Pitt Volleyball - 6:30 Tonight

It sucks we didn’t play our best, but this is the best 4 year stretch of any Pitt sports program in the last 40+ years.
They played great for 2 plus sets. Actually looked like they were the better team. Losing set 3 when they had it just crushed them. Played awful in set 4

Debeer was the best player on the court she willed Louisville to the win

This team is so dominant but clearly has some sort of mental block when it comes to playing in the final four. Doesn’t help that committee screwed us once again having to play on the road as a higher seed.
Still trying to understand that decision

What a fall season for Pitt

Football 7-0 to 7-5
Soccer #2 seed to lose to non ranked Vermont
Volleyball #1 pisses away set 2 & 3 to lose again

Heather Lyke be like FU Pitt fans & Chancellor - you deserve this after firing me!

Whoever won that 2nd set was destined to win this. Failing to score on 4 set points is hard to recover from. That said, I didn't expect us to give up and show no heart. This last set has been a beatdown by the Ville without their best player.
I agree. Win that second set, and it was there to be won. It was in their hands and they dropped it.

So frustrating.

Don’t know competitive volleyball at all but this felt like a match where Louisville adjusted to Pitt and Pitt had no answers or Pitt lost themselves and couldn’t fight back and “find their game.” Was really rooting for these girls. Great season, nonetheless.

There are no moral victories. What you say is true, but 4 consecutive failures to reach the title game, to me, is not offset by the 4 straight appearances. 33-1 and dominant all year should not be parlayed into another semifinal exit. No excuses, dig deep and close that 2nd set.

I feel like I've watched this same match in the final four at least once before. We try to outwork and outmuscle teams, which is great and all and want to teach your kids to give it 100%, but it's hard to do that for an entire match against elite competition. I've seen Pitt go too hard in set 1 and just seems to not have the same energy or same bounce or same explosiveness in the next sets, like we are worn out.

As good as Babcock is she was outplayed by Debeers. Babcock is a fantastic player but her game is high risk high reward. When she’s on she’s a one women wrecking crew. When she goes cold she gives up points. Debeers game isn’t near as flashy or impressive be she’s steady eddy. Steady and consistent won the match

I feel empty and I’m just a fan. Can’t imagine how bad the players feel. What is especially bad is how they just totally collapsed in the fourth set with Debeer out

Yeah that’s not going to happen. Volleyball is a niche sport at the end of the day. They need to put this event in a city where they know it will be supported.
It’s one of the fastest growing sports and it isn’t hard to play it in Chicago, Indianapolis, or some other major city that is a neutral site that is easily accessible.

They've never played it in Chicago and it's only ever been in Indianapolis, the NCAA capital of the country, one time, almost 40 years ago.

It's almost as if the people who run the arenas in cities like that aren't particularly interested in bidding on the games.

Maybe as the sport increases in popularity more places like that will put in bids. But they aren't going to play the games in places where people aren't showing any interest in hosting.

Ville was due, bad feeling on a one-seed losing 3 straight to Pitt... they are huge, and their sole small hitter can jump out of the gym, they put up a wall up there, and Pitt couldn't block anyone... after their run on the second set, they were, by miles, the most dominant, athletic and hungry team... haven't seen Pitt play like they did once all season, not even in their one loss. Still too talented, young... they'll hunt again next season... no one leaves + $$$, 2026 could prove even better... Olivia, Kyla and Torrey + the middle blocker/hitter they recruited this yr. + possibility of highly rated transfers...

We already beat them twice this year. Why did this happen? And we played a tough schedule all year. Beating ranked teams all year.
because like all NC sites they are established years in advance and. you can’t just change that because the home team makes it there

when this was chosen, Louisville had never been to the final 4 group

It’s amazing the demographic difference between. The Pitt Louisville teams and the Nebraska Penn st teams
Isn't the goal to find the best players regardless of demographic? I would say all 4 of these teams have done that since this is the Final Four. It isn't shocking that a school in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania and a school in Nebraska attract a different demographic than two city schools. It isn't like the PSU and Nebraska coaches aren't trying to get the best players regardless of demographic. I'm struggling to understand the actual point of this post other than to imply there is some sort of racist agenda. Nebraska has won a bunch of recent national titles, maybe they have recruited the best players regardless of "demographics" just like most of the recent national champions in college football and basketball which lean disproportionately to a certain demographic.

Heather's curse or the new AD? Has Pitt football won a game since he's been hired?

Are you trying to imply that black athletes don’t n volleyball are less likely to go to rural school and white athletes less likely to go to urban schools? Not sure what you are trying to say. The number of national championships in this late game is impressive

Yes that is generally the point. Nebraska would take Olivia Babcock in a heartbeat. They aren't recruiting white players because they are white. They are the best players in the country that want to spend 4 years in Nebraska just like Pitt is recruiting the best possible players regardless of race. Do you really think the Nebraska coach cares how much melanin his players have? He wants to win not field a team of white players. I am white but I grew up in a large metro area. Im not spending 4 years in Lincoln regardless of how good they are. It is a statistical fact that people of color tend to live in large metro areas. My wife is biracial (dad black, mom white) and grew up in West Virginia, guess where she went to school......shocker WVU. I wouldn't go to WVU if they paid me a $1M NIL

You realize she was a transfer from PS when Russ Rose retired right?

Olivia Babcock transfered? I am admittedly not a big follower of women's college volleyball so I did not know that. With that said, I don't think the vast majority of people consider the demographic profile of their teams. They go where they have a chance to win and want to live. Generally speaking most people are either city people or like living in nature. Whether you are white, black, Asian or Hispanic you should live where and how you want to live and you feel happy. If that is Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Louisville, or State College who cares. It just so happens most people who are accustomed to living in cities like living in cities and people who are from rural areas tend to like rural areas. Different strokes for different folks. Why does everything have to be about race? Maybe just view people as people and great athletes as great athletes and not constantly drone on about their melanin content. I couldn't care less about what color the Pitt players are I just want the best players who want to come to Pitt.

Rose retired in 2021. Babcock was a Freshman at Pitt in 2023.

The athletic ability the players from all four teams displayed was off the chart impressive. Any of those schools was capable of winning the championship.
I was hoping for an all-PA title game just because it would be interesting.
