some of these assistants who are not getting the job done.

Well let's be honest here. I watched Okky st's first two games against Tulsa and S Alabama. They scored on us MUCH MUCH easier than they did against those two teams. On the road I might add.

There's no excuse for this defense to be this bad in year 3

Don't you know? Some people on here are okay with mediocrity. It can be year 5 and the defense will still look terrible and about half of the people on here will make excuse after excuse as to why and how lucky we are to have Narduzzi. It is what it is here.

Not really:

Tulsa: 640 yards, 59 points
S. Alabama: 505 yards, 44 points
Pitt: 676 yards, 59 points (52 by offense)

They've pretty much scored at will against all three opponents. Pitt was bad, no doubt about it.... but Oklahoma state is going to get 500+ yards and 40+ points against almost all of their opponents this year.

The only thing that will possibly limit them is if some opponent (Oklahoma?) keeps up with their scoring.

When/if OkSt loses... it will by by some 48-42 type score.

Where does Pitt rank in regards to financial support within the ACC? Last time I checked it was bottom 1/4.

No doubt about it.... Rudolph killed us.

We'll get a good idea of how our defense compares when we see what OkSt does to TCU this week.

They're probably going to do pretty well, TCU's DB's looked confused multiple times vs SMU last Saturday.

That's good stuff. Unfortunately we saw the same thing last year like giving up 61 to Syracuse. Just we had an offense to bail us out. Narduzzi is supposed to be defensive guru

First of all, Mike Gottfried was the best coach since Jackie Sherrill, followed by Walt Harris who brought the program back from the dead. If either of those guys had half the support that the current administration is giving the program, they would have had tremendous results.

This defensive scheme is horrendous. People are running wide open all over the field and quarterbacks are setting personal and school records at a regular pace when they play Pitt. There is no way it should be this bad in year 3. The defense is beyond ridiculous...it does not work.

You sound like basketball posters about the Louisville game - It is one game

That's an unfortunate example. The Louisville game was most certainly a good predictor of the rest of the basketball season. Just saying.

That said Pitt most certainly has to stick with Narduzzi for a long time. Flipping coaches has been suicidal for our programs. The replacements are almost always worse. And multiple years of recruiting get destroyed. Stick with the guy and hope he turns into our Frank Beamer.

Louisville is a perfect example. Louisville in basketball and OKL St in football are about the worst mismatches Pitt can get. On top of that for the Louisville game, throw in sulking players who had just be dressed down by Stallings. For OKL ST throw in a PSU hangover.

When you already have huge mismatches and you add a reason for lack of incentive, you wind up with those kind of results - One horrendous game - Nothing more.

I totally and 100% disagree about Gottfried. Fazio and Gottried were probably the best recruiters in Pitt football history and they coached back to back. Between Fazio’s left overs and players that Gottfried brought in, we had some of the best talent in Pitt football history. Yet Gottfried never won more than 8 games per season. His overall record was 27-17-2. Back in those days, we weren't playing in the ACC. You talk about recruiting rankings? If they ranked recruiting classes in those days, Pitt would have finished in the top 5 a couple of times under Gottfried

Here is a small taste of players he had on his rosters while at Pitt:

1983:

Craig Heyward RB - USA Today All-USA high school football team (1st team)
Chuck Scales RB – Parade Magazine High School All-American Team

1984:

Mark Stepnoski OL - USA Today All-USA high school football team (1st team)

1985:

Reggie Williams WR – Parade Magazine High School All-American Team

1986:

Mac Spindler DL - USA Today All-USA high school Defensive Player of the Year
Louis Riddick CB - USA Today All-USA high school football team (1st team)

1987:

Mark Chalenski DL – USA Today All-USA high school football team (1st team)
Curtis Bray LB – Gatorade High School Player of the Year 1987
Mike LiVorio OL - USA Today All-USA high school football team (1st team)
Tony Delazio OL - USA Today All-USA high school football team (1st team)

1988:

Sean Gilbert DL - USA Today All-USA high school Defensive Player of the Year

1989:

Ruben Brown OL - USA Today All-USA high school football team (1st team)

Not mention other players such as: Jerry Olsavsky, Keith Hamilton, Ricardo McDonald, Teryl Austin, Burt Grossman, Curvin Richards, Jeff Christy, Dave Moore, Alex Van Pelt, etc...

Thank God for the Golden Panthers!

Nooooo! Don't ever bring up best coach and Gottfried in the same sentence again!

It's amazing how some posters look fondly back at previous coaches when they aren't coaching your team anymore.

Agree and there are more names that you left off the list also. Tony Woods, Nelson Walker, Steve Isreal, Gadson, Tony Siragusia, Darnell Dickins, Billy osborn, and I am sure I left names off too.
