HCJC’s first two recruits reestablished Pitt ties to the talent rich DC area, Hargrave is a well known haven for national talent (Sam Young and Trey McGowans). A strong relationship with Bishop O’Connell (Xavier Johnson) puts Pitt in the center of DC scholastic basketball scene. O’Connel’s head coach Joe Wooten is the son of legendary DaMatha (Adrian Dantly, Bob Whitmore, James Robinson) head coach, who for years ran The elite Mason Dixon Basketball Camp. To put the Wotten’s Importance to DC basketball in perspective, when UCLA coach John Wooden was asked how he felt being the best basketball coach of all time, he answered with.... “I am not the best basketball coach, Morgan Wooten is!” Joe Wooten is following in his fathers footsteps, and HCJC is very wise to build his program with a DC-Wooten connection. The connection will flourish and return Pitt to greatness if Pitt and its fans supports and grows their former athletes with a stable value oriented program. Congratulation Coach Capel, you have quickly made a believer out of me!

Things are certainly looking up. Aside from the last 2 seasons, over the last two decades Pitt has consistently had really good players who weren't necessarily big-name recruits (outside of a few like Adams, Blair, Fields, Young... ). The program took more of the developmental route and Dixon did a good job getting the most out of his players. The key will be if Capel can not only get good players into the program, but then coach and develop them. That will be fun to watch.

If Joe Wooten produces half the talent his father did then it is good to get connected early.
