PITT PREDICTIONS 2015 SEASON:
Rankings 1-Low - 10-Best
Coach Ranking: (?7?) Players Back Ranking: 8
Optimistic Expectations: 7
The Pitt Offense has the Players in the place to score big points in games. It will depend on Jim Chaney adaptation to Former Coach Chryst and Rudolph's Offensive Systems and Players. Chaney made changes whereby Conner’s will be used far more on Third Downs. The question is will this cause Conner's to be more vulnerable to being injured and growing tired. Or is Conner's able to handle the added work? If QB Voytik is given running designed plays, I will be very happy because that really p[ens the Offense. Boyd will be better than ever, but can Pitt find 2 to 4 others Wide Outs to help keep Boyd from being Doubled Teamed? I really expect big improvements using the Tight Ends. but we shall see if that happens under Chaney?

The Pitt Special Teams - Coach Pat was smart enough to bring in one of the finest Special Teams Coaches in College Football. This is a great move because quite frankly Coach Chryst & Staff simply ignored this aspect of College Football or worse were just terrible in coaching Special Teams? This error on Coach Chryst’s part cost Pitt 2 to 3 games each of his years as Head Coach at Pitt. It is not just coaching the Special Teams but finding the Players that can compete and execute Special Teams. Pitt should be better in this area this year.

The Pitt Defense is what every Pitt Fan is expecting instant success. I am not one of them in that camp or belief. The Pitt defense will be a work in process All Season Long, much like the Steelers! Pitt is bringing back many Defensive Upper Classmate Players but they all still have to learn a new system? They will need the entire season to become a better Unit but I really think this might be the Best Staff Coaching Unit on Defense and of course, Coach Pat is there to help develop it!

Three Concerns: 5
1. New Staff and Systems again...once again Pitt Players are still learning from New Coaches that have to learn about what they can and cannot do, and only game experience usually answers those questions. Although high expectations are here with Coach Pat & Staff, the facts remains there are more Unknowns than Knowns for the 2015 Season.

2. Key Injuries are expected from the New Coaches, New Systems, and Tougher Practices with Speed Hitting. Coach Pat's Defenses are known for quick hitting speed and that means quick hitting practices among the players and then in the games. Pitt does not have many 4 and 5 Star Recruits that have turn into Top Players that wins games. They have to do it playing together as Top Units without mistakes and great execution. Injuries cause’s replacements, and replacements cause mistakes, among Units playing together. Pitt cannot afford to lose QB Voytik, WR Boyd, and RB Conner’s! Already the Offense and Defense has some key injuries that can cause more concerns as the season develops under New Coaches? Since Pitt players will do harder and faster hitting Fans should expect more injuries not less.

3. Tough Schedule against good coaches and many Teams with Players coming back as well making it a tough season for Pitt. Coach Pat's Head Coaching & New Staff will need sometime to adjust from being a Coordinator towards being the Head Coach. Learning still happens when becoming a Head Coach and includes choosing a Staff capable of complimenting him. In the meantime, Coach Pat is dependent on his Staff while other Teams they oppose already have their Head Coaches and Staffs in place for a number of years. This is why it is another concern because Pitt Coaches and Players will have to learn more as other Coaches and Players already know each other. This is not a soft schedule as Franklin has at Penn State.

Youngstown State:
Coach Ranking: 7.5 Players Back Ranking: 8
Pitt is not just coaching against Bo Pelini but Jim Tressel as well, as far as I am concern. Both will help their YSU Players be ready for the Pitt Game. Meaning it is up to Coach Pat & Staff to have his Players ready for them? I just don’t know since Coach this will be Coach Pat & Staff first game? I expect the Pitt Offense will score points and win a closer game than many expect.
Preseason Prediction:
PITT-29 Ysu-27 PITT (1-0)
Game Day Prediction:
Game Day Result:

Akron:
Coach Ranking: 7.5 Players Back Ranking: 8
Terry Bowden can coach and has many of his players back starting at Akron. Pitt Players will come in confident, looking for payback, and may have a new attitude but it still comes down to execution. The Facts are Akron will have more players ready to execute better than Pitt Players. Pitt coaches are learning too, unlike the Zip’s Bowden & Staff. Another close game for a not so easy season for any coach let alone a first year coach at Pitt
Preseason Prediction:
PITT-19 Akron-17 PITT (2-0)
Game Day Prediction:
Game Day Result:

