I knew the guy who wrote that for him.Phil Musick was some things I think I think.
yepThe recent passing of friends California Panther, geno2u and Harve74 got me thinking about the days way back on the "original" Pitt sports message board -- Frank Sokol's Unauthorized Pitt Sports Message Board.
I'm not exactly sure when it started, but I got turned onto it in the middle of the 1996-1997 basketball season by a good friend (now known as @sumomann).
At the time, you didn't need to log on and/or sign in. One just posted a handle and some thoughts. It was a lot of fun and a little crazy at times. Posts from Pitt Football and Pitt Basketball were combined all on the same board.
At the same time as Frank's Board, the "Panther In the Lion's Cow Pasture" Board was around, and many of us "originals" posted on both.
I know that Harve74 and California Panther were posters then. Some others who I believe shared in the fun were @Black Panther, @pittizit, @Sean Miller Fan (then Belle Vernon Panther, yes?), @Panthervision (then Lou), @plcp, @Bethlehemjohn, and of course, @NTOP . There were others I recall from those days -- The Old Panther, Midnight Panther, Infoman, Boston Panther, Allstar Inc., "brian," and Harry the Pitt Guru (who was our first Board Maven), just to name a few. On this board, we talked about our excitement in the hiring of Walt Harris, and the ups and downs of Ralph Willard, among other things.
If I'm not mistaken, Frank's original board shut down sometime in 1999 or so, and we all migrated over to the PLCP board for a time, This is when we first started sharing posts with geno2u. In 2001, I believe this turned into the Rivals Panther Lair that it is today. There was a pretty good Scout Board for a while too, but the Lair persevered.
Here's the roll call … let us know if you were a poster back on Frank Sokol's Grand Old Message Board (and what your "handle" was then, if different than now).
It was "Shadyside Scott". I actually met him at a couple of games. I think he was selling DVDs of games(???), took money but never sent out the DVDs.I have been posting since the Sokol/Harry Psaros days, all as mike412. I lack enough imagination to come up with another handle.
I think it was around the time that Snyder took over this board and ran it from Tennessee that t a private/semi-secret board started. I know quite a few of the old names here were on it. Before he got totally immersed in his sons’ hockey, Scott Procious (B-man) had great info on basketball. I had initially assumed he was black. What a surprise to find out that the B stood for Buffalo. For two years, a part of which was during the private board, Harry and I both had great sources for Pitt scoops — assistant coaches. We got a lot of scoops both then and when Harry subsequently started his own board. I used to email most of mine to Harry and let him post them.
My source would give me generic info on the recruit and Harry and I would have to put it together. I still remember being told that a DB from NE PA coal country had committed to Pitt. If we gave him a name he would say yes or no, but we had to come up with the names. For two months we tried to figure out who it was with zero success. I even emailed Mike Farrrell and asked him for a list of DBs from there who he thought had Big East potential. It turned out to be Sam Bryant. Pitt had discovered him at a summer camp.
I believe the Dale Williams fiasco, where his father, a huge PSU Booster, wouldn’t sign his LOI, happened back then too.
If I remember right what led to the demise of the private board was a scam by a member whose name was Scott (but not Procious). Whatever he was selling and not supplying effectively killed that board.
Speaking of douches, the biggest douche by far that I remember was "brian," who had such a high opinion of himself that he later changed his handle to "brian01." It seemed that he tried to own the board by smothering practically every post with a response and often multiple responses.Speaking of douches. Remember owtahere? LOL

I was there in the dial-up days, same handle only i had to add a "2" when during one of the Rivals changeovers I forgot my password and had to set up a new account. I don;t remember much about it except i thought that the board was either hosted or run by Harry P and/or CrazyPaco. Main reason I followed it was because that was the only and best place to get the Pitt recruiting and other news you couldn't get anywhere else, and I got tired of waiting for all the magazines--Street & Smiths, Sporting News, Athlons etc-- to hit the shelves. Pretty sure i was just a lurker for a long time before I got sucked into the vortex. Hundreds or thousands of hours of time and productivity wasted since.........The recent passing of friends California Panther, geno2u and Harve74 got me thinking about the days way back on the "original" Pitt sports message board -- Frank Sokol's Unauthorized Pitt Sports Message Board.

Stay out of Tucson.Or Tucson
Brian was certainly different, but I would not classify him as the biggest douche. Sure, teh grammar and spelling of his posts was marginal 😉, but you have to give him credit for his passion towards Pitt football. I wish we had 67,000 other fans like him with butts in their seats when the team takes the field. I suspect the constant attacks by other posters drove him away, which is a shame.Speaking of douches, the biggest douche by far that I remember was "brian," who had such a high opinion of himself that he later changed his handle to "brian01." Okay, I'll amend may earlier post to say he was the biggest passionate Pitt douche on he board. Never a shame to see the biggest douche driven from the board, even if he is passionate.Brian was certainly different, but I would not classify him as the biggest douche.
