Another Great Alumnus at Pitt and Great read in the Trib! Book It! All I can say....is live, learn, and get better and Book It For Life, Dano! One aspect now seen is hoe Pitt not only has OL but Back-Ups to keep the fresh.

This may be the problem for Penn state's Limegrover. He can find and put a OL together, he is good at that, but they will need time, snaps, and practice from 8 to 10 Players, but may not have that depth and experience until the end of next year.

Moorhead talks about exhausting the Defense in covering his Offense, but he may exhaust his OL in doing but, and does not have the back-Ups right now or so early?

Other knowing OL play please weigh in to share on the Lair....both PSU & Pitt & other Posters.

“I think he understands how important (it is),” Narduzzi said. “Just from the spring game, he's matured a lot.”Bookser, a sophomore from Mt. Lebanon, agrees. “At times last year, I didn't take things as seriously probably as I should have,” he said. “I think I've really turned over a leaf on that. It's just growing up and realizing I'm not here forever.” ...................“On game day, we can play up to eight guys,” he said. “You're keeping a guy fresh, and in the fourth quarter, maybe you don't have an exhausted guy, maybe we can make a bigger play.”

Dienhart: 5 things I learned at Penn State football practice:
1. The quarterback situation is interesting. The staff isn’t any closer to naming a starter between Trace McSorley and Tommy Stevens. Each is an athletic option capable of running the zone-read play while also being a solid passer. On this day, each flashed a nice skill set..................

2. The offensive line looks better. And, that’s a good thing. A few years ago, this was a group that lacked size and depth. No more, as there are more capable. New line coach Matt Limegrover is having an impact, too. This group could get a push, which would be a big boon for an offense with plenty of skill-position talent. Still, the jury remains very much out, as positions are fluid. Andrew Nelson looks solid at left tackle..................

3. Saquon Barkley is something special. In fact, he may be the top back in the Big Ten. The power and speed he flashed as a freshman sensation is still there. And now he has experience, savvy and confidence..............

4. The linebacking corps is gonna be good. It could be one of the best groups of linebackers in the conference. Nyeem Wartman-White had 2015 ruined by injury. But he is back and is moving well and looking good...............

5. The offense of new coordinator Joe Moorhead is fun and exciting. He still has a lot to install, he told me. No doubt, this attack looks a lot different than that of ex-coordinator John Donovan. The Nittany Lions will operate at a quick pace from a spread set that will include quarterback runs, read options and more. This is the style James Franklin has wanted to run since arriving in State College...............

A typical Big Ten Network fluff piece.....

"The Nittany Lions will operate at a quick pace from a spread set that will include quarterback runs, read options and more. This is the style James Franklin has wanted to run since arriving in State College..............."

If so, why did it take him so long to install it? He had an NFL-caliber QB to work with, so why the delay?

Not trying to defend Franklin, who I believe to be an a$$ clown of the highest order, but you would never run a spread with a drop-back QB like Hackensack. Franky inherited Hack and couldn't go to a spread as long as he was there. Benching him for a spread QB was not an option politically.

As Lou Holtz once said to Sebastian Janikowski when he chose FSU over ND, "son, you didn't make a 4 year mistake. You made a 40 year mistake."

That's what Hack did by choosing to go to PSU to be the guy that led the resurrection of PSU football in the post-scandal era. And he'll probably pay for that the rest of his life. That was a really bad fit for both parties.

hackensack made a decision based on O'Brien. Believing in Franklin was his mistake. Nelson is at RT. PSU has recruited some very good OL men the last two years but they will need a year of development. Not ready for prime time yet. Line backing is good but very suspect after those three. Secondary was bad last year at tackling and I think Smith is a bad coach and even worse person. He will cost Franklin big time.

Janikowski made enough money kicking a football that he is set for the rest of his life. He had a lot of fun doing it as well.

Hack should have transferred once Franklin was brought in and he saw his offense.

Excellent points and why I put up Links so every angle, insight, and even bias is analyzed to gain a prediction on the game's outcome and discuss the pros and cons for the future.

To your own point on Big Ten Blog, i was amazed to find Scout's CFN Analysis of having PSU going 9-3 losing only to UM, OSU, and Indiana? PITT going 7-5 and losing to PSU, OKSU, UNC, Clemson, and Miami? CFN feels PSU Moorhead will have no problem at all and PSU OL will just instantly show up with a QB but not so for Pitt, Iowa, and MSU and I won't Link it due to that being disrespectful to Rival and Chris Peak.

