Rudolph benched for da "Duck"

Had to do it, season pretty much over if the lose today. Best pass protection all day on the TD as well.

Duck doesn't have much of an arm but at least he tries to go downfield. Rudolph playing like a coward doesn't give you a chance. He had to be benched.

I don’t know if Duck will ever be good enough but he does seem to have something you can’t quantify or measure. And he’s pretty poised.

Or maybe I’m just in that trap of the next guy can’t be any worse. Haha. But he just carries himself with poise especially for someone so young and coming from a lower level program.

He has a gunslinger and nothing to lose attitude and just looks like a positive guy. It's contagious and that is what you're picking up on IMO.

In Rudolph’s defense, Hodges’ TD pass probably had the best pass protection by the line all game. But I like what he’s shown so far. Has a swagger to him.

Very deflating to let them come right back and tie it up. Made it look pretty easy as well.

In my best SMF voice I'm going to say the Duck is contagious. It might not last more than a few games but he's got the special sauce to get this team of practice squad players going. Ride that wave. Rudolph can't motivate anyone right now.

After that first series now Hodges looks skittish in the pocket also. OL not very good today.

The OL has been not very good all year.

The one thing that I do not quite understand is why the Steelers picked Edmunds so high. They have a very good 1-3 round draft record over time, especially 1st round, but he just seems like a run stuffer at times and nothing else. Better than Davis, but still lacking for such a high pick.

That was horrible, no problem rolling him out but you gotta just take the sack if it’s not there.

Really bad execution there

Boyd had the fumble that changed the game ... he made two nice catches but I would bet that he would say that his game was subpar today.

Now if we could get Pitt coaches to see the light and see what our other QB's can do. Pickett has looked a lot like Rudolph as of late and it is time to see what else we have because Pickett isn't getting us where we need to go. We will continue to be average until we find a good QB. Pickett is not that person.

He stinks think Tommy Boy Maddox. a jobber.

Duck Hodges is out there to play, leaving nothing on the field when he's done, he has no idea when his career will be over so its 150% every outing, which can get an athlete a lot of miles.

He's out there to play, hes not afraid to make a mistake because he knows everyone makes mistakes just make a good play on the next opportunity.

If football doesn't work out he goes Duck Hunting and sells Duck Calls.

He probably didn't expect to be here in the first place so he's playing with House Money!

Athletes like this tend to be coaches favorites.

The Steelers WR's drop the ball as much as Pitt's WR's do and that is obviously not good.

And the OL has been shaky at best.

In saying that, Rudolph is terrible. He is simply not a good NFL qb. I was dead wrong on him. I thought he would be a good QB in the NFL but he is clearly not good.

But Duck Hodges is also not the answer. He is no better and besides one throw yesterday, he was just as bad.

Everyone should run to their local Dick’s sporting goods store and buy a duck call whistle, especially if you’re going to Heinz Field on Sunday. Can you imagine duck calls every time the Steelers are on offense?

Lol...
A secondary use for your Duck Caller is to blow it into your phone when telemarketers call.
I do that now. They hate it.

They have headsets on so if you blow it loud it really makes their day!

Watching yesterday, I was questioning Rudolph's arm? His passes where lollipops, high arcing and soft. Duck seemed to put more zip on the ball. That said, neither has a future as an NFL starter IMO.

neither arm looks that good but i just don't like Rudolph in the pocket.. he's got no sense of pressure, literal pressure. you are in there and the pocket collapses, it's time to do something brother. my man just sits there and watches the walls and ceiling cave in around him and he just watches..

Reviving this thread because it was just announced that The Duck will be starting against Cleveland.

The reason they are not playing Rudolph is pretty much why they don't have Kaep starting. You have to be a tier 1 athlete to play with the controversy cloud over your head. Rudolph has not been separating himself from the backup QB and his presence starting would be a major distraction for the Cleveland game. If not for the helmet incident he would be starting. Coaches don't like distractions

After the touchdown pass Hodges was 3 - 9 for 28 yards. If that's the answer I'm afraid to hear what the question was.
When Hodges came into the game, I said he will get the ball out quick after spreading the field and complete short passes. He fooled them with the bomb.

After that, I thought we would go back to the short game, For some reason we didn't. How can we throw 13 passes to Samuels one game and don't throw to the backs hardly at all after that game?

With the play selection we used, Duck was holding the ball as long as Rudolph. Duck did notice an underneath double coverage and threw the ball into the ground. Rudolph may have tried to muscle it in and thrown an interception.

Wut?

This is a revenge game. If Rudolph remotely approached a competent QB, he would absolutely be out there. He's maybe the first QB in NFL history who was on pace for almost 470 attempts and under 3,000 yards. His AY/A is 5.5. That's behiind Joe Flacco, Mariota, and Andy Dalton.

Rudolph is terrible. Worst QB that I can remember who started at least half a season for the Steelers. He's Mitch Trubitsky level bad without the contract.

I'm not 100% certain that he will even be on the team next year.

But the Steelers are DUMB, they will try to force him out there to prove they where right.

Honestly, the Steelers are dumb. I'm sort of relieved I live in the timeline where I can watch Lamar Jackson thrive and not be pigeonholed by Randy Fichtner.

You sound a lot like Ron Cook. Three or four games ago he talked about him turning a corner. Today, his career is over.

Pickett gets the exact same treatment.

People judge these guys like the only factor in their performance is them alone. It is not.

Also one good game or two does not make you great. A bad game or two does not mean you stink.
