Here’s one more thing to consider: Coach Tomlin said that they’re going to bring in competition for Pickett this offseason. Who are some realistic options? A few thoughts:

Trade
- Most likely option would be Justin Fields, assuming the Bears select Caleb Williams first overall. I’ve seen where we could likely get him for two Day 2 picks, which I think is about right.
- Kyler Murray is too expensive and might not even be available. Meanwhile, someone like Mac Jones is definitely available, but why would we want to take on another quarterback project when we already have one? Not sure he can recapture his 2021 form, so I wouldn’t want him.

Draft
- They almost certainly won’t draft a QB in the first round, so likely options are on Day Two with JJ McCarthy, Michael Pratt, or even someone like Michael Penix/Bo Nix if they fall out of the first round.

Free Agency
- By far the most realistic option would be Russell Wilson, assuming he’d take a team-friendly deal with the money he’ll get from Denver. The question is would he be willing to join a team with an incumbent starter still on the roster?
- Two more realistic options might be Gardner Minshew, who started in place of Anthony Richardson, and Ryan Tannehill, who got benched by Will Levis halfway through the season. Both of them would likely be willing to come in without assurances of a starting job. I actually wouldn’t mind Minshew because, IMO, he has a much higher ceiling than Tannehill.
- I don’t think they’ll make a move for Kirk Cousins and, while I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing in Baker Mayfield, but he’ll likely get a long-term deal with Tampa.

I’d trade for Justin Fields, draft Michael Penix (I like Jayden Daniels but don’t think he’ll be available), or sign Russell Wilson.

Strengths: OLB, Minkah, kicker
Weaknesses: QB, OL, WR, RB, ILB, DBs, punter
I’m not sure I’d call the running backs a weakness considering they just had one 1,000-yard rusher and another one who nearly eclipsed 800 yards. Warren/Harris is the strength of this offense until Harris’ contract expires.

Fields is as much of a project as Picket is. No thanks

Of that list Minshew is the most likely option that may be available. Keep in mind though the price may be steep. Solid backups are more important today than ever with the rate at which qbs get injured

Nix will go in the first. Penix stinks. I wouldn’t waste a pic on him. McCarthy is a kid who I think will not be in the top rounds. He could be an interesting option in the draft

There is no QB help in the draft for the Steelers. Nothing immediate. You have to tank or trade your way into that pick. If you end up with a high pick, it would be suicidal to not get another "can't miss" OL-man. It's also going to be expensive to trade for a QB. Way to expensive for what you can get. Free agency is a nice thought but there isn't going to be much available and what is available doesn't exactly wow you. They're in the situation they're in for at least another year but there aren't many immediate and impactful solutions.

Robert Horry has more titles than Michael Jordan. The titles argument is null and void
It's not null and void when you're pointing to similar stats to compare players. You could also add other things into your comparison like rushing yards, rushing TDs, 4th quarter comebacks, wins, playoff wins, but we all know why you didn't.

Roethlisberger was clearly better, and there isn't much of an argument.

QB is a different story in that comparison. It's pretty rare that a QB can be ass and win a Super Bowl. There are usually extenuating factors when that happens like a really good defense or a dominating running game. There's a reason QB's are the MVP more often than not. Joe Flacco was even an MVP of a Super Bowl because he showed up and carried them despite having the Ravens vaunted defense giving up 31 points.

Agree. I don’t know all the qbs but on occasion you can get lucky and grab a guy in the mid to late rounds who is at least decent to great (Brady Purdy). But yea the odds are low

I think you either try to resign Rudy or Get a Minshew

The priority has to be another OL maybe a TE. (I’d convert the Georgia TE to tackle ) and Linebacker and Db help

I don't know what the Steelers will do at QB but it's probably not going to be overwhelming. Regardless of what the Yinzer masses think, they have invested too much in to Pickett to just give up on him with two more years on his rookie deal. A guy who thinks he can be a starter won't be interested in that situation and the drama around it. They don't really have the cap space to make a big splash.

Frankly, if they don't get an OC that can utilize the talent they have or at least have an idea how to help that talent with free agency and the draft, there really isn't hope for any QB. The other big issue I see is that they need a solid veteran presence on that offense. I'd get someone for the WR room that could mentor some of these guys about how to be pros. You could probably do that cheaply enough.

Agree with most of this. Only area I’d debate is like all investments you don’t throw good money after bad. If you don’t think KP is a guy you can win with you cut your losses. I think if they were serous about winning they’d sign cousins make him the starter and let KP learn a bit more.

However I think the situation in Minnesota is better than the Steelers so I don’t think they have a snowballs chance of signing him

On the Wr front it appears Tyler Boyd may want to come here. I think he fits what you’re talking about

Stats say otherwise

Stats say Ben was the far better QB when the game was on the line, and in the playoffs. You know, those game situations when stats actually mean something.
They also say Ben’s poor play put the Steelers in a position to have to come from behind late in games.

As for the playoffs they say no such thing after 2010

Not sure a guy that old coming off of an Achilles is much use. That's really the problem. There isn't a guy that you could invest in if KP isn't the guy and benching KP doesn't do much more than kick the can down the road when they're really just running out of time on his rookie deal.
