Rudolph benched for da "Duck"

You sound a lot like Ron Cook. Three or four games ago he talked about him turning a corner. Today, his career is over.

Pickett gets the exact same treatment.

People judge these guys like the only factor in their performance is them alone. It is not.

Also one good game or two does not make you great. A bad game or two does not mean you stink.

I've never said Rudolph turned a corner or even had a great game. I believed in him pre-draft and thought he had potential, but his film pretty quickly reveals that he doesn't.

He'll never be a good NFL starter because he lacks QB fundamentals at the pro level. Lacks pre-snap awareness, does not process reads quickly, does not read field, lacks accuracy. There's just no amount of talent that you could put him around that could fix those issues.

Yes, the Steelers OL is average, they don't really have a running game, and a lot of their key players are hurt (Mason did have Conner and JuJu for multiple starts). That happens every year and good QBs find a way to carry on or at least look competent. But when I see Mason Rudolph ignore a DE matched up on a WR or miss JuJu streaking down the seam wide open on a Cover 0 play, I can live with my assessment.

Cook said he turned the corner.

Honestly, the Steelers are dumb. I'm sort of relieved I live in the timeline where I can watch Lamar Jackson thrive and not be pigeonholed by Randy Fichtner.
Are you a Ravens fan? I'm a fan of specific teams, more than athletes or sports. Like I don't care about watching teams I don't root for very often.

So go argue with him.
I made clear the turned the corner comment was made by Cook. I said you seem to have a similar mindset in regard to Rudolph.

I did not call the show because I understand how sports talk works. They let you get a sentence out, disparage what you said and then move to converse with each other. There is no good reason to be used like that.

I know at least a good portion of this board is better than that.

What about this play gives you confidence?

4th and 1. Wide open WR on a drag. Literally no defender within 5 yards and Rudolph not only doesn't see it but almost throws an INT to a defensive lineman!

If it's unfair to judge someone on 1 sample play. Let's look at his season stats. What about ANY/A ranking 31st in the NFL gives you confidence? Or being 32nd in QBR? Or throwing for 72 fewer yards per game than 6th round pick Gardner Minshew? or 60 fewer than UDFA Kyle Allen (with fewer TDs and more INTs)?

I'm a Steelers fan who went from super intensely following them from about 1991 to 2015 and then gradually drifting away as I got busier in life. They're still my favorite team, I just don't live and die by them.

As I've gotten older, I've grown to appreciate greatness even if it hurts my team. So I've enjoyed watching people like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson just for sheer love of their talent. And while I always rooted against the Ravens, I never despised them just because they're our rivals.

Wut?

This is a revenge game. If Rudolph remotely approached a competent QB, he would absolutely be out there. He's maybe the first QB in NFL history who was on pace for almost 470 attempts and under 3,000 yards. His AY/A is 5.5. That's behiind Joe Flacco, Mariota, and Andy Dalton.

Rudolph is terrible. Worst QB that I can remember who started at least half a season for the Steelers. He's Mitch Trubitsky level bad without the contract.

I'm not 100% certain that he will even be on the team next year.

Distractions affect team play. He really doesn't offer a significant advantage at this time. Football is all about momentum and Duck is leaning forward while Rudolph has all this pressure from his recent poor play and the Cleveland fiasco. If The Steelers start Rudolph and he sucks then he now has the whole Stiller nation clamoring for the backup. If Duck sucks then they can put him back in and move along. If Duck doesn't suck then his career is over as a Stiller

I think it's simpler; both are bad. Duck looked slightly better more recently. Go with him.

Rudolph is a liability. He would have a chance to stay on if not for the Cleveland game. Tier 2 and 3 players do not get any wiggle room when they are a distraction to the team. Life is not fair especially when making a business decision

I’ve been fairly intensely following the Steelers since around 04 now and I hope I get the same way eventually. Have definitely expressed some jealousy towards my Ravens fan gf (I mean come on though, Harbaugh was getting stale until he changed QBs last year and now he’s a genius again).

I'm totally team centric, I pretty much ONLY watch Steelers games, "good matchups" mean nothing to me, and why I'd watch Pitt vs. Delaware over Clemson vs. Bama if they where on at the same time. So I'm actually hoping something derails Jackson soon, since him being good hurts my team. I guess I'm tribal and old school.

Nice move by Tomlin, Rudolph has stunk lately.

the strongest arm isn’t always the best qb. Duck doesn’t have much of an arm. It’s kinda like patti and Pickett. One may look better in practice and one may get things done on the field

I think it just happens with life. You get a bit older and have a relationship/marriage/house that take you away from watching 8 hours of football on the weekend.

I moved out of the area and decided to pay for the NBA/NHL packages rather than Sunday ticket. It's easier to fall out of love when you don't watch every game.

Be happy for your gf. Wouldn't you rather have something good happen for her than some spoiled Patriots fans?

That's the classic way to do it. I guess I see the Ravens as the Caps and the Bengals as the Flyers. I dislike but respect the former. I loathe and despise the latter. Steelers players have kind of famously said that the Ravens always hit hard but within the bounds of the game. The Bengals (and now the Browns I guess) were frequently accused of going over the line.

I'll probably root against the Browns sooner than the Ravens just because they seem like such ***holes. Woofing all preseason and then going 5-6? The boo-hoo act over Myles Garret? Embarrassing.
