Pitt vs Miami Gamethread

not a good Miami team

Clemson then well...

air.
I am not sure if I've ever seen a coach that pissed at a correct call double down on it like that when it was so obvious. Coaches do a lot of silly things for sure when it comes to challenges but he might as well have just called a timeout to flip out more if that if that is what he wanted to do. Miami looks like crap.

Yellen isn't afraid to throw it downfield at least. Looks like a nice arm. I know he'll throw some picks but there is little alternative considering the debacle of the running game.

All these short kicks today, no problem, but that extra point last week... :(

Sure would be nice if the D didn’t have another blown coverage. Though most of Miami’s points have been where they started with a short field.

There is nothing, and I mean literally nothing, that Belville has shown in his limited time that ought to make anyone think that he would be a better choice than Yellen.

That doesn't mean that he might not be, just that there is no actual evidence that that is the case.
It was called back, but Beville completed a pass that was a better thrown ball than Yellen had come close to throwing at that point. Since then Yellen has continuously gotten bailed out by his receivers and the Miami defense.

Im not saying Beville is already an all-conference caliber player and he should be the new starter. But they put him in for a series, he looked comfortable, and they go back to the guy who was lobbing up softballs, misfiring on screens, and can’t even move quickly enough to throw the ball away.

If Pickett were in today and getting the help from his receivers that Yellen is (that Pickett never gets), he’d have damn near 400 yards passing and 4 TDs already.

Or Pickett scrambles on half of those plays or throws balls with zero touch that his receivers don't make a play on. Yellen is making some nice plays when plays are designed to go down field.

I disagree. Yellen is absolutely the right choice at this time. He is playing a decent game up to this point. Beville is too green right now.

Since early in the second quarter, so a little less than two full quarters of game time, Yellen is 14-21 for 205. So over not quite a full game that would work out to 24-42 for 410 yards. And he's done that with his number one running back having a grand total of 0 yards on 9 carries.

And you think that's not good enough?

Wow.

Yellen is doing what most on the board want Pickett to do. He is trying to hang in the pocket. He is not locking in on the primary receiver. He is trying to keep his eyes down field and give his receivers time to get open. I am not saying he is better than Pickett, but coming out of high school he was a highly ranked pro-style QB not a dual threat or running QB. With the o-line and running struggles the way they are I think he is doing Ok.

Serious question, are you somehow connected to Beville or his family/friends/coaches in some way?

Yellen has obviously been far from perfect, but considering the circumstances he has played about as well as can be expected to this point. Pitt is in position to win this game with a big 4th quarter, something few thought coming in.

Beville has been in the system almost 2 years now, if the coaches thought he was the best option he’d be in there.

The last 2 seasons Pitt has scored 3 points (2018) and 12 points (2019) against Miami, it’s not like this team has had a lot of recent success against them.

Pitting. Drops untimely penalties missing extra points. Whatever it takes to steal defeat from the jaws of victory

Anyone can read a stat sheet. Did you not see the last several completions? Made an awful throw that Wayne made a great catch on for a big completion. Why are you assuming because the receiver caught it it was automatically a good pass?

It sure seems like he must be, right?

If everyone on this team was playing as well as Yellen has for the last two quarters we'd be winning. And I'm not sure it would even be close.

Are you factoring in all these drops as completions and yards passing? Heck - give him another passing TD for V Davis falling out of bounds on his own at the 4.
