Just listened to a good interview with Jamie on the Doug Gottlieb show. I am attaching a link. Some good stuff.

Jamie said that they looked at going to Gonzaga to play the cancelled game, but there was no way to fit it in.

So we can all apologize to SMF for thinking and saying that it was just another one of his far-fetched deep thoughts.

Here's the link. Enjoy.

He said that back in November too, but some people apparently weren't paying attention.

By late December, the idea had been 100% complete forgotten. SMF was trying to think of ways to fit the game in during the final week of the season and there was absolutely no way that was going to happen.

Right, because they determined pretty quickly that there just was not going to be a good date that they could make it happen. In fact that was a regular part of SMF's original ideas, because he said that even though Pitt and Gonzaga said that the couldn't come up with a good date he felt that there were several that would have worked just fine. He was wrong, but the fact that the schools said they couldn't come up with a date was always a part of his narrative.

I posted 4-5 dates they could have played. None were totally ideal but could have worked. They also could have played that last Saturday if the situation was right.

Clearly, the 2 teams could have played if they REALLY wanted to but there was not a perfect date and neither team needed the extra chance after their wins.

As it turns out, I am glad we didnt play because if we lost to Gonzaga, we probably dont make the NCAA Tournament but I continue to believe that had we lost to Syracuse, we should have flown out to Spokane on Friday morning for a Saturday night game.
