Former Pitt soccer player, and is the head trainer for the Kansas City Chiefs. He began with the Steelers, was with Andy Reid and the Eagles-and moved with Reid to Kansas City. He is arguably the number one trainer in all of professional sports.Very interesting background and a great Pitt guy. Some of you might want to google and add to this(as my internet skills are very limited).

PS-If someone knows how to do it,go under Kansas City Chiefs staff-and scroll down to Rick’s profile and post it if you would -very impressive.

I believe Rick is friendly with Rob Blanc, the head PItt FB athletic trainer, so I dont see him replacing Rob.

Also, Rick is Pitt-friendly, and has hired assistant ATs from Pitt. Formerly with the Eagles, Rick hired Joe OPella, who stayed in Philly and is now the #2 AT with the Eagles.

Never meet the guy, but have spent 100s of hours with his dad who has been an Athletic Trainer with Carlisle High school for over 5 decades. I started teaching in Carlisle 20 years ago and Old Burky was already retired as a teacher, but still does training duties a good bit.

As a coach I talk to and see him often. Lot's and Lot's of stories, that is for sure.

Obviously, would be a great choice. Even though he might be a Pitt man, he has been away from Pitt for a long time, and is making mucho bucks in the NFL. Don't think Pitt would be willing to match that.
Great choice for what? Another job in the NFL? lol

His team's about to go to the super bowl and u think the man will take a demotion and come to Pitt?

Depends.
Next season who knows what happens.
Reid leaves and he might be out of a job in a place where he doesn't want to live.

At times people make life style choices.
Especially if he pockets some nice "walking around money" with this Superbowl opportunity.

Burky was my trainer at Carlisle back in my glory days, lol! Super nice guy!

Yeah, I am also confused by the OP's seeming suggestion that he should be hired by Pitt. We are all aware that Athletic Training and Stength and Conditioning Coaching are two COMPLETELY different professions and roles, right?

Burkie has a ton of stories...and they are never short. I don’t think he will ever retire. I also never met his son but if he anything like his dad I am sure he a great person.

Rick was one of my 'preceptors' (new term, not used in the '90s!) when I was an undergrad AT student. I can still remember him leaving for his first NFL job with the Steelers. What he's done for our profession is immeasurable and he still is very supportive of Pitt's AT program. This will be his 3rd trip to the SB (Steelers & Eagles) and I will be pulling hard for the Chiefs! H2P!!!
