Lost tonight, 3-0.

Good news, bad news. The bad news, Pitt got one hit and no walks. Good news, perhaps, Dani Drogemuller pitched pretty well. Only gave up four hits, and two of them were in the bottom of the 6th. Unfortunately for her, one of those hits was a home run by FSU's number 8 hitter, and it came in an inning that she walked two batters. Which was more than enough on this night.

Dani is pitching better than any pitcher we have ever had. The problem is that we are still going to lose a lot in the ACC.

She made basically one mistake against the 3rd ranked team in the country. If she can keep pitching like that she's going to give Pitt a chance in a lot of games.

But on the other hand, one hit and zero walks don't give you much of a chance against anyone.

Beat fsu today, 7-5
Interesting coaching strategies today. FSU brought back their ace, who pitched a complete game 1 hitter Friday. Too soon and probably too early in the season for that. She only went 2 innings. Brought in their #2 pitcher, who started yesterday. Again probably too soon.

We had 0 runs and 3 hits off the two of them in first two games (12 innings because were mercy ruled in game 2). Today, 7 runs including three 2-run homers. I would have thought their coach would have been looking for an effective third starter but instead she was focused on a league sweep and it cost them.

Drogenmiller pitched a complete game despite giving up 5 runs. She also pitched a complete game Friday. Her arm might fall off at this rate. You see pitchers going every other game or even every game in the tournaments (JMU last year), but not often this early in the season.

Four of the five runs were unearned.

Although in looking at the box score it appears that it should have been at least two earned run and the FSU scorer doesn't know what makes a run earned or not. Which seems to be an issue in college softball and baseball in general.

It is not written up well in the description, but I think we had the fielders choice from SS to C, but the throw was bad. That would have been the 2nd out and then they got the next batter out, so only one earned.

I'm talking about the run in the 5th. According to the box score description, runner on first, two outs. Runner steals second, catcher's throw goes into the outfield allowing the runner to go to third. Batter hits a double that scores the run, and according to the box score that was an unearned run. And that is simply not correct.

The only way that could be correct would be if the error on the throw would have gotten the runner out at second. And if that is the case then the runner didn't steal second and advance to third on the error as the box score reads. In that case the runner was caught stealing but was safe at second and advanced to third on the error. And it would be really, really unusual for any scorer to score a play like that that way.

Yes, you are correct about that one.
