Pitt-Narduzzi working toward new 7-year contract

What makes you think someone else would bring in better talent given the same situation? Every coach at Pitt over the last 25 years has struggled with talent acquisition. Some more than others, but it's been a consistent problem.

This is an excellent move for Pitt football.
I don’t,
I simply don’t see the urgency to over pay

This could help with recruiting. I think one of the receivers' parents that just visited asked about his contract at Pitt. Plus, I am sure other coaches in the area are bringing up our recent coach instability. I just hope is buy out is big enough.

We have a better chance of getting to where we want under narduzzi than letting him go and hiring someone who is under the radar. I've seen pitt F up enough coaching searches in my life, I'm good with not rushing into another disaster

Pay the man Shirley.

Lose to Syracuse. Fire the bum.
Beat Duke and Virginia. He deserves another year.
Lose to North Carolina and Virginia Tech. Fire the bum.
Beat Miami. Give him a lifetime contract!
so you are saying we are "knee jerk reaction" fan base..

Really though? Is he not at least as good as these guys? He’s paid the same as Wake’s HC- last in the Conference.

Bronco Mendenhall - UVA -3.4 Mill
Paul Johnson - GT - 2.97 Mill
Dave Cutcliffe- Duke - 2.613Mill
Steve Addazio- BC - 2.418 Mill
Pat Narduzzi - Pitt - 1.827 Mill
Dave Clawson Wake Forest - 1.827 Mill

I’m also not saying you over pay the guy. Just show him a little more love + a long term deal.
So, that number for Narduzzi/Pitt is completely wrong.

That is the University taxable payout for the 2015 season, before he got his extension and raise that kicked starting for the 2016 season. It does not include several hundred thousand dollars in other pay that does not come directly from the University. I am extremely confident in saying he makes at least $2.5M in 2017 (which you could then compare to those reported salaries/contracts) and I would bet on more than $2.7M with a good shot at $3M.

Perhaps 2.75mil a year with incentatives to exceed 3 mil. Also need a sufficient raise package for Asst's. I for one do not blame the failures of this past season on the staff, I believe youth and inexperience caused the downfall but as the season progressed I was encouraged by the play and improvement on the defensive side of the ball.
I am just hoping for 3 million a year. If Pitt was willing to go to 4 million a year I would faint. At 4 million even if Duzz ended up not being the guy it would still be good news because that would be Pitt making an investment in football. Something I never saw much of.
He is likely already making at least $2.75M and probably $3M before any new raise for 2018.

Great move.

Too bad Heather was not hired before AD Barnes, then Jamie would still be a Panther and Pitt would be going to the NCAA Tournaments.

The next issue Heather is the "Right Sizing" of Heinz Field for Pitt football games.

Hope you enjoyed watching the Pac-12 Championship Game featuring Stanford-USC played in a "Right Sized" Stadium.

AD Barnes, so much damage in so little time.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!
NIT maybe last year if Luther and Young werent hurt, but they’d be a disaster this year. Cupboard was bare. Dixon knew it. Now if Barnes was competent enough to hire a good replacement, then we’d be more hopeful, it Dixon was on his way out when Nordy and Pedey boy were no longer in his corner.

As long as there is fairly strong buyout language and incentive pay mechanisms, this is a good move. In a long term contract, there is obviously an increased chance he goes somewhere else, and if that happens we want the money needed to try to avoid a hire on the cheap Haywood debacle.

As they say in the casino that Mrs Buffett and I frequent:

$ Pay the Man! or Lady $
He's got the cards!
You can see the sweat on Pitt's forehead as they try to bluff?
Pitt can't bluff anymore because there aren't good candidates willing to take the job.

People are going to be doing the same thing next year when they use the 2016 numbers and say that is the extended contract amount and say Pitt is cheap and they won't donate.

I agree. People are even quoting the 2015 numbers as 2016 numbers because they don't have a clue and people like Batko at the PPG don't know or don't care to explain it when they write their articles about it.

So, if that is the case, every other coach on that list is making more than they have reported as well , right ? So in reality , those coaches are still making more , as their salaries are under reportedly like Duzz, or is it just Duzz who is making more than reported on that list ? We are competing against those schools , so we need to pay the going rate , and until we find out the next contract , we are behind , PERIOD!

No. The vast majority have their contracts released via FOIA requests, so their total compensation is known and for 2017. Very few schools are set up similar to Pitt in this regard.