@Iowa:
Coach Ranking: 7.9 Players Back Ranking: 8
Once again, Kirk Ferentz is in his 17th year and has his staff and systems down as Coach Pat & Staff will be just in their third game? Pitt is going up against a Junior QB and that will not be easy. However, Pott matches up quite well against this team just like last year. There is mixture of sophomores and seniors with dabs of juniors. The problem for Pitt is may be playing 3 freshmen. There is an old coach adage for every freshmen that’s tarts expects to lose one game per freshmen as they learn the game by making mistakes. Yet, I sense the Pitt coaching Staff will take risks that Chryst was shy to take, so I am going with another close Pitt Win!
Preseason Prediction:
PITT- 27 Iowa-24 (3-0)
Game Day Prediction:
Game Day Result:

@Virginia Tech:
Coach Ranking: 7.9 Players Back Ranking: 9
Pitt Players going up against a very experienced Offense and Defense after bushwhacking them at home last year makes it a very tough game to win. There are just 4 Sophomore Starters on this team, and the game is away at VT. Sorry can’t see a Pitt win this time even if we beat them last year?
Preseason Prediction:
Pitt- 27 VIRGINIA TECH-34 (3-1)
Game Day Prediction:
Game Day Result:

Virginia:
Coach Ranking: 6 Players Back Ranking: 8
Tough game, let me say it again, this will be a very tough game. London has at least 6 players on Defense that will play on Sunday in the NFL. The defense will be hard to beat just like last year. The entire Virginia Offense is back but they will have problems at QB. Special Teams may be the difference and I will favor Pitt on that outcome by a squeaker? The Pott Defense should be playing better by now, but injuries could be killing Pitt by this time too?
Preseason Prediction:
PITT- 24 Virginia-23 (4-1)
Game Day Prediction:
Game Day Result:

@Georgia Tech:
Coach Ranking: 9.5 Players Back Ranking: 9
Ditto the Virginia Tech game…..Pott will struggle to beat Coach Johnson’s well coached and executed players that love playing like a Team. Only if Coach Pat & Staff are doing a great job at coaching can Pitt win this game. Until Pitt shows me they can beat Johnson’s Yellow Jackets the sting of defeat will be on Pitt being stung not just IT? Georgia Tech just has too much experience on the Team and Coaching.
Preseason Prediction:
Pitt- 24 GEORGIA TECH-37 (4-2)

Get use to an exact rematch the last two seasons when Pitt lost on Chryst’s Special Education on Special Teams costing Pitt players that played their hearts out losing leads they had and did not deserve to be let down by Chryst arrogance and ignorance not needing Special Teams? Total toss up game, and tough call, I will go with Pitt but have no clue until game Day? Fedora again has been there at UNC while Coach Pat & Staff are in the first year.

The Irish are back and will be upset they lost last year to Pitt. The one weak spot may be the QB but it will be the 8th game? Sorry, cannot see Pitt winning even if they play a tough and good game. If Coach Pat has 6 wins by now, well, my prediction may change on game day?
Preseason Prediction:

@Duke:
Coach Ranking: 9 Players Back Ranking: 8
Ditto above but on steroids. These two teams have scored 50 points against one another the last two years. Does anyone expect anything else this game. Well, that will depend on Coach Pat & Staff having a healthy Team of key players. Duke’s Coach will be ready but was the last two years too. Pitt had them beat last year and the lead but Chryst’s Special teams and Chryst’s dumb calls cost the game?

The good news is ULou will be rebuilding and starting a few freshmen too. The bad news ULou is coached by Petrino that knows how to develop great teams everywhere he coaches. Pit has a chance, but that is about it. This is a Georgia Tech type case, Pitt has to show it can beat Johnson and Petrino and until they do, ULou gets the picks?

