Pitt vs VT - Game 3

2-1 VT
Top of 6
The ACCN should have kept the Pitt game on for certain markets. They did it for a basketball game, so they have the capability.

Just not a good weekend on the diamond so far. Baseball in danger of getting swept and softball did get swept in 4 games against a mediocre Syracuse team. Maybe home isn't where the heart is.

Are we allowed to just play all our games on the road? By far the worst series of the year and Yanni gets hurt.

Hate to say it, but this weekend looks like the Pitt team expected to finish last in the Coastal.

Just when you think they are back in the game, Yanni gets hurt fielding a groundball. Popa runs the wrong way on a hit and run and they throw the ball wildly all over the park.

Maybe we need to stay on the road.

About Cost Field's artificial surface.... Is the brown "dirt" the same material as the green "grass"? How do they handle the sliding pits, batter's box and front of the pitcher's mound, which are traditionally a mix of loam and clay? Looks like a very nice park. Is it a hitter's park most of the time with the prevailing wind blowing to right field?

Yes it's the same material. I heard this was done to help with maintenance.

Sitting on top of the hill the wind usually does cut across the park to RF, benefiting left handed hitters.

When a batter "digs in" at the plate all he does is kick up the plastic pellets that they always use on those types of turf fields.

By the way, the Pirates announced today that when they are at home their "satellite" players will be practicing at Cost.
