#65 (NET) right now with wins over #23 Lou, #26 FSU, and #61 SLU. Our NET ranking will be in the 50s tomorrow. We obviously are not going to the NCAAT but it is crazy to think that we are technically in contention for it at this point. Just give me 5 more wins and an NIT bid and I will be thrilled.

As of right now.... Pitt is projected to go 17-14/7-11 (according to teamrankings.com after they update later tonight).

17-14/7-11 is an NIT team.

Get to 19-12/9-9 and we're talking serious play-in bubble.

Get to 20-11/10-8 and we're talking Capel as ACC COTY lock and an NCAA bid.

"We obviously aren't going to the ncaat" I think this quote needs to be posted in the locker room so x Trey and audiese can see this because this is the kinda thing that will make them prove that wrong. These kids are cold blooded f****** assassins

He probably wouldnt, but if Pitt made it to the tournament, Capel probably deserves to be NATIONAL coach of the year.

9-9 in the acc is in the dance
But that’s a long shot for Pitt

As fans, a lot of us would be content with the NIT. Better believe the coaches and players are setting their sights higher, let’s hope they can keep it up. Schedule sure as hell doesn’t get any easier.

#65 is pretty far from the bubble. Don't forget the autobids. Teams that lose to Niagara at home don't usually get to the NCAA tournament.

I think 7 more wins is definitely doable and I think 6 more wins and 8-10 in the conference is for sure doable. They play Syracuse and Clemson both twice which should be worst case record 2-2. They have road games at Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Miami and Louisville. I think they can go worst case 2-3 maybe 3-2 in that stretch. And then 4 home games with Duke, Notre Dame, NC State and Virginia Tech where I think they can go 2-2 in that stretch by beating Notre Dame and upsetting either NC State or Virginia Tech. That right there gets them to 8 or 9 wins. It’s very doable looking at their schedule and if it happens this team is going to the NCCA tournament for sure.

Jeez. What a brutal schedule

I listened to a little bit of the ACC channel on Sirius/XM on the way to the game tonight. They were talking to someone (writer, I assume) from Louisville. He pointed out that they better win games now, because in February they play six games in a row against teams that were in the top 25 today.

This league can be a bitch.

Looking ahead gets you in trouble. Getting a swelled head gets you into trouble.

I know it is a cliche, but you have to take them one at a time.

The Steelers need to learn that.

Pitt should be well aware of that. The only time that didn't apply at Pitt was when Jackie Sherrill was coach. Our third team could beat most opponents even if the first two teams were looking ahead.

How does fans looking ahead affect anything?

The players interact with fans and other students. They read the media. Everyone starts to tell them how good they are and they start to believe it. This is about as common an occurrence as there is. A hungry team is ready to play. A team reading their press clippings while being patted on the back, is not.

How can you say, "obviously"?...........this team will at the very least, be on the bubble come selection Sunday.

I don't see how you can't be thinking a little big, we have 2 wins and both are against very good teams....and just as important we kept it close on the road at NC State......I'm sure we'll have our share of ugly games coming up.....

But if we beat Syracuse Saturday we might be ranked on Monday....(certainly there would be some votes)

Losing faith in Kenpom. Not because he has us at 68, but somehow penn state is 61.

That just shows you how little these rankings mean this time of year. Wait until mid-Feb. until you look at them. Until then, they're no better than throwing darts at a dartboard.

PSU isn't a horrible team, but they have a horrible schedule. Remember that schedule when the idiots start talking about evil cupcakes. Chambers should be fired just because of that schedule.

As of now, Jerry Palm has Pitt on the bubble, as an #11 seed and in the play-in game. Just need to keep winning..Hopefully a .500 record in conference and a win in the tourney..It'll be close.

And yet game after game their predicted margin of victory is within a point of the opening point spread.

I guess some people actually are really good at throwing darts at a dartboard.

ACC scehdule makers did Pitt no favors...next week is brutal. If we could steal one win out of the next 3, it would be a huge accomplishment. After that things ease up a bit.

We were 82 (or maybe it was 84) per Sagarin's computer before last night's game. We moved up to #71 this morning (FSU dropped to #29). However, in Sagarin's "recent" rating we moved up to #43.

So, we are #71 on our whole body of work (including the Niagara loss which continues to look really bad as Niagara continues to lose to relatively weak opponents) but Pitt is now playing like #43 per that computer. If the team keeps on playing like it did over the last few there is hope for the NCAAT bubble or at least the NIT. But the Niagara loss and a #221 strength of schedule continues to hang heavy at this point.

FWIW Sagarin's computer has PSU #70 but only #122 in its "recent" games ratings. They seem headed in the wrong direction while we seem headed in the right direction. Hopefully that trend continues.

Thanks. I like the idea of a “recent” ranking even if they wouldn’t hold much weight in the eyes of a selection committee.

If Pitt continues to win games in the ACC and also get quality wins as well such as upsetting ranked teams like FSU last night the committee is gonna somewhat have to put that Niagra loss on the back burner. One bad loss to Niagra in December shouldn’t completely cancel out 3 or 4 quality wins within the conference. Palm has them in now as an 11 seed in the play in game so as I mentioned before 8 wins in this conference which is definitely doable and a quality win or two on the road gets them to 18 or 19 wins and probably in the tournament. This game Saturday at Syracuse would be absolutely huge to win on the road and get Pitt to 3-2 in the conference would really increase Pitt’s chances of making the NCCA’s.

Well, that hasn't been true for Pitt games.

Pitt has gone 13-5 against the spread...and only 3 games have been within 3 points of the predicted spread.

They have been WAY off on Pitt.

If they can somehow get 2 of the next 5, which likely means winning at least one on the road and splitting with Cuse...I'll start to believe the NCAAT is possible. They could certainly then take 3 of the next 5, which would leave them sitting at 7-7 with 4 to play, in need of another split.

I need to see how they perform against CUSE on Saturday before I start having any aspirations. I don't have a good feeling as of now given we have no real jump shooters and the zone has killed us, to date. But this team continues to surprise, so why not?

I personally think we keep it at arms length for about 35 minutes on Saturday, but lose by 10 or so, then beat them at home two weeks later. I don't think we're quite ready to win on the road yet. Clemson is the one I have circled for that.

I def think they can go 2-3 in their next 5 games. That gets them to 4-5 in the conference and then as you said the schedule gets easier. I give them a good shot to win at Syracuse on Saturday and I personally think they will.

Because it’s silly. Pitt is definitely good enough to make it.
