So Bell is interviewing at Oklahoma?

The Washington State QB is a stud!

I'd see if that coach wants to come east. Hes the real deal.

It's so difficult to determine what is attributable to an assistant coach vs the talent when guys are this early in their tenures. Do the OL and WR coaches suck, or is it the players? Manalac looked awful at first, because all we had to go by was what we saw on the field.

There’s a very slight chance he takes a high paying DC position similar to what Chip Kelly did, but doubtful.

If you resign does the 6 million he gets go away?

I just can't see someone who won't get anywhere near that amount again walking away.

They'd have to pull my body out of my office if I was make 6 bills to be a football coach

Our best coach on defense is the LB coach, and I don't think it's even that close. The same guy many of us weren't happy with when he was hired.

If they have to promote anyone, promote him. I don't want loyalty promotions.
Good point

Yes, that game was unacceptable. And I actually thought the manner in which we lost to SMU and Louisville was unacceptable, so fair enough.

SMU, for instance, is better than us... but not enough for the score to look like it did.
Holstein really struggled against SMU. Defensively, I thought Pitt took some bad angles and just gave up way too many explosive plays. I think a big reason for that is that we just haven't seen speed like that. That's something that you can't simulate. However, there were times the tackling was just shit.

The first possession compounded by Holstein's injury killed morale. Human nature is what it is and that tends to take wind out of the sails. ...then after a really nice goal line stand, we turn the ball right back over deep in our own territory. Really, you can only fight through shit like that so much.

The UVA game is the worst. Pitt had zero business losing that game.

Zero chance he resigns unless they come to an agreement on a settlement, which is going to be pretty high. Because as you say, who is just going to walk away from $30m?

Is he just burned out with NIL?
I think so. Narduzzi has been oft quoted that he dislikes the whole aspect of recruiting in the day and age where the final decisions by the top/ most talented recruits are made by how much money they'll get to play in college. I am pretty sure that Duzz was more OK when the $ was given "under the table", but now it is so obvious that the 4 and 5 star players are going to the schools that have the cash/donors

They moved much faster at the start of the Ville game than they were with Yarnell. Nate takes the clock under 10 every single time.
It was night and day difference.

Bell stated in one of his early pressers that Eli had played so a lot more & had so much more game experience in HS that it really showed in how they operate the offense. I'm paraphrasing there & Kade had a more diplomatic way of saying it, but you get the point.

Honestly, there are a shit load of similarities between Pat Narduzzi and Tony Bennett.
I wish. At least Bennett won a National Championship. If Pat had won a NC, I would give him a lot more rope to turn this thing around. However, he hasn’t even been close.

Narduzzi said that Nate did not take any snaps in practice all week. That may have had something to do with it. In fact, how can you have your backup qb not take any snaps all week, given that the starter was coming off an injury and had missed the previous game?

I think Nate was pretty banged up after the Clemson loss. He got sacked, what, 8 times? As Pitt (Narduzzi) never lets on with complete transparency the extent or any detail of his player's injuries, we fans have just got to guess. Which is what my first sentence is ... a guess

It’s a 1-2 combo between NIL and the Transfer Portal that is a free for all with no guard rails. Coaching isn’t the same as it used to be when Narduzzi started a long time ago.

Yeah, Jackson Brown almost singlehandedly got him killed. How many sacks did that dude give up? And I was told on the board that he played well after that game, lol.

You know, it's kind of funny as I think back to the Youngstown State game - when Duzz wore a short sleeved white shirt and royal blue tie in honor of his dad. He may have coached the best game of the year that afternoon. Granted, it was against the Penguins, but he looked more the part of a HC and seemed even more involved in the play-by-play of the game. Maybe he should dress like his dad more often?

