Would this idea do anything for you guys? Each home game (except for Homecoming), Pitt dedicates the game to a certain year's Pitt graduating class -- the Class of '72, the Class of 91', etc. etc... I'm not talking about the football team graduating class, I'm talking about the whole school's graduating class.

For that game:
---Members of that year's class would be invited down on the field before the game to help line the entrance to the tunnel as the team comes out. This might have to be limited to the first so many who sign up... I've had the opportunity to do this and it's fun to be down there, IMHO.
---Some of the music played during stoppages would be the big hits from that year.
---There could be a brief clip played on the scoreboard of the big events of that year - at Pitt and in the world.
---Perhaps the Pitt Marching Band could play a tune appropriate for that class.

Just a thought - looking for ways to try to better connect Pitt FB with Pitt fans (I know, I know, the answer is a winning team...).

Go Pitt.

I think it's a pretty good idea. Certainly worth a try. The only problem I could see is how to actually select the years. Some of the very early years might actually have to turn into decades (eg the '30's) simply because there probably wouldn't be enough grads from any one class to pull it off. That said, the logistics and scheduling can be worked out. Send it off to the new AD.

Then PITT could RETIRE the class. Yes, the whole damn class could be retired and then hang a banner in their honor. Hell, forget the banner. A big tarp in the upper end zone would be nice, I THINK!

Good idea! If it doesn't go over well they could launch into a few verses of Sweet Caroline as plan B.

Good idea. Needs a little teeth. How about that Pitt rescinds the degrees from any class that does not have at least 15,000 in attendance. That along with locking the student exit gates until the end of the game should do the trick.

I like the idea but as someone mentioned, how do you decide the classes? I am in favor of 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90, Oughts

My old high school does something similar. They do it for only 1 game of the season and call it alumni day. It's not for any particular year but any alum that cares to take part signs up before the game and is recognized
before the game. It is always well received.

Just do reunion years. So classes that ar 20, 25, 30, 40 etc years since graduation are the ones who are eligible. That will limit the selection and allow rotation of classes each year. For the older classes, like 5o and 60 years out, then can be combined because there will be less people. Like "Today we welcome the classes of 1966, 1956 and 1946 as they welcome the team onto the field" and one of the class members can dot the i. Then next game, members from the class of 76.

Something like that.

Then, let Scott Barnes use the gatherings as fundraising opportunities. A chance to convince these alums to donate to the athletic scholarship fund.
