Anyone know who the QB transfer may be that Pitt is eyeing up? Where’s he from?

Would like Davis B. to get meaningful reps with the one's in spring against the returning one's on D. Patti as well. Duzz can look at his tape of Pickett all he wants in the film room and that's what he should expect going into the summer. The only thing that may improve is the receiving corps. Pickett will always struggle with the limited RPO plays and progression reads. He's not a natural. Look at the tape. He's not.

Pickett will have started 27 games by the time next season starts. I’d say he has the job locked up.

If someone comes here and shows they’re better they’ll play. As they should. I don’t think Pickett is horrible but you need better play from the QB. Pickett needs to work hard on his accuracy. Hopefully he’ll drill it to death and improve.

There better be a damn QB competition in the spring, and not just entitling Pickett with the job again.

He needs to earn the job.

Sorry but I never understand this viewpoint. Why would a coach not start his best players? Your theory is there is a better QB on roster? They compete everyday in practice. Narduzzi has always been the type of coach where you have to prove yourself in practice. Maybe this is why we have so many injuries?

the background on this kid is impressive. A former 4 star who will sit out a year and then have 3 yrs. his numbers were impressive in is only game played. He is behind another talented young QB. It looks like the job will not be handed to Beville and he will have to earn it. I think that’s what you wanted

I still think if the receivers would catch the damn balls that hit them in their hands, we wouldn't be having this conversation!
I agree!
Maybe someone should remind them they actually have to catch the ball.

Things are changing fast these days so its worth a reminder.

Pickett having a huge breakout season next year would be huge for recruiting. I hope that he and our receivers van put it together.

Macchiato I think that you are spot on. What coaches aren't going to put their best players on the field at each position. How would it benefit to sit someone who is out performing a starter in practice?

Its a Pittsburgh thing. No matter what - the backup QB is always better and the coaching staff are all idiots

Plus.........

Pickett should have been a redshirt junior this coming season. Playing him his freshman season was a$$inine.

Then he had multiple offensive coordinators over his tenure. Could never develop any consistency on scheme, reads, or terminology.

Then he had several make shift offensive lines to deal with. Duzzi needs to recruit and develop better OL-men.
A good OL cures a lot of ills.

Hold on. Tino gets bashed constantly on this board to this day and he had 3 Head Coaches and 4 OCs with a poor line. Yet you want me to feel bad for Pickett who has had 1 HC and 2 OCs?

Get the he'll out of here with that crap.

Pickett is not the biggest problem with this team but he is still a problem.

1) There are a lot better sports options on TV right now.
2) Good for him. He is playing at the right level.

1) Nobody is telling you watch it.

2) Pickett should join him at that level.

3) he is getting better coaching down there because he improved dramatically.

1) Watching their game last week was like watching paint dry.

2) Pickett is better than DiNucci.

3) The difference is level in competition. His arm strength and mannerisms were the same. There was no magic wand by their coaches.

1) your opinion and I'm sure others will agree and others will disagree.

2) not really. They both have things they are good at and things they are not. I think they are fairly even and Pickett is at the wrong level also.

3) that plays a role for sure, but without question he got coached up and you can tell he put the work in to improve. To deny that you have an agenda or lack knowledge.

If you don’t think every day of practice is a competition at every position, you probably never played a team sport in your life.

You may not think much of Pickett, and I for one don’t myself, but he’s starting because he’s the best option we have. This idea of playing a favorite over the better player comes from a total lack of understanding of how the world of competitive athletics works.

For instance, who do you think should have been playing on front of Pickett this season?

I don’t know what to say to anyone that actually thinks DiNucci is even close to Pickett. They either don’t watch the games or have no clue as to what they’re seeing.

Agree 100%
If our TE and WR's could hold on to the ball this is not even a discussion.

Can anyone give me the rundown on this Yellen QB? Haven’t heard about this until now. Would he be an upgrade over Pickett?

True Frosh QB for ASU who competed for the starting spot but was beat out by another Frosh....so he didn’t want to sit or wait for an injury etc. Played in one game. They lost the game he had 4 TD & 2 INTs. Key INT on the final drive. True pocket passer. Rivals had him as 3 star and 24/7 had him as 4 star. He got a late Georgia offer but otherwise not a lot of big offers. None of the 4 CA (he’s from CA) PAC 12 schools offered.

Seems to have nice ability if you watch some of the video from the one game he played in. Any comp is always good. I think Beville has nice potential but who knows. And no Beville does not seem like the type who is afraid of comp.

He would have zero impact on Pickett as yellen would not be eligible next year. He would come in, sit out a year and compete with Beville and Patti for the starting job in 2021.

In essence he is essentially the QB recruit in this year's class "redshirting" a year

Thanks, I just assumed he’d be grad transferring. Interesting.

This would be big for Whipple. I don't like the offense, but if it becomes effective who cares how it gets done? The redeeming quality of the offense, IMO, is the obvious allure to QB's and WR's who want to be involved in an offense that relies a ton on the passing game. So it is essential that high quality QB recruits be brought in and so far it is not working out....thus my opening statement..........

Is it wise to announce our intentions for this qb or any other or should we quietly go about our business? What purpose does it serve? If we miss do we also look foolish? just thinking

Agree 100%

It would be less but I still think it’s discussed. It’s been beaten to death but his lack of accuracy is an issue. Both with incompletes and yards left on the field due to not being in stride. Sometimes his balls aren’t as easy to catch as they should be.

Others have said and I agree - on a team with a lot of talent Pickett would be seen as a lot better. There’s just a lack of talent everywhere you look on the offensive side of the ball.

You don't believe the coach ever plays a favorite over a better player? You don't believe a local star ever gets preference? You don't believe your most ballyhooed recruits get preference?

You never played on a team and never wondered why someone was playing over someone else (not yourself)?