Miami:
Coach Ranking: 7 Players Back Ranking: 7
Coach Golden recruiting this year is ranked 7th, last year 26th, 12th in 2014 and 20th in 2013. They have better talent but not the better QB. The Canes of Pain will be hurtful and frightful in Defense, but if Coach Pat & Staff are winning 7 games by now, Pitt can do the same again like last year. It is tough to pick Pitt against Miami but Golden has had much trouble relating to his Players at Miami. Pitt can win this at home in the cold!
Preseason Prediction:
PITT-33 Miami-32 (8-4)
Game Day Prediction:
Game Day Result:

Outllook:
Coach Pat & Staff have a fine group of Players back, but it is their first year and going against all Teams with established Coaching Staffs unlike Pitt. Although I am predicting an 8-4 Season for Pitt, usually I am over optimistic. More likely 7-5 and Pitt could go 4-8 just as easily. A 10-2 Season would portend great things to come, but Christmas is not until December? Count on an early cool Fall more than Bright Christmas?

Cap'n - always enjoy your preseason predictions. I agree that the first 2 games have the potential to be close, unlike others. We shall see!

Going with my same prediction as last year: 6 & 6 with 5 & 7 more likely than 7 & 5.
Wins: YSU, Syracuse, Virginia, Duke, UNC, Miami.
Losses: Akron, Notre Dame, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Virginia Tech.

I say 9 wins with 10 a very real possibility. I admit I am drinking nard-aide. I saw chryst cost us games last year by his decisions. I think/more like hope Narduzzi changes those toss up games this year. Call it wishful thinking, blind optimism, or utter madness, but that is my prediction.

YSU - Big Pitt Win
Akron - Pitt wins by at least two touchdowns
At Iowa - same margin here
At VPI - close Pitt win
UVA - by 3 touchdowns
At Ga. Tech - lose late
at 'Cuse - Pitt wins squeaker
UNC - Pitt wins another squeaker
Notre Dame - as Beano used to say...they have too much material
At Duke - a 3rd squeaker but we win
Louisville - a 4th - Pitt wins
Miami - we win - Golden out - Butch Davis comes back to the U

We win the close games that we lost last year and win the bowl game

11-3 - Narduzzi coach of the year - we have to up his salary.

Ok, I'm a homer but, I think this year vaults back Pitt to national prominence!

11 - 2 in regular season means we play in a top bowl game. I would love to see this happen and play ups in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

YSU - Bumpy first half, followed by a second half in which PITT shows off its summer mental and physical conditioning. PITT wins by 17. (1-0)
Akron - Akron surges to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, then PITT takes over after a defensive and special team TD, along with Voytik realizing Boyd is back on the field. PITT wins by 10. (2-0)
At Iowa - Tricky game against a team we should have beaten, but simply haven't. A team that thrives on the run and short-passing game will be stymied by the likes of Scarpinato, Jarrett, KK, and Taleni. PITT wins this one by 7. (3-0)
At VT - while they have solid players on the DL, they have a relatively young secondary. I like PITT's chances against their aggressive D. PITT wins in a close one by 3. (4-0)
UVA - as much as I want to say this is a win, PITT just hasn't had the greatest luck against this team. The tide may turn with a more experienced Voytik (see the terrible pick 6 thrown last year), and the graduation of Kevin Park, who had a career day against PITT last year. Unfortunately, I think PITT comes up short, losing by 4 in a dramatic stop by UVA in the red zone. (4-1)
At Ga. Tech - GT's QB is an absolute nightmare for defenses. I have no idea how this defense will handle a QB who can run very well, while also having an accurate and strong arm. This one is a shootout, ultimately ending in a 10 point loss for PITT. (4-2)
at 'Cuse - PITT wins fairly easily by 17. (5-2)
UNC - PITT gets some redemption from last year, with the defense coming up big late in the game. PITT wins by 7. (6-2)
Notre Dame - really tough to say how good ND is at this point. The media has hyped the heck out of this team, like they usually do. Some are even projecting them in the CFP, although I am very skeptical. By the time PITT gets a crack at the Irish, they will have played TX, GT, CLEM, and USC. If they lose the majority of these games, Kelly may be on the brink of disaster. These games always result in dramatic finishes, and I expect the same to occur here. Whitehead has a breakout game after taking some lumps early in the season to create a big-time turnover, as well as a punt return to set up the offense for two easy TDs. PITT wins this one by 4. (7-2)
At Duke - I'll be at this game, so of course I hope the game ends the same way that it did last time PITT played at Duke. Unfortunately, I see a very close loss in a high-scoring game in typical (as typical as it can be for such a short history between the two teams) fashion. PITT loses a close one by 3. (7-3)
Louisville - I like that this game is at home, as PITT likely wouldn't fare well at their place. If L'Ville can make their way through some tough early season match-ups, this could be a major game for them. PITT shows they have speed and athleticism on both sides of the football, just not quite enough to hang with L'Ville. L'Ville wins by 3. (7-4)
Miami - Miami will look for redemption following last year's collapse. Fortunately, it won't happen this year. PITT wins by 10, going on a two-game win streak against the U; their first since the dinosaurs roamed the earth. (8-4)

