RIP Harve74

Sad news . Had many private conversations with him and he will be missed . Far and away the poster I respected the most .
I had many private conversations with him as well. We often butted heads on the free board, but after he left that board, we developed a true understanding and respect for each other. We even disclosed de.tails of family disputes and other aspects of our personal life.

We had not communicated for a while, but he never indicated he was sick. Last time we talked, we talked about the trip he and his wife had taken. I don't think it was long ago.

It was June 5th of this year.

Many of us will miss him as a great fellow pitt fan and solid contributor to this site. For me, his posts always carried an extra bit of gravitas.

But for those of you who knew him personally, I am sorry for your loss.

Harve was a good guy and will be missed. I met him through the basketball board and would see him tailgating for most football games since he parked in our lot. He sat a few rows ahead of me for basketball too, so I did see him a good bit over the years. He was a really great, unique guy and a super Pitt fan. He'll be missed! Hopefully he was able to watch one last Pitt win on Saturday. If so I'm sure his last few hours were maybe a bit better than one would expect.

RIP.
He messaged me one time on this board and we had a nice convo.
Seemed like a cool guy.

Word from friends is he got to watch Pitt upset UCF on TV his last day on Earth.

A sincere gentle man and gentleman. Enjoyed sitting with him at Greentree many times and listening to his stories of his days at Pitt. He did not look at the world through blue and gold glasses but also was a true Pitt man.
Rest In Peace good sir. Rest In Peace.

This is a PM I received from his daughter this morning:

This is Harve74's daughter. On Friday, my father made the decision to stop treatments and come home on hospice. He wanted to be home with his family for as long as he could. He cheered and supported Pitt during their game on Saturday night. They even managed to give him one last victory. Last night, my father passed away peacefully at home with my mother beside him. He had a great day and was surrounded by family and friends. I just wanted to make you aware. Please feel free to share as you choose.

Hail to Pitt.

Thanks for sharing.

I’ve never met anyone on this board but always appreciated Harve’s comments. Was quite knowledgeable and reasonable. I too got a PM from him once and enjoyed the conversation.

Thoughts are with Harve’s family. Seemed like a great guy and just based on what’s posted above sounds like he was.

Thank you so much for this post. Harve was one of the best. It almost seems like he wrote the script for his last day. God bless him.
Hail to Pitt.

Thanks for posting this. I was actually looking for him during the game on Saturday - had run into him at halftime at a game last year and realized he was sitting a section over from me. I was in that same section on Saturday and assumed he might have kept the same seats, but was disappointed not to see him - the section was not so crowded that I would have missed him. Very sad to hear of his passing, but glad that he got to enjoy a last Pitt win.

He was a good man and a friend when I needed one back when I had just moved to the relative basketball desert of Pittsburgh and just wanted to talk about points per possession with someone. Knowing this was coming doesn't make this suck any less and the world is, on balance, a slightly worse place today.

Harve and I disagreed on everything and he has had me blocked for years but its sad anytime we lose big Pitt fans like him. I didnt know him personally but I don't think he was all that old. Very sad. Any Pitt basketball fan is fine by me even if we disagree.

I know he thought highly of you as well.

74 was the year he graduated.

I knew him well, and will miss him very much.

(You were at least both together in the same spot for one of our gamewatches.)
I'm sure we were, but I don't remember specifically meeting him.

Very sad news ...... my sincere condolences to his family and friends !

I enjoyed his thoughtful, insightful posts which opened up some good discussion on the board .... I miss them already.

He private messaged me a couple times and I enjoyed the interaction.

I didn't know him personally but felt a bond with him on the "lair" probably because we went to Pitt about the same time (Harve 74, I believe, was an undergraduate from 1970-1974 while I was an undergraduate then post-graduate student from 1967-1975) ........ I could tell that we had a lot of similar memorable experiences at Pitt in the classroom, on the intramural fields, and watching Pitt's varsity sports along with a continued support, pride, and love of Pitt and Pitt athletics since graduation.

Harve74, RIP and God Bless ....

I he was very knowledgeable on this board regarding hoops ( he stuck out since there are few on here with a decent hoop IQ).
Strangely, the post from a family member was comforting. Surrounded by loved ones and going out on his own terms. I hope the “Pitt Special” was his last glimpse of Pitt sports
(Imagine going out without another “pitting” moment).
God Speed Harv!

Thanks for sharing. We also traded PMs.

My condolences to his family in this difficult moment. Glad to hear that he got to watch a nice Pitt victory before he passed.
