Pitt Med, the project for Jackson State University holds the key for New Pitt Stadium. IF JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY CAN MOVE INTO THE FUTURE, I'D SAY PITT IS WELL BEYOND THEM!

Multiple uses as Football, Wrestling, Swimming, Classrooms, Offices and Events Center makes their idea work for Pitt. Hail!

Being right and smart is relentless. And it's the only way ideas become reality.
I'd call it persistence. For those who know:

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." - Calvin Coolidge

Pitt blew it by selling their soul to BB, destroying Pitt Stadium for the Pete only---should have put a "dome-like" facility up for FB and BB

IF and I say IF Pitt were to do something, then a multipurpose facility like this would be the way to go.

If Jackson State can raise the money, we here at Pitt in a wealthy city could do it in a minute!
"You can't fix stupid."

Please refrain from the acrimonious comments. You have obviously failed as the New Pitt Stadium website is at 10s of thousands of views and the University has already commissioned a study to build a new stadium and many other facilities. You are lagging behind progress. Try to add not subtract from Pitt Athletics anymore. Thanks.

I agree. Swimming, Wrestling, Gymnastics, Volleyball, all Olympic Sports could have a home. It would be big money ~ 300M plus, but long run ~ it is cheaper and better for all of Pitt Athletics which I truly believe is our mutual goal.

You've got to wonder where the resources for this are going to come from. Mississippi is one of the most impoverished states in the nation, and its HBCUs, a legacy of the state's segregationist past, remain the stepchildren in the state's educational hierarchy.

You've also got to wonder what is the demand for a facility with a capacity of 50,000 for football and 17,000 for basketball . . . at Jackson State!

Sems to me that this is someone's pipe dream . . . and you have to question just what's in that pipe.

Please direct us to that "study". Gallagher has said: "The numbers don't work." How much loot have you pocketed from this crayola rendering?? What are YOUR professional qualifications??

If you don't want criticism, don't offer up asinine solutions to complex problems. And if you internalize that criticism as a personal insult I suggest you grow thicker skin, stop sucking your thumb, and grow up.

No dome reduces the cost but also reduces its utility. It would not have many uses without the dome.

It depends if the ideas are good or bad. I've known people with bad ideas who were persistent/relentless, it was never good.

"reducing the cost of the dome by 75 million"

is preceded by your statement..."Multiple uses as Football, Wrestling, Swimming, Classrooms, Offices and Events Center makes their idea work for Pitt. Hail!"

which begs the question.......if there is no dome, how is there wrestling? swimming? Events Center?

Additionally.........the city of Jackson, MS.....state capital........largest city in the state...meaning this facility will get numerous more days/ evenings of use than would a similar on a university campus such as Pitt.

No.....not a good comparison at all.

You are just being negative and insulting. Clearly you aren't a real Pitt fan. Haven't you heard, these things ARE GOING TO HAPPEN.

Basketball team play at consol tear down the Pete and build this 50,000 seat domed stadium back where Pitt stadium was a multi use facility, including football, basketball, swimming etc. don't know about you guys but the Pete is ok not the greatest venue. If they have to buy property and tear down buildings, might as well use their own property and tear down the pete

Just what we need.....go off-campus for our winningest sport that plays 20 games at home. Move to a hockey arena so we can all gasp at the pix on the wall of non-citizens. If you've ever been to the Carrier Dome, you'd sing a different song. Or maybe not. Scary, really.

The average income for Jackson, MS is approx 18K/Yr. The cost of real estate is much less than Oakland! The land alone would cost us 75-100M.

Jackson St doesn't have the funds either. Unless they have a very very wealthy donor it's not happening.

stop the insanity.
THIS IS NOT HAPPENING UNLESS THE STEELERS MOVE OUT OF THE CITY!
-seriously, this is an endless waste of time saying how we aren't doing this right now.

Tear down the Pete so soon after it was built? Talk about throwing money away . . .

This is probably the only answer to Pitt's campus stadium. Might have to wait another 15-20 years to do it unless time is a worry with development in the surrounding area.

Temporarily, the Pete is not all that great a facility, even if the school thought of building a new stadium they would have to buy the land and probably tear down some buildings costing millions anyway they already have the property, just tear down the Pete and play at consol temporarily until new place is done, I have been to the carrier dome I don't like their air suspended roof, put a real permenent roof on it, I see what you are saying about the winningest sport at Pitt playing teams like Eastern Washington, Morehead St, Central Arkansas and teams like that to get to a 20 win season at a place like Consol Energy

Or Duke or UNC?? The Pete is one of the best college arenas in the country. Perfect size. The Consol is a hockey arena. Horrible idea, at ridiculous cost.

You've been pushing this garbage for a long time and you are just now at tens of thousands of views? Pathetic.

I like it!!!!! Z#2 plus Jimbo Covert building it by himself = Pitt Stadium at UPMC built by Jimbo Covert Field

Get it done!

I would say in about 20 years when the Pete is 35 years old (not old, but not new either), the decision should be made to basically rip up the upper campus. Tear everything down except the baseball, softball, soccer fields and start over. Tear down the Pete, Trees, OC Lot, Cost Center, Field House, etc and build everything new.

- Football stadium where Pete used to be

- New bball arena where OC Lot/Cost Center used to be

- New indoor track where Trees is. Make it 4 or 5 floors with swimming and diving on 1st floor on 1 side with skating rink on other (why not?). 2nd floor is indoor track but olympic size for T&F team. 3rd floor is indoor IM football field. 4th floor is indoor baseball/softball practice field. 5th floor indoor IM soccer field. 6th floor basketball courts, weight room, racquetball/tennis

- new volleyball/wrestling facility where Field House is

- turn outdoor IM fields into massive parking lot to replace OC Lot

The Pete is ok at best, the consol would be temporary, Heinz field is an NFL stadium, the seats have steeler emblems on them Pitt can't do anything to the field and or stadium unless approved by the steelers. But I also know none of this will ever happen, just like Pitt Heinz field is it

I didn't see the news that Pitt discovered oil under Fifth Avenue.

I think the Pete is a very nice facility. As for Heinz, it has permanent Steelers as well a Pitt signage, including on the sides of the aisle seats.

I wish our fans would look at the positives, instead of the negatives. The Panthers share a practice facility with an NFL team and the players seem to like that a lot. We have a great coach and it seems like ticket sales are going well. Let's focus on those things.