Ratking17, I really like the persona and quiet but focused attitude of confidence that Coach Pat brings to Pitt. It is rare for anyone to become a Head Coach and win 9 or 10 games right away but it has happen. I still expect some bumps and bruises and adjustments among Staff and Players learning about each other. If Pitt can win 7 to 8 games this year i think this will portend better things to come for Coach Pat and Pitt Fans. The way i see why Coach Pat is different than other coaches that have come and gone at Pitt is simple.

Coach Pat wants to be at Pitt and win at Pitt and not looking just be a Head Coach but to be a Pitt Head Coach for a long time. We shall see soon if he is up to this tasks?

I can't wait for Kick Off!

YSU - Big Pitt Win:p
Akron - Pitt wins by at least two touchdowns:rolleyes:
At Iowa - same margin here:cool:
At VPI - close Pitt wino_O
UVA - by 3 touchdowns:p
At Ga. Tech - lose late:eek:

What I really like about Duzz is his ability to rally the team. When was the last time we saw that around here? Hopefully that happens this year with Pitt.
I sense you are correct and Coach Pat has a tough job taking over a Pitt at a time when Pitt needs a special Head Coach to compete with other Head Coaches surrounding Pitt that are also rebuilding and have far more resources right now.

Ohio State's Urban Meyers can coach all and any players into great Teams, recruits anyone he wants, and has done a marvelous job everywhere he he has coached. This is not an easy task to compete with in Ohio and our region with Top 3 Recruiting, Winning, and National Championships.

Michigan's Jim Harbaugh is doing exactly what he will do at Michigan bringing back all its glory and traditional power historic pattern. He will be hard to beat on and off the field and needs just as much talent if not more to take on Urban Meyers.

Michigan State's Mark Dantonio is just a great hard nose coach in the traditions of such coaching that improves any recruit into a compliment as a contributing Player part of a well executed Team. Now that it has become a Top 10 Program in winning, he will just continue to keep MSU in the forefront of our region and takes what Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame leaves behind and will win 9-10+ games with them.

Notre Dame's Brian Kelly is cut from the same mold as Mark Dantonio and has Notre Dame History with him, making competing with him and all above even tougher for Coach Pat and Staff. It is up to Coach Pat & Staff to win by how they develop their recruits into players to beat and play with Notre Dame when Pitt plays them. Even the Fighting Irish's Kelly will have trouble staying with OSU, Michigan, and MSU let alone Pitt!

Penn State's James Franklin has Pennsylvania Players thinking and believing in making Penn State a true power in the Big Ten. Recruits in Pennsylvania and the region that includes New York, New Jersey, and Maryland this year and the last 2 years are joining Franklin to take on OSU, UM, and MSU's spectacular coaching and recruiting as well. This really hurts Pitt's Program right now and up to Coach Pat & Staff to out coach Franklin the next 4 years, a tough task when comparing talent on the both Rosters.

Maryland and Rutgers move to the Big Ten and more New Jersey and Maryland Top Recruits are staying home to play at those schools too. Another tough task for Pitt's Coach Pat & Staff?

WVU's Holgrosen is having his own growing pains at WVU and is on a short leash by WVU Big Contributor Boosters waiting and willing to choke him if he does not win 9 and 10 games soon? Yet, WVU is still taking key Players Coach Pat needs to win at Pitt and hurts Pitt at a time with so many great coaches competing all around Pitt's traditional recruiting grounds.

