Pitt Renovation Project - Donations

A few weeks back, there was a pretty interesting post about the Pitt renovation project that shared the link which showed the upgrades to the South Side facility. Before the dismissal of SP, I along with some other PantherLair posters talked about creating our own booster group. I've met with Pitt multiple times since then. They've asked us to hold off for now since the department is undergoing a major change with Chancellor Gallagher and new AD Scott Barnes. I was able to meet the Chancellor and he actually gets it when it comes to running a high level athletic department.

One of the things we talked about before was using a crowdfunding style fundraiser to raise money for Pitt. I thought this idea would translate well to this football renovation project. I started a campaign to see if we could raise enough money to donate a locker to Pitt. The recognition plate will say: "Generously Donated by: Proud Pitt Fans" to recognize all of the little guys like ourselves that individually can't make a major donation, but together can have an impact.

The fundraising website is www.gofundme.com/PittFootball

I'm just asking that people spread the word about this. Little donations, even as small as 5 dollars, can make a difference if enough people give. People seem ready to start supporting Pitt now that we have leadership that appears to be committed to winning. I hope that you can share this with your friends and fellow Panther fans.

Also we have a facebook page that will be the main source for all future projects, such as our newly created National Give to Pitt Athletics Day on Dec. 17 (the anniversary of SP's dismissal). That site is www.facebook.com/PittFundraising

Thanks everyone and Hail to Pitt!

A noble goal and worthwhile endeavor and my advice is when anything has "Renovations" in its goal, it should have "Innovations" within it, and that to me to also include or talk to one man......Dr. Randy Juhl!

The man Chancellor Gallagher chose to take over the Athletic Department after firing Pederson, and spending just a little time with Dr. Juhl will no doubt add to your goal and efforts, in my opinion!

Nice job keeping things active with this.

I refuse to let it be a failure. One month in and we're 54% of the way there. We are in the middle of a nice run of donations today, so if you haven't given yet, today is a great day to start! If you have given, make sure you reach out to your Pitt friends and let them know about this. The more people that know about it will help us hit our goal faster. I've found emailing people directly, texting, facebook messaging, and calling were the most effective way of getting donations from my Pitt friend group.

If you have already donated we are doing a $13 - $9 matching campaign right now thanks to UkiePanther. $13 or $9 isn't that much and you can help out again. We had seven $13 donations today. I've matched two of them with my own $9 donation today. So if you want to help you can chip in any amount you see fit because ultimately it all helps Pitt and gets a locker dedicated in the honor of all of us Pitt fans!

A post on the premium board suggested adding in donation levels of all of the retired Panther numbers such as Marino - $13, Dorsett - $33, Goldberg - $42, etc. I'd be willing to add it if people want it. He also suggested adding $97 for AD.

What do you Panther fans think? Should we add these to the donation levels list?

It seems that people weren't interested in the retired numbers donation levels.

At this point we are $4926 away from finishing the fundraiser. Basically if we can get 200 Pitt fans to donate $25 we will be done with this in no time.

Pitt has stepped up to make our Panthers a contender again. It's time for the fans to step up as well.

They fired Pederson, they brought back the script, and they're actually listening to the fans. It's time that we as fans show that we're on board with Pitt and are ready to stand with a winning program once again.

I think right now many are on vacation (literally and figuratively). I bet you'll see an uptick in interest closer to the season. I feel good about this and I know I most certainly will be kicking in some more $$ to push it over the top. Hopefully everyone who has already donated will feel the same.

You were spot on. We have started a nice new run of donations today!

Apparently the interview was replayed a few times last week. I didn't realize how much stuff for radio was pre-recorded until I talked to a producer from the Fan. I guess with talk radio, you really need some pre-recorded stuff to give the guys a break since they don't have music to fill up all of the space.

I have been in touch with Andrew Stockey from WTAE and they might be interested in doing a story for the TV side of things. It probably would work best closer to the start of the season or when we have a really slow sports news day (maybe the day after the MLB ASG).

In fundraising news, we're only $50 away from the 60% mark. Hopefully getting closer to the end and the start of football season fast approaching will mean more donations so that we can wrap this up by opening day.

Thanks for the support. Even if you don't donate through us, just telling your family and friends about the fundraiser helps a ton. We are $38 short of the $7000 mark. Donations have slowed down a bit over the last few weeks which has me a bit worried.

After BeiglePanther got us started in June I thought we may have a chance to get this finished by the end of July. I suppose we still do, but it will take a ton of work.

Hopefully we can keep spreading the word and working towards the goal, dollar by dollar.

So if you haven't yet, I hope you'll consider giving today. Even if it's just a few bucks.

I said this before, but honestly, I really do think you'll get some more interest once August and camp roll around. At the worst this stretches into September and hopefully you'll be able to feed off some good Pitt football results. The goal is to get it done, right? Although it would be nice earlier, getting this to the finish line regardless of the date would be a huge statement.
