Jamie will be remembered ( currently ) as Pitts best bb coach . He unarguably gave us the best bb yrs of the program history in the Big East . The only think lacking for HOF consideration is his teams lack of post season success . He was a micro manager and his best teams were tough defensive and rebounding squads . The change in conference affiliation took the starch out of his career here . Trying to adapt to ACC play , his recruiting which never matched the success of his program , fell of the map . Jamie needed a change of scenery and his move to TCU was just what the Dr ordered .
Kevin Stalling was the wrong guy at the wrong time ( or anytime ! ) . From day one he wasn’t the guy anyone wanted . His honest comments about his players just set people off in the wrong direction . He had a moderately successful career with some good NCAA results and having coached some NBA players . He had enough talent his first yr here to have far better results and last season was just disastrous . The future didn’t show much promise for the radical improvement needed . Pitts fans revolted and left Pitt with little choice , but to move on . His teams seemed to play an unorganized style of ball simply passing the ball around the perimeter until someone chunked up a bad shot and forget rebounding . He will not be missed except by Ray !
Jeff Capel has a tough job ahead of him to restock the Panther roster with guys who can compete . His past shows us that if anyone can he’s the man . Unlike KS or the ACC Jamie he has something to prove . Having failed at Ok as a young coach and then having the opportunity to be Coach K’s top assistant are all pluses . He’s hungry to show the bb world what he can do . His communication skills are off the charts , the honesty and sincerity are obvious . Pitt hired the right man , now he just needs to make a few good hires and go sale the program to guys neither Jamie or KS had any chance at signing . Things are looking
up .
