Pitt vs Louisville - Volleyball Game Thread

What does that mean? Consistently top 4 in the country year after year. I take that same old Pitt any day.
It’s not a knock on our Vball program.

SOP simply is something we’ve lived our entire lives as fans of the athletic Dept.

Well, we literally went down swinging. Didn’t seem to adjust the strategy at all.

Louisville was definitely on fire with their blocking and digging but when you keep slamming your head against a wall and refuse to stop……

H2P

We had a clear path for two national titles this year in men’s soccer and in women’s volleyball.

We didn’t win one.

It’s a Pitt thing.

Embrace our DNA.

Lol.

No moral victories here. This can’t happen against a team we beat in this building 3-1 just a few weeks ago. After four straight final four chokes they’re absolutely open to any criticism thrown their way.

We should have swept them
Absolutely. This team lacks something. I don’t know what it is but they lack something. You can’t lose when you are up 23-19. You shouldn’t lose when you were up like we were in Set 2. And it took us 4 set points to win Set 1.

When we had service on set points, they either were errors or powder puffs easy for Louisville. Every damn one.

I think a serious conversation needs to happen about having the final 4 at a neutral site. The #1 overall seed should NOT have to play a true road game in the tournament
Didn’t Pittsburgh host a Final 4 recently? Honest question… maybe I’m thinking of the Frozen Four

Agreed, Especially VB. Had several chances to close out 2 & 3 and our best players didn’t get it done. It happens but it hurts to let it get away.

But how are you going to avoid that? The only way to guarantee that there isn't a home town team in the Final Four is to play it in places where the sport isn't a big deal. And the NCAA still wants to sell tickets. They aren't going to play the games in Boise, Idaho in front of 2,000 people.

It's weird but I noticed all season, coming out of time-out, the other teams seemed to score fairly often. Same mentality...let back in the match or no "killer instinct" something is off there.

This is no different than the basketball tournament. These sites are set 3-4 years out. We hosted in 2019.

We flat out choked. We didn’t play well last weekend either until the end of UK. We played our worst volleyball of the season at the end because we seemed tight. Great game 1 then suddenly we were squeezing it again. What can you say? Winning it all is hard.

Our serving wasn't good tonight. Louisville handled them relatively easy. That first hit is so crucial and Louisville seemed to always put it where it needed to go.
Tip of the cap to them, they dodged a huge bullet in the first round and gutted it out. They wanted to get to their home court in the finals, and they did it.

Except that the home team doesnt have the ability and opportunity to gobble up the majority of tickets for the hoops tourney. There can be some partisanship, but never a full blown home crowd

This one hurts. It really hurts. I really feel for our seniors. Especially Rachel as I respected the hell out of everything she did for this program.

Louisville won this. We didn’t lose it. Their defense was the difference.

Although I’m so tired in these national semifinals never seeming to get our opponents out of system with our service game.

Now that we are done, let’s go portaling tonight and get a head start on Nebraska and Louisville.

Fair point.

But it still remains that the #4 seed having legit home court advantage without having earned it is an absurdity
