Recruiting

Results from Recruits:

West Region:
Sloboda won the west region at 127
Fanella won the west region at 133 and beat Willochell again
Petrovich at 152 lost by Fall in the Semis to Whitebred from State College (Was 8-8 at the time) and took 3rd. Whitbred took second to Shaw.
(Luckily Whitbred is a guy I think we have a real shot at getting in addition to Petrovich coming next season)
Marlow dominated his way to the 172lb finals where he got teched by Cunningham
Elijah Brown won at 215
Turk (Football Recruit) won the region at 285

Elsewhere:
Tristan Steldt won a WI State Title at 165
Karson Brown won his region at 126
Carson Walsh took second in the region (losing to Lehigh Commit Quenault)
Thank you for sharing this!

State Quarterfinals
Sloboda loses 6-0 to a good soph, Ballard from Northampton. Seemed like Santino kept losing focus in the first, adjusting his equipment and getting caught off balance while wrestling was live. The second or third time this happened Ballard got the takedown. Then Santino chose bottom against his corner's advice and got ridden out giving up 2 back points lol. Ballard wrestled a really tough national schedule and took double-digit losses this year but clearly had the experience edge here because of it.

Fanella wins 15-0. He has a tall Phillippi kind of build at 133 so might project to 141?

Petrovich wins 13-11, looked pretty rough, kept scoring pretty easily and then letting his opponent back into it. Semifinal opponent is Whitbred from State College who pinned EP at the regional.

Bode Marlow picks up another TF (2nd period I think?) and moves into the semis. I think he'll win the next one in similar fashion, and then it's Cunningham again in the state finals.

Elijah wins by TF in the first period. Cross wrist tilt for days. Not as much depth in the quarterfinals at these upper weight classes.

Marlow has a really good Brian Heard in his next match (beat Hutcherson 8-5 in a close one), that one will be tough.

Fanella made 127 earlier this year so he must have been cutting hard. I could see him being a 133 or 141 at the next level. His semi-final match vs Mutarelli is a match between the two best guys at the weight IMO.

Petrovich's match was sloppy but Carroll is really good, I think he gets Whitbred back in the Semi's but Whitbred is clearly legit and someone who will likely keep making jumps.

All four in Semi's are west region guys, Brown should win that bracket considering he has beat all of those guys already. Roman Thompson from Central Catholic is a guy we should be after simply because he goes to HS in Oakland already (and he is really good/is a younger upperweight).

Marlow dominates Heard 10-4.
Petrovich beats Whitbred 4-2
Brown wins 6-3 over Conroy.
Three Finalists from Pitt Commits.

Fanella lost 7-3 in the semi's to Mutarelli. Was down 4-3 going into the third when the very questionable choice of bottom was made. Got turned for 3 backs and ridden out. Will be the favorite to take third.

Football commit Turk lost in HWT semi's to tOSU football commit Roy.

Thanks so much. Maybe Pitt wrestling is getting some very good talent. Nit to be pushy, how are the out of state guys doing?

Love hearing that about Walsh. Look at Ballards opponents this year and you see why he won that match. Still love Slobado’s potential but he didn’t face near the competition Ballard had all season. Marlow looks like a man on a mission. Fanella should’ve had that match in the finals (Willochel who he beat that past two weekends is in the finals). Brown needs to do it one more time he is looking great
I’m not betting on Petrovich but I wouldn’t be shocked

Santino and Nico both cruised through their consolation matches and won 3rd. Pitt has three committed finalists (starting at 4pm):

Petrovich, 152
Marlow, 172
Brown, 215
Are the finals on tv or streaming?

Results Roundup:
127: Sloboda took 3rd, the guy he lost to took 2nd
133: Fanella took 3rd, the guy he lost to won, he beat the second place guy 2x this year
152: Petrovich took 2nd losing to Shaw
172: Marlow took 2nd losing to Cunningham
215: Brown wins a state title at 215!

Other guys of note:
Heavyweight: Turk who is a football recruit is going for 3rd
189: State Champ Morrison is a UPJ commit

Non-PA guys:
Carson Welsh took second at 139 in NJ
Karson Brown has pinned/teched his way to finals and should win by similar fashion in finals
