So Bell is interviewing at Oklahoma?

Lincoln isn't going to win in the SEC. He's done nothing but suck at USC.

If those guys are dead men walking, what about Kelly, Napier, Freeze, Heupel, Pittman, and Elko?

Those fan bases are all pissed.

Yep. Lincoln wants no part of SEC football.

The grind.
The recruiting.

It’s just not him.

It's amazing how all these coaches do all these wonderful things when they have great talent, but suck when they don't have it. It's almost like talent is the most important thing.
Yeah geez if only he’d have had a little bit of talent to work with at LSU…..only about 9 future NFL players and a couple of all-pros in his offensive 2 deep there.

Come on bro. You gotta do better than that.

I thought we were only talking about Venables, not the whole coaching hot seat list.

I wish. At least Bennett won a National Championship. If Pat had won a NC, I would give him a lot more rope to turn this thing around. However, he hasn’t even been close.
Football is such an exclusive sport. There are only about 15 schools that can legitimately compete for a National Championship in football. Pitt isn't one, and tbh, they are way on down the list. He did win an ACC Championship and have the program at it's 40 year high mark.

Not really comparing accomplishments but the way they operate. Both are relationship guys as opposed to transactional. Both take pride in being a developmental program. Both are 100% totally married to their defensive system. ...no team anywhere is completely locked in every night, but for the most part, you can count on both Bennett & Duzz teams coming to fight, even though it may be really ugly at times. They both recruit players that represent their university well. Duzz totally has Bennett beat when it comes to dropping F bombs. He wins that one hands down.

There's not even 15. Maybe 7-8.

I could see Bell getting interesting around college football based on some of the flashes this offense showed. First, it's tough to come in and fully install your offense in year one, especially when you are completely changing what Pitt previously did under Cignetti. Factor in injuries along the offensive line and then at QB along with receivers dropping balls on what could've been big plays and the offense will take a hit.

With a few years and personnel to match the scheme, Bell's offense can fully execute at Pitt. Hopefully he'll stick around long enough for us to see it.

Danny Etling & Myles Brennan at QB. That wasn't exactly one of LSU's most talented teams on that side of the ball. Justin Jefferson was literally a nobody 2-star recruit & barely saw the field as a true freshman when Canada was there.

I think the expanded playoffs combined with portal and NIL opens it up a little more than in the recent past. I think you can win a Natty at the following schools...

ACC: Miami, Clemson, FSU
Big 10: tOSU, Michigan, USC, Oregon, Washington, PSU
SEC: Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Auburn, Tennessee

Notre Dame

I don't see it at Ole Miss. Ole Miss really went all in this year with NIL. Supposedly, they made a commitment to fund it as part of the deal to sign Kiffin to a long term deal, as he was using the Auburn job as leverage. If they continued to make that kind of commitment every year, I guess I would list them too. I just don't see that happening.

Then we are drastically overpaying for Pat

Wouldn't have guessed they'd be interested, but I think this kind of shows his hand when it comes to loyalty.

When you have a season like Narduzzi had at a school that hasn't enjoyed that kind of success in a while, you get rewarded in a big way. One year is all it takes to lock up that golden parachute contract. I agree that it's stupid and irrational, but it's not just a Pitt thing. That's an industry standard.

13 future draft picks on that offense 2 deep including 4 RBs. So loaded a sophomore named Leonard Fournette was buried on the bench. 5 future NFL receivers including DJ Chark (22 YPC) and a young Jefferson. A NFL TE. 3 future NFL Ols.

And, notably, they had a disappointing 9 win season and canned Canada.

If someone ever assembled that level of roster at Pitt they’d build a statue of him. Not since Sherrill has Pitt ever had anything close to that on one roster.

Try again.

You got the wrong team. Fournette played for the Jags in 2017. Canada was at Pitt in 2016, so Matt would have been at LSU in 2017.

The one year of wining a very bad conference since we got to play WF instead of Clemson or FSU ?

Napier should be coach of the year and Florida should be in top 25. Wins over LSU, Miss, UCF. Losses to #3 Texas, #6 Georgia, @#7 Tenn in OT, #8 Miami and #20 Texas A&M. If they beat FSU and win a bowl to get to 8-5 with that schedule, it is a crazing coaching job.

You know, it's kind of funny as I think back to the Youngstown State game - when Duzz wore a short sleeved white shirt and royal blue tie in honor of his dad. He may have coached the best game of the year that afternoon. Granted, it was against the Penguins, but he looked more the part of a HC and seemed even more involved in the play-by-play of the game. Maybe he should dress like his dad more often?
Jackie Sherrill wore the sport coat in honor of Bear Bryant. Worked pretty well for him....

There’s a very slight chance he takes a high paying DC position similar to what Chip Kelly did, but doubtful.
Or might take a DC job in the NFL just like Haley did from Boston College to the Packers.
Duzz deep down doesn't like NIL and the Transfer Portal. And what college athletics has become. He is old school.

Is Bell on this list of "Need Better assistants"?
I know we need better players to run his system and injuries have hampered progress. People around the program were perplexed why we weren't running a power I in shorter yardage situations. Bell maybe looking elsewhere since he sees the writing on the wall. The lack of preparation, execution for these last several games is troubling. H2P

Hafley had 2 years and 8 mil (4py) and got 3 million from the packers.

Narduzzi is owed 30 million 5 years and I highly doubt he gets an nfl coordinator job in the nfl paying close to that

Pitt has always been a stopping point. Remember Majors and Sherill? And what's interesting is that both of them would comment later that they wished they had stayed at Pitt.

$ is the proverbial root of all evil. At least Duzz has guaranteed that unless he resigns, he will have a pretty nice nest egg for retirement
Sherrill never wanted to leave.

That's a pretty spot on list.

I think SMU may be able to sneak their way on there. Not just because they are good this year and kicked out butt. But because they have big $$$ available and an institutional commitment to be good/great (and being in Texas helps too). If college football stays a NIL free agency sport, they have a chance.

I'm not saying the belong on the list now, but I won't be shocked if they win 10 games per season in several times in the coming years, which gets you in position to make a Clemson-like jump. At minimum, I think they will be a new version of VA Tech in the core Beemer years - regularly win 9-10 games and come up short on winning anything meaningful.

Sherrill never wanted to leave.
True. He was forced out by an arrogant admin that thought anyone could take over and be as successful. Sherrill leaving started the 2nd Great Fall of Pitt Football and it hasn’t been the same since. 43 years of heartbreaking mediocrity has been the result.

No coach likes it but being a P4 college football coach is still one of the best jobs and smallest, most exclusive clubs in the entire world. You think he’d rather work for a living and have real problems than coach college football, make 7 mill/year and deal with the hassle of NIL? Gimme a break.

This weird Lair narrative that Dooz is so “old school” and principled that he’d give all that up voluntarily is just laughable.

Of course, the reason we got to play WF instead of Clemson is because we beat Clemson.
Well true
But also because they also lost to ncsu in their own division .
Clemson beat WF but WF won the tie breaker

I’m glad we got wake - but let’s not pretend we made it happen .
It’s also why the acc did away with divisions

If Clemson beats Pitt they are playing in the championship game. It's as simple as that, so yeah we absolutely made it happen.

Nobody is walking away from a huge pile of money. It doesn't matter if they're old school or new school.

He's only leaving one way, and that's with a big fat check.

So Tony Bennett is unique in the world of P4 sports.

And then doubled down on stupid and promoted him. Lol
No doubt .
As noted - his Peter principle cap is position coach .

But at least it’s only sports - unlike something important to elevate woefully unqualified people into power

Similarly if wf lost to bc Clemson is in
