some players don't want the ball at all

some players you can see them short arm the ball because they can't handle the pressure

some players demand the ball

The players that demand the ball come in many shapes and sizes

A Curry, Lebron, Wade, Harden etc are superstars. They are going to take that last or important shot, and most often because of their talent, they are going to make it.

Some players think they are that superstar when they are not. A good while ago there was a terrific guard at Notre Dame (I think his name was Thomas - very light skinned black kid). You could bet 100% he was going to take the important shot. The problem was everyone knew that. Despite being very good, he failed most times because his talent was not good enough to compensate for the certainty that he would not give the ball up. Players need to realize who they are and what their limitations are and play accordingly.

Some players know they are not a superstar but are going to find a way to win anyway.A player like that is Brandin Kniight. Brandin was no where near as talented as Thomas.but Brandin did have a will to win that was immeasurable. At the end of games, I wanted the ball in Brandin's hands. Somehow, he would make certain something good would happen.

A coach needs to know his roster and act accordingly. Does he have a Harden, a Thomas or a Knight. Realizing who you have is often the difference between winning and losing at crunch time.

Levance Fields was one of those players as well. He simply made plays at the end of games. Obviously the Duke MSG shot being one of his most memorable ones.