Walt Harris had to rebuild a Pitt Program that only had 67 Scholarship Players on it in 1996 and did not have 85 until 2002, but even he did not have the high caliber of coaches surrounding Pitt in the 1990s?

So, it is now up to Coach Pat to prove he has that special ability to rebuild Pitt Program among Schools, Programs, and Coaches with far more resources and winning in the Top 5, Top 10, and Top 25 and among competitors in the ACC today, as well as Big Ten and Big-12 Teams and Programs?

Pitt fans now know the tall tasks before Pitt's Coach Pat & Staff and to me, Coach Pat just seems like so what, lets get started building and playing as a Team. Coach Pat Narduzzi just seems unfazed by what he has to do at Pitt, but then again, he came to Pitt with his eyes wide open and wanted to be at Pitt or a long time.

Ohio State's Former Coach and YSU's President is on record Pitt picked the right coach that will win at Pitt and be at Pitt a long time, in less than 72 hours, Pitt Fans will see the unmasking of the Coach Pat Narduzzi Era!

It is very exciting as far as I am concern, because Coach Pat seems so calm and focused and that is a display of a confident coach with his task in hand and we shall see soon?

What I really like about Duzz is his ability to rally the team. When was the last time we saw that around here? Hopefully that happens this year with Pitt.

no offense, but "rally the team"? For what? We haven't played the game. Your statement above completely contradicts itself. You like his ability to "rally the team". When was the last time we saw that here. "HOPEFULLY that happens this year with Pitt".

Do you see the contradiction? You are pleased with something that hasn't happened but that you HOPE happens.

At MSU he gave the team a lift when he came down from the booth on several occasions. I'm just saying he seems to know how to get a team up when they are in adversity. MSU was getting their hides handed to them for three quarters of their bowl game last year. Duzz came out of the booth and MSU came back from 20 points down in the fourth quarter.

It's something I'm going to be looking for with Pitt. When things are going wrong, he might be able to get the team to turn it around.

Pitt is 0-30 in games in which it trailed in the 4th quarter. Seems like a great time to get a coach that can rally us from a loss to a win

6-6 at best

this team is not beating anybody other than syracuse and Akron on the road

ND Louisville and Miami at home they lose 2/3

Enjoyed reading all the predictions, good and bad. I have no idea how many games they will win. Every game seems winnable, only GT seems like a long shot. And, though they aren't bad, YSU seems like the only near certain win.

The others are toss-ups essentially. Each game will depend on things that happen as the season goes on, such as injuries for us and our opponents.

The schedule is tougher than last year, so it will be challenging to break past 7 wins.

But the coaching staff is better. And PN focuses on the 4th quarter, rotating his players throughout, so that he has the fresher legs in the 4th. Pitt has been an awful 4th quarter team for a long time. Pitt could easily have been 9-3 last year just by finishing better. I think the overall Narduzzi influence will take time, but I think his influence on our ability to finish will be seen sooner than later, and that will help with the win total. Also, while our team is still young, most of our starters are back, and being a year older helps with finishing.

thanks for taking the time to post some interesting reading! I appreciate it.

I think, for me personally, the season will be shown to me on that Iowa game. We should have ABSOLUTELY won the past 2 games against them, and due to pussy play calling in the 4th quarters we lost both... well, I think it was that and just total lack of intensity. I hope we get to see a new intensity with this new coach. I can see us holding onto wins and perhaps pulling out some victories from the jaws of defeat.

Of course, like you say, coaching only gets you so far, still need our team to execute.

I think if our RBs take care of the football and our D gets more takeaways by being more aggressive, we're a 9 win team.

Not that Boyd took our opponents by surprise last year, but we can't lean on him quite as much this year. The better teams on our sked will limit him unless we can throw to others as well.

If the defense is improved, & offense stays healthy - I can see 9-3.
Losses to VT, Ville, & ND.
The realist in me says 8-4 (loss vs. Iowa).
Hail to Pitt, and I'm looking forward to watching the guys compete under Narduzzi's leadership.