PN is from the old generation of coaches. He may be one of the youngest of that old generation, but in fit and finish he's a guy from yesteryear. He has more in common with the Sherill/Paterno generation than the Sark/Riley/Day guys. Those old-school kind of guys not only aren't going to thrive in the new world of college football, but they are going to actively detest it. Hell, I actively detest it. That said, they owe him a ton of money, and as dumb as I think he is sometimes he's not walking away from that. I would imagine that at some point they will negotiate a settlement and he'll retire. And he and everyone else will breathe a sigh of relief.

The problem is, once he goes, Pitt just becomes a stopping point for guys that are hopefully on the way up. That is inevitable.

Pitt has always been a stopping point. Remember Majors and Sherill? And what's interesting is that both of them would comment later that they wished they had stayed at Pitt.

$ is the proverbial root of all evil. At least Duzz has guaranteed that unless he resigns, he will have a pretty nice nest egg for retirement

I don’t think money is the root of all evil, but the love of it is the root of all kinds of evil.

And you are right, Duzz can walk away today and live a wonderful life. Well, unless he has some hidden gambling problem.

too early to tell, but the recent trend hasn't been good. Play fast has been replaced by run to the line quick and then stare at the sideline for 15 seconds before running the play. I think he deserves another year to try and get things right.

And may I remind you that you were also down on Matt Canada here, calling him a "scrap-heap" hire.
And where is Matt Canada coaching ?
He had 1 good seasons at Pitt with a loaded team , and has continued to suck elsewhere

It's amazing how all these coaches do all these wonderful things when they have great talent, but suck when they don't have it. It's almost like talent is the most important thing.

Well he had plenty of talent at LSU and got canned after a season .
He’s just a guy that shouldn’t be an OC at a bigger program .
He’s a small school oc at best and a position coach .

Hate to interrupt this troll attempt but has anyone confirmed he’s “interviewing” for the OU OC job?

There were reports on message boards in October that he was on “hot” lists for coordinators but there’s nothing that I can find now that he’s even under consideration for an OC job

And yet Mediocre Mike tabbed him to be his OC. Lol

Buddy, the fact that you can't find something doesn't make it a troll job. My expectations for you are always low (like, you have no idea how low), but you didn't exactly have to go to the dark web for this one.

Wouldn't have guessed they'd be interested, but I think this kind of shows his hand when it comes to loyalty.
Venables is a dead man walking. That Bama win against another dead man walking—DeBoer— might have bought him another minute, but not much more than that.

If OU was smart they’d bring Lincoln back and pay him a truckload.

I don't love everything about his coaching, but I think it's fair to say Narduzzi is one of the coaches that actually loves the game and loves coaching. Not saying most D1 head coaches don't also love the game, but many love their egos and bank accounts first and of course love the power of being the big man in charge.

Narduzzi is a multi-millionaire already, I don't think adding a few more million is what motivates him to keep coaching. With his X&Os smarts and big mouth, he could make millions as studio analyst with much less stress.
He’d be a disaster in the studio. His mouth is big, but not to be confused with well spoken. a lot of gibberish and nonsense comes out of it when he gets going.

I don't think there are too many dead men walking this year. General consensus seems to be that schools are waiting to figure out the details on how much they'll be on the hook for when it comes to this settlement + what the new pay for play salary cap model might look like. There will always be exceptions, but I don't think schools are as eager to eat these massive buyouts right now.

One thing he doesn't do is gamble. We can all see that.

Yeah but his compensation isn’t the same as it was when he started coaching a long time ago either. At age 58 he’s not walking away from a cushy job that pays 7 mill a year because he’s frustrated with NIL and recruiting. That’s laughable. incredible to me that anyone could think that could even happen. He won’t leave until he’s pushed out or kicked out, and unless his full buyout is honored he’ll file suit the next day if that happens.

To borrow from a Pittsburgh legend, Dooz may be dumb, but he ain’t stupid.

Lincoln isn't going to win in the SEC. He's done nothing but suck at USC.

If those guys are dead men walking, what about Kelly, Napier, Freeze, Heupel, Pittman, and Elko?

Those fan bases are all pissed.
