i couldn't watch the game. had to take the kids to a bday party. game was just finishing as we left and i got the post-game interview with bill, dick, coach, and some other guy (don't know who - sounded like a younger fellow).
couple things:
1. groat went into the officiating. he made mention the last minute of the game as well. dick is a great homer so i never take the officiating concerns with much consideration. he said to coach that he could tell that he was "frustrated." JC said that was true but then went into coach-speak, around controlling what you can control. but his initial reaction was akin to, "hell yeah." so i thought there may be some credence to it. it's been a rough run from ACC refs. when you lose 9 in a row, the little things have to add up.
2. JC talking about losing again. billy leads him that it was a great effort against a very good opponent. it was a good response about it being a good effort but it's "not good enough." and then the usual coach stuff. but young guy interviewer said there is some carryover from last year. some "different expectations." and JC was in complete agreement. again, he quickly went into a very good response but he had a visceral reaction to the wording of, "different expectations." as in, clearly there was a poor culture last year. we all know it, obviously. but it was so striking in the way he said it. you could just hear it in his voice.