I would like to see a Big Ten Blog and The CFN Prediction dealing with some negatives on why Penn State could actually have a 5-7 year just like Moorhead had when putting in his Offenses? You make a great point its a fluff piece!

On your other point, I do see Franklin made the same mistakes that Dave Wannstedt made when he came to Pitt and many Sports Experts & Writers predicted Instant Success even that year with Pitt going 9 to 10 Wins.

Coach Dave took a Walt Harris West Coast Offense and went to a Pro Set without no Big Lineman needed to do it and even less Talent at QB under Cavnaugh Coaching and he too went 5 wins and changed OC later. Same when graham took over and then used Wannstedt Pro Set and tried to use his No Huddle High Octane and reverted back to the Pro Set Hybrid confusion and then just left his Players and Pitt. Same with CoachRod when taking over Michigan years ago and tried to install his system that takes time recruiting and developing his Players and teaching it, but with losing seasons or mediocrity at first sight?

All three examples of Wannstedt, Graham and Franklin not adapting their talent to their systems. Unlike Coaches Kelly, Dantonio, and Harbaugh that took over Programs at Central Michigan, UCincy, MSU, ND, Stanford, 49'ers, and Michigan and adapted the System to the Players and won with the Players they had on hand, not trying to make them adapt to some system without having the talent to do it?

I find Narduzzi in the category of a Dantonio, Kelly, and Harbaugh category and Franklin in Wannstedt, Graham, and CoachRod category and now starting over again going possible 5-7 or 6-6, 7-5 or perfecting what he has right now with Barkley and McSorley/Stevens or going 8-5 to 9-3 right away? We shall see?

Excellent Post! Thank You!

Glad you weighed in, and below my first response agrees with your excellent analysis. The only reason why Franklin went 7 Wins was due to his schedule more than his winning coaching, and Shoop Defense was outstanding and Pry has to match it now?

As Lou Holtz once said to Sebastian Janikowski when he chose FSU over ND, "son, you didn't make a 4 year mistake. You made a 40 year mistake."
LOL! Kind of reminds me how Coach Davie took over ND and tried to make a Pocket Passer run an Option QB out of Powlus. The same with Paterno when he went through his 4 of 5 Loss Seasons. He had Zack Mills a great Pocket Passer run the Option and get Hurt often, while trying to make a Big Fast Mike Robinson a Pocket Passer and who could have run the Option better??? I used to scratch my Head on that one but of course Jay Paterno was QB Coach and later his coaching on Morelli was even worse but why one should never hire relatives or sons to have a job?

Franklin adapting a Top 5 Star QB Recruit Big Ten Player of the Year to his Spread System with no OL he needed like you and PP said above was not samrt coaching. O'Brien was smarter than Franklin and Paterno as far as i am concern?

That's what Hack did by choosing to go to PSU to be the guy that led the resurrection of PSU football in the post-scandal era. And he'll probably pay for that the rest of his life. That was a really bad fit for both parties.
According to BWI Board, Hack not doing well at Jets right now, and for Blue Whining Idiot Board use that as proof it was on Hack. Yet, I think otherwise, I just think Hack needs a little time to recover from Franklin's Poor Coaching and may some therapy too with how Franklin messed with Hack's Mind on the Sidelines and interfered with Donovan and his other longtime Staffers.

Now it is Moorhead, Limegrover, Pry & Banks turn on the Helter Skelter coaching of Jimmy Frankie's Talk & PR, but less Doing & Domination?

I just know Hack showed all the skills of becoming a great QB under O'Brien but then again O'Brien passed on his in this past Draft and my confidence in Hack is also overrated, as pointed out all of last 2 years? I still like him and thinks he just needs the right coaching, but we shall see?

Great post on FB as usual thanks!

Agree, Hack should never went to Penn State but it was his Father's Dream he go there instilled in Hack as a former Cult Member. The same type of Father Tony Morelli had with believing the machinations of the Penn State Public Relations Machine built on Myths and Slogans. While ignoring Athletic Integrity Compliance's and Laws and now in ruins and requiring many Reforms. Hack and his Father could not wait for Hack to leave Penn State. As for Tony Morelli great Top 5 Star Arm, it never happen at PSU or the NFL too. Meanwhile, more salt in Morelli's Head as Moorhead credits Pitt Panther Think Tank for his success?

