Pittsburgh dad sucks

Some of his skits are funny
That was was painfully awful
Agreed. He’s largely unfunny, but he has grown on me...slightly. Some of the old Pittsburgh retro references I appreciate. I liked the skit where he drove around looking for Pizza Hut but he couldn’t find any because they’ve all been turned into doctors offices and pawn shops. So then he decides to go to Long John Silvers instead, but had no luck there as well. He finally gave up and decided on going to Ponderosa.

Maybe it is but we have enough of our own fans as critics and little to no support from casual fans. We certainly don't need anyone spouting off about the Stillers - IN THE MIDDLE OF A TELEVISED PITT GAME. It was inappropriate and not funny to boot.

I agree but I highly doubt Pitt suggested it.

Thank you. God bless him, but he was so bad and he kept going and going and I was just like, ”For the love of God, someone please pull the plug on this poor fella already.”

His Pittsburghese schtick has indeed run its course. It was a smidge charming at first, now it just kind of grates on your ears like a pulsating car alarm that no one seems to be able to shut off.
Like the actual yinzer dialect :)

I sure hope they didn't. But how does he get on the sideline without their ok?

You think ESPN is asking Pitt for permission? I am not going to act like an insider as I have no clue about the inner workings of it. What I do know is when TV tells the NDs/ Alabama/LSU/Ohio St"s of the world jump, they all do. So if the big boys jump to tv money, what do you think Pitt does?

The whole thing was so bizarre and just uncomfortable to watch. I had never heard of him and I’m guessing 95% or more of viewers were just as confused as I was with the whole thing. I’d be curious as to who thought that was going to be so hilarious. It almost reminded me of some kind of old WWF skit or something with bad acting.

I think we just got closer to our answer of how this made air. Pat McAfee probably suggested it. As much Love he threw towards Pittsburgh, he is still a Mountaineer. He probably thought it was hysterical.

I knew who he was, but I'm sure 110% of the UNC fans had no idea.

It was a bad look all around, because I'm sure UNC fams thought he was someone that Pitt fans like, considering this was a Pitt home game.

Years ago, I remember seeing a 30 second skit with Pittsburgh Dad and being bemused by it. Honestly, I found it kind of cute and mildly amusing - like you would at a network sitcom like Young Sheldon or Black-ish or whatever. It’s not really funny but it is somewhat charming.

Then, I saw another skit and I was like, “Okay, this has probably gone far enough.”

Then I saw another one. Then I saw flood more of them and it just gets more and more annoying. Nothing ever grows from it and if you’ve seen one Pittsburgh Dad skit, you’ve seen them all.

I’m still a live and let live kind of guy and if there are people out there who still like it, good for them. Also, good for this guy to make a buck on such a limited character with such a limited audience.

However, when I see him, I change the channel take care of an errand because I’ve already seen that skit a good 87 times.

Didn't see glad I didn't he sucks and the media should ignore him
Why? I like Pittsburgh to be considered what his stereotype shows. That's why Pittsburgh is great, it's not a generic American town full of generic people.

I'm sure the vast majority of Pitt fans love him, I'm from Pittsburgh and I don't know anyone that doesn't get a good laugh out of Pittsburgh Dad.

I'm from Pittsburgh and I know plenty who don't. It was funny the first few times. Now just makes us look like idiots. And I made sure my kids NEVER talk like that.

I always try to make sure that I keep some Pittsburgh accent, I don't want to sound like a generic American news anchor.

The thing that makes Pittsburgh dad kinda weak is the same thing had been done with multiple other cities and their dialects as well.

Saturday Night Live had the Chicago Bears guys decades ago, have also seen parodies of Philly guy, New York guy, and Wisconsin guy.

Nobody thinks the Pittsburghese gag is funny anymore, especially when you go to another city and they all have their own guys doing the exact same bit.

There was an episode of The Simpsons where Homer bowled a 300 and became a local celebrity after his 15 minutes of fame faded he does everything to get it back and everyone in Springfield gets sick of him. Pittsburgh Dad is pretty much Homer in the second half of that episode.

When Pittsburgh Dad was more about “Dad” stuff with a Yinzer twist it was funny, once it became about watching Steeler games and name dropping Pittsburgh locations and celebs it jumped the shark.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. I lived there for 23 years and still come back very often because literally all of my family still lives there. But, for the life of me (and believe me, I’ve tried, especially when friends have asked) I can’t talk like a yinzer. I can’t be the only one?

I am just upset we didn't get the requisite, molten steel ladle being dumped with sparks and I beams being formed.......

Also surprised we didn’t hear the prescripted...

These Pitt Panthers play with a “blue collar” mentality so we can expect a real “Smashmouth” type of game.”

(Feel free to interchange the world “Panthers” with “Steelers” for NFL games)

You are right. In addition to him just not being funny that night, he selfishly focused on his own agenda... and in the process succeeded in making Pitt football, the city of Pittsburgh and himself look bad all within two very long minutes

I'm glad Pittsburgh is weird n'at, and not like some generic American city, it's great that it's quirky and full of crap, and has it's own dialect that makes other people from other places scratch their heads n'at.

Cmon man, almost every major city has their own version of that guy, it’s nothing unique or original.

It's like any comedy series, if enough people think it's funny, it will succeed. He has sponsorships, including Iron City Beer, so he must be getting great ratings, most people I know love his skits. People on this board are just mad because he characterized a Pitt game honestly.

Nobody is mad

it was just painfully unfunny

The part that was funny was that he thought he was getting cheap Steelers tickets! LOL

If it was say 5min into the 1st QTR, yes that could have been funny. Doing it 5 minutes into the 3rd Qtr, not only was it not funny, it was down right stupid.