BWI PSU Cult Fans chasing away O'Brien was the bigger mistake and the attacking Erickson, Joyner, and Trustees bringing in Franklin but then loving Franklin's Recruiting without Winning and blaming NCAA, Nittany Liars, Media, and adoring John Ziegler while worshiping the Coach that required 2012 reforms is where the real problems lie at Penn State.

The Administration thinking a coach winning 10 games will solve everything, but so far, they are still waiting, and the Cult can't see the ignorance in their ways by attacking the University when it was their own Messiah Icon that caused these problems of division, derision, and used manipulation on them too, until caught by the Voices of Victims he ignored so he could win 409?

Gee, psu sounds great from that report. I'd expect them to run the table. Too bad we have to play them. As this lb squad the same as last year? I remember some ugly blowouts. Guess they had a great off season.

It is clear that many We Are Confident that Franklin now has Confidence in his Confident New OC, DC, & OLC that now are Confident that the Players are Confident that they will have Confidence by 2018 season.

As Confidence at and in Old Main are Preparing Approving More Confidential Sealing Agreements to remove Civil Lawsuits instead of preparing a Confident Extension for Franklin's Confidence in Penn State being Confident in him?

Meanwhile, the only Confidence I am reading is how Pitt, Michigan, Temple, Michigan, Maryland, Iowa, Ohio State and Michigan State are having a DEFCON High Defense Readiness Conditions for 2016.

DEFCON 1 COCKED PISTOL: Defeat Is Imminent & Maximum Readiness
Iowa:rolleyes:
Michigan:p
Ohio State:)
Michigan State:D

DEFCON 2 FAST PACE: Defensive Game Plans As Players Deploy And Engage
Pitt:rolleyes:
Temple:)

DEFCON 3 ROUND HOUSE: Increase Defense Readiness Above Expectations
Maryland:cool:

DEFCON 4 DOUBLE TAKE: Increased Intelligence & Strengthened
Rest Of Big Ten;)

DEFCON 5 FADE OUT: Lowest State Of Readiness New DC
Penn State:eek::mad::oops:

This is a good point. I dont think the line will be gelled by week 2 against us. They may be quite good by the end of the year, but I think we hammer whatever QB they put in. We will hit.... and hit hard.

Not saying it is an automatic win. It will be close just as any RIVALRY game is. If we blow them out, then clearly the are unrivaled. :)

Here is the latest view how that is going in Happy Valley:
Limegrover has made it a priority to avoid doing that by finding the best group early in camp before allowing them to gel late. At this point, the competitions seem to look like this:

Tackles: Noah Beh, Andrew Nelson, Brendan Mahon

Guards: Derek Dowrey, Connor McGovern, Michal Menet, Ryan Bates

Center: Brian Gaia, Connor McGovern

Nelson, a Hershey native, and Bates, a former four-star who now weighs in at 305 pounds after just one year on campus, seem to be shoo-ins for a tackle and guard spot, respectively. Gaia looks locked in at center, and Mahon will fill one spot, leaving young guns McGovern and Menet to battle it out for a starting spot in their first season, in all likelihood.
Both came to campus physically ready, and in McGovern's case, his January enrollment allowed him to experience an entire winter conditioning program and spring practice. According to Limegrover, each is working to fine tune the mental parts of the game now.

"I think both Connor and Michal are guys that, mentally, they came in and felt like they were guys that wanted to play right away, and physically they have that ability," he said. "The single biggest challenge is just the mental. When defense is going from three man front to four man front, and then they blitz one day, and then they're dropping back the next day, that's the part that gets on these guys' backs this time of camp.

`"I want to put them in the worst possible scenario and see how they respond."

Yeah I know all about Janikowski's career-but it was still a great quote. And Lou was right about this-it may not have impacted Janikowski's income, but FSU is a steaming hunk of dog shit of a school.

Well, that simply isnt true. Although certainly known for a party school, FSU does have some very good programs. I have worked on military programs with them and have had excellent experiences. For undergraduate degrees, most any college teaches the same content within probably 90%... so really it is on the individual student to make the most of it.
